I just wanne thank EG for being THE best site regarding E3 reporting. Amazing a European website does it better than all the US based ones. Real time updates, streaming movies and no "the real next gen" bollocks this time ;) VERY good job guys.. you have regained my respect 100% ;)

Seconded, I've already forgetten the coverage last year, I dont think there will be a repeat of the mass complaints they had last year.

    Good job guys! \0/
  • kangarootoo 6 years ago ago

Christ, stroppy thread for a moment there. I've not read hardly any of it, so all I am really here to add is the Halo3 movie was all game engine, not pre-rendered.

    @Stickman
I just came from the Sony thread. I see a theme developing, and I'm chuckling :) I'll lock the fire doors and disable the sprinkler system.

    @admir
I bet you are fat really, fatty.
  • Stickman 6 years ago ago

I heard MS said all you guys were fags.

    >"What the fuck happened to the Japanese games?"

Nobody cares about japanesse games.....except for japanesse.

And I need to put the sonytard, admir, in my ignore list.
  • T4RG4 6 years ago ago

This is the last one I've just watched after being unimpressed with Sony and Ninty. I think they did a little better (games and support) but still not very impressive. Same old games, same old mechanics, slightly better graphics.
  • Dizzy 6 years ago ago

    >admir's funny. in a pathetic sort of way.

He can be funny as much as he wants together with those other 'fat fucks' in my ignore bin... plenty of them around to keep him company.

    Slightly back on topic...

I just wanne thank EG for being THE best site regarding E3 reporting. Amazing a European website does it better than all the US based ones. Real time updates, streaming movies and no "the real next gen" bollocks this time ;) VERY good job guys.. you have regained my respect 100% ;)

Combined with Live this was just amazing to read and see all those things almost in real time (except when the Halo 3 movie hit, the internet went bananas). I am not at E3 but you guys have made me feel like I am there ;)

    Gratz again!
  • Moogrose 6 years ago ago

admir's funny. in a pathetic sort of way.

I thought the conference did what its supposed to do, introduce the up and coming, get people excited about the machine - if it didn't then its not the machine for you. simple as.

"looking at the post counts across the 3 conference reports that's my guess for sales in the UK (unfortunately). silly brits..."

You're using the comment count to predict future sales of consoles and we're the silly ones? Okaaaaaaaay...
  • Calgon 6 years ago ago

Another good conference :D, not quite as slick as Nintendos as far as presentation goes(they had a good venue there in that Kodak theatre too) I'll admit but again... unlike Sony's borefest it was interesting, the games looked fun and also the graphics are looking awesome on some of them titles now. It actually has me more psyched about the console than I was before, Ninty and MS must be rubbing their hands now after the beating they just put down on Sony, with smiles on their faces, as they think of the market share they're gonna snatch away from them... Lets hope so \0/

No new games announced? well lots of roumers got out before E3 about the likes of Halo3, Fable2, Forza2 and Shadowrun. Fact stands they had a far stronger and interesting line up of games in my eyes and a good idea of where they are heading too which is just as important. They've got their shit together at the end of the day, they know what they've got to do to continue the success and improve upon what theyve got right or not so right and they are in a good position to do it(more importantly unlike sony's flood of BS I actually beleive them too).

MS I'll be having one of your 360s please \0/

  • Latin 6 years ago ago

I will happily admit that i'm a Halo fanboy, and i nearly came my pants, the music was the best part especially the part when it's about to explode into that classic Halo battle music but then teases you like... well like a Halo fanboy wanting any piece of information he/she can get..
  • admir 6 years ago ago

why was the MS Conference best? they didn't show any new games at all and they where talking one and the same shit just like sony(sony at least showed 1 new game) and nitendo ( take a look at the gamecube) warhawk i liked that demo i really wanna get my hands on it
  • sport 6 years ago ago

MS's conference was probably the most intriguing and exciting. The games look great, Live looks like it's gonna really explode, and I especially like the way MS is allowing those talented independent "basement" studios the chance to get to millions of gamers. I still wanna play on the Wii the most, but the MS conf was the best IMO
  • Carrybagma 6 years ago ago

Oh I dunno - reading through the text, the sheer number of (decent) games coming on for the 360 sounded fine.

It read like a good conference, considering how little was expected of it.
  • snick 6 years ago ago

really? if so damn thats cool because it look amazing. 2007... thats some time away still though.
  • Yossarian 6 years ago ago

not pre-rendered, uses game assets/technologies, recorded from a 360, independently verified at the show
  • snick 6 years ago ago

bollox to prerendered halo 3 trailer.... i'm getting test drive demo. MMORG... sweeet
  • otto 6 years ago ago

Oh what a surprise, murder sims in slightly higher detail. /falls over in narcoleptic fit
  • IronGiant 6 years ago ago

Bit of a meh all round really.. Sony presentation was crap, MS was only slightly better with no real surprises.
  • Blerk 6 years ago ago

Nice coup on Alan Wake. Otherwise.... yaaaaaaaaaaawn.

What the fuck happened to the Japanese games?
  • Calgon 6 years ago ago

Watching the Conference on Gamespot now :D
  • Kiigan 6 years ago ago

I personally thought the Halo 3 teaser was pretty weak, but overall the MS press conference was really strong. A very decent collection of titles on the way.
  • fluff_the_tiger 6 years ago ago

yep had a check this is straight from the leaked script:

'The Master Chief looks down at the what was once New Mombasa,
and he sees that the desert sand is shifting, as though the
ship is causing the ground to open up.

EXT. NEW MOMBASA, OUTSIDE THE SHIP

The ship begins to move slowly downward and as it gets closer
to the ground, the sand below begins to churn and open up.
Within seconds a hole forms. Some transparent energy appears
to be digging a hole into the ground.

