EA details Wii Boogie

Date, tracklist, peripheral.

EA has confirmed that Wii sing-along Boogie will come with its own karaoke microphone when it's released in Europe on 31st August.

The publisher also released a full tracklist for the game, which will include hits from The Jackson 5, Britney Spears, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kool & The Gang.

Boogie is billed as the Wii's answer to the incredibly popular Sony hit, SingStar - a karaoke game that lets you belt out your favourite songs and scores you on how well you perform.

However, EA is attempting to take things a step further with Boogie, by using the motion-sensing abilities of the console to track your movements so you can dance along, too.

"This is a breakthrough game with a landmark soundtrack," said Steve Schnur, big cheese of music at EA. "We've brought together generations of the biggest hits in pop music history for a game that takes Wii innovation to a whole new level. Boogie is truly the ultimate family fun experience."

The full tracklist can be found below. It looks pretty good to us.

Is this the game where you wave the Wiimote around randomly, and that's about it?

Nope it comes with a microphone. Not quite sure how you hold the wiimote, nunchuck and the microphone at the same time though...

    Kung Fu Fighting FTW!!!!!
    :o)

Edit: I reckon the mike plugs into the bottom of the wiimote, not sure how the nunchuk connects as well though. Maybe you just do flourishes with the mike between verses.....

    Stop. Hammer time!

    :)

Those are all popular pop songs and you must admit that, even if they aren't to your taste, they are, well, popular, and will get people interested in the game singing. Not sure if I can pull off Kung Fu fighting as well in front of the Wii as in my shower though. ;)

What the f*ck? I thought the Wii was supposed to be a kids/family console? Then what the hell is with this exposure to the early musical forays of one Michael Jackson? It's even worse than putting his own solo work on the soundtrack. Here he's young and relatively normal looking, while hanging out with other young people. Surely this will lull children into a false sense of security around the man?

    Love Shack!??!!?!

    Awesome :-)

    - Don't Cha - Pussycat Dolls / Busta Rhymes

...will unfortunately mean the girlfriend boycotting this.

    - Stars - Simply Red

...will unfortunately mean me boycotting this.

Good list, apart from that though.

It's a full on Mic, not an attachment that sticks in the end of the 'mote. They have released pics of it but I can't be arsed to find them.
  • varsas #14 5 years ago

How does that work if you need both hands for the wiimote and nunchuk? The new trailer on EGTV doesn't show it being used?
  • simiankid #15 5 years ago

Err, maybe I'm being thick here, but I'd say that the microphone plugs into the 'mote in place of the nunchuck. Given a decent length cable I can't see dancing and singing at the same time being much of a problem.

Then again, I can't sing or dance.

    Kung Fu Fighting AND Y.M.C.A?

Might be getting this despite all the not-to-my-taste songs in that case :p

I bought a black US motorcycle police officers outfit a few years back so I could fit in with my friends who frequented Old Compton Street in Soho; now my dream has come true, as I'll be able to perform YMCA using the Wii-mote and Nunchuk wearing my leathers.
  • Rirekon #18 5 years ago

I'm still waiting for one of these to include a Weird Al Yankovic track...
  • charliemouse #19 5 years ago

Doesn't the ninchuck moake the top half of the body move and the remote make the bottom half move?

Meaning you need to hang on to both, unless they stick accelerometers in the mic?

Maybe a lapel mic or on a string 'round your neck? It could have a plug-through so you plug the mic into the remote and the nunchuck into the mic?

The list seems rather uninspired in comparison to SingStar on the PS3 but I'm still looking forward to Boogie anyway.
  • Alastair #21 5 years ago

I did a cracking redition of Kung Fu Fighting while on a business trip to Tokyo earlier this year to a round of polite applause...... presumably for doing high kicks in time with the 'HUURRGHH!'s and 'HAAAAA!!'s

    There was Funky Billy Chiiiin
    And Little Sammy Chong
He said 'Here comes the Big Boss'
    HUURRGHH! HAAAAA!
    Let's get it oo-on!
