EA dev outs Dead Space 2 News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

11 May, 2009

EA technical director Patik Patel may have unwittingly confirmed the existence of a Dead Space sequel.

His LinkedIn profile lists "Dead Space 2/Project ETA", according to Superannuation. This could be Dead Space: Extraction for Wii, although the "ETA" timeframe suggests not. No other details are offered.

This is hardly surprising, as silver-haired EA boss John Riccitiello has talked about Dead Space as "a long-term big winner for us" before. The original survival-horror FPS was also a critical hit for EA, and carries a Eurogamer reader average rating of 8.6 out of 10.

Dead Space: Extraction arrives on Wii this autumn and is shaping up well. Head over to our Dead Space: Extraction preview to find out more.

This is hardly surprising like it says in the article. Wont be out until late 2010. Probably later.

Great game, so I'm glad it's getting a sequel. EG's review of the original really doesn't do it justice.

i can't remember much about egs review but when i played it i had very good first impressions but then found myself a bit bored after a few chapters and things quickly felt a bit samey. maybe i should have gave it more of a chance but it grabbed me then lost me.

I hope this is a sign that they're willing to go out on a limb for titles that didn't sell as well as they should have.
If they don't make a Mirror's Edge 2, I'll cry.

You play Issac in FPS while he is having an out of body experience.

Left4Dead is keeping me from playing this at the moment. I love the relentless mowing down of zombies, waiting for the tank attack and finale fury... can't beat it.

I just pray they don't change it up too much from the first one. All that was actually missing from no.1 was better missions and removal of that empty upgrade node nonsense. The core gameplay was pretty near perfect.

Pleased to hear this, Dead Space was probably my favourite game of 2008. More of the same & i'll be a happy lad.

@Eraysor

100% Agree there! I nearly missed out on Dead Space thanks to the EGs review. Played the whole game in 2 sittings and was riveted throughout :)

Thankfully EG readers have more sense! I hope that this turns out to actually be a sequel and not the wii game as mentioned in the article.

If so, SOLD!

I only played DS this year when I was playing catch up with last years games i missed. Bloody hell, I should have given that game my full 60 bucks instead of Gears 2, waaaaay more interesting.

The main reason I bought the game was because all the comments threads here were positive about it, so I want to return the favour!

Dead Space is indeed a great game, came out of blue for me and this edged RE5 in survival horror stake, and also for being more inventive. However that said, I still loved RE5 game and had spend hours on it in the co op mode.

Drag it a bit closer to System Shock 2!

Get one-time perks at some terminals like Pack Rat (more storage slots) or cheaper ammo or stronger melee!

Make containers that you can't open hackable, or introduce a system that will open containers based on either a tool which you purchase upgrades for or is disposeable and you collect like ammo (eg 5 takes up an inventory slot).

Collect pieces of enemies and bring them to an analysis lab to improve or invent weapons to deal with particular enemies (some processing time required before weapon is ready)!

More of the ghosts!

makes me laugh on the focus been on the 8.6 reader rating rather than the 7/10 review given...

Dont get me wrong i think this website is ace and i am on here most days but that review was WAY off the mark....

Dead Space was a solid 8/10 game, but it's not nearly as much fun to play thru multiple times as RE 4 was.

Dead Space actually made me cry with joy that EA had finally made a fucking awesome game on their own.

Go Riccitello! Sic it to the whiny bitches with DS2!

I LOVED deadspace one, but I doubt deadspace 2 will come even close. I bet they'll go all EA style and recycle the original for 50% , and put a tacky other 50% on it.

Feck.

BTW Deadspace was the best game I've played in a very long time. I'd give it a 10//10 without a doubt.

I've just got half way through DS on my first play through. Like others, I bought it because of the good word of mouth on here. So far it's got immensely high production values but the core game is a little 'meh' for me.

Some guy stands in his control room telling me to go and do all th dangerous work, baddies jump out of vents, spooky voices whisper... It was atmospheric for the first few missions, but I'm on mission 5 now and it's turning into a solid but uninspired third person action title. I'm hoping that it's going to pick up pace in the second half.

For my money, the only games that have terrified me from beginning to end were the Project Zero (Fatal Frame) series. Scary as hell. DS has brilliant presentation, but the core mechanics are too limited in their range at the moment.

This makes me sound like I'm not enjoying it - I am, but it's a 7 or 8 out of ten for me.