EXT. THE PERILOUS ADYTUM, VERANDA ALCOVE

The Master Chief peers down the edge of the ship at the sheer
drop and the odd exchange that is occurring on the ground. '

Shit I hope it's not the same as the script cos then I'll know the story already! D'oh
    Hopefully it's a Bungie ploy ...

  • KD 6 years ago ago

"New Live Arcade titles: Pac-Man, Contra, Frogger, Galaga, Sonic the Hedgehog, Defender, Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting, Time Pilot, Ultra Mortal Kombat 3, Scramble."

Paperboy was a nice surprise but wheres my god damn Worms with xbox live support! :)
  • yorkiebar 6 years ago ago

I think the Halo fanboys melted the internet. It took me nearly two hours to download! TWO HOURS for about 20 seconds of the Masterchief.... still, it was so SWEEEEET!!!!

Can we fast forward to 2007 now, please?
  • Merefield 6 years ago ago

The greatest thing about GTA 4 on Next Gen is that the PC port will hopefully finally get decent high quality texturing!!
  • fluff_the_tiger 6 years ago ago

Has anyone read the leaked Halo 3 script that was floating around the net? Bungie said it was an obvious fake. Why then, does the trailer show a scene that seems very similar to climax of the script ?

    Great Graphics BTW
  • drumbaby 6 years ago ago

    So Halo 3 was 'it'?

    Oh...
  • Fairlane 6 years ago ago

    i love it
  • Merefield 6 years ago ago

Yeah, the ajax worked really well on Firefox.

Blumin Safari refused to play ball for whatever reason ...
  • Dizzy 6 years ago ago

That is how you have a E3 conference. Every trailer immediatly online on Live was great. The EG blow-by-blow website was also great (Ajax guys? Nicely done! :)

Sony got totally trashed by MS and Nintendo and E3 hasn't even begon :) The real next gen? Try Halo 3...
  • Shinji 6 years ago ago

Merefield: Yes, the way it works is that Tom sits in the conference with his fingers blazing away, and then I receive the stuff he's writing (back at our hotel room in LA) and post it to the Livetext system, which is being carefully overseen and tweaked by our awesome tech guys Mark, Chris and Nick back in the UK. International news reporting! :D

We did broadly the same thing at GDC but it was much more jury-rigged (and in that instance it was me in the conference and Tom at home in London). We're getting a lot better at this stuff, and in future we hope to cover all major conferences and keynotes in this way - as well as the standard news coverage, Eurogamer TV, podcasts... Whew :)

    >"Some nice looking games, but where were the surprises? Beyond GTA being available on 360 from day one, there was nothing we weren't expecting here. Not a bad conference, just not exciting in any way."

    No shenmue III. :-(

I guess the series really is dead.

    /tears builds up.
    /seriously.
  • The-Bodybuilder 6 years ago ago

    >"dude i am not a fucking fanboy for all i care ms, sony, and nitendo can go to hell but mostly nitendo and what was great about the ms conference anyway oh sorry halo 3 halo is fucking overrated"

Do you know how to spot a fanboy? By making an open comment like "spot the sony fanboy" and then waiting for the person to identify themselves as the fanboy (even if the sentence wasn't aimed at them).
  • morriss 6 years ago ago

How can anyone say it wasn't eciting if you haven't even seen it. According to Tom, some of the games looked brilliant. And brilliant looking games = excitement.

Stupid commenting on something you haven't actually witnessed yet, no?
  • admir 6 years ago ago

you see ms conference was weak not the only one
  • tengu 6 years ago ago

Some nice looking games, but where were the surprises? Beyond GTA being available on 360 from day one, there was nothing we weren't expecting here. Not a bad conference, just not exciting in any way.

  • prettyboytim 6 years ago ago

The trailer looked quite nice, but it didn't excite me like previous trailers have. I think I need to see some action! I'm looking forward to seeing the whole Nintendo and Microsoft keynotes tomorrow. It's difficult to judge from just the text descriptions which one has come out best...
  • Tonka 6 years ago ago

Good show. None of that lifestyle malarky. Just games. Well done MS.
  • admir 6 years ago ago

dude i am not a fucking fanboy for all i care ms, sony, and nitendo can go to hell but mostly nitendo and what was great about the ms conference anyway oh sorry halo 3 halo is fucking overrated

wow !!! Halo 3 trailers looks amazing !
  • polar 6 years ago ago

Good trailer. Nowhere near as good as the Halo 2 teaser though.
  • The-Bodybuilder 6 years ago ago

    Spot the bitter sony fanboys,

Well done MS and ninty, I applaud. You both did well. Here, take a cookie.

As for you, sony? As they say, you reap what you sow. All the lies last year had caught up to you, and you have underwhelmed us all (except for fanboys like admir).

    Poor sony...
  • admir 6 years ago ago

but it was a weak conference
  • Batfink 6 years ago ago

Yeah, it's got the really epic Halo feel :)
    Looks like Cortana's getting stranger...
    *plays it again*
    I'm such a fanboy.
  • Yossarian 6 years ago ago

the trailer is great, very epic, great music, great teaser

hardly detailed in-game footage, but apparently made entirely with real assets and running on a 360. they had it independently verified too. ;)
  • Calgon 6 years ago ago

    Cheers Batfink matey :D
*does him self a rolley before watching*
  • Yossarian 6 years ago ago

"Ah ah admir spot the sore looser. Sony got arse raped by Nintendo and MS in the same day, deal with it! ;)"

the thing is they ACTUALLY did. I can't believe it, Microsoft showed up at one of these events for once.
  • polar 6 years ago ago

  • Calgon 6 years ago ago

Is there anywhere to watch this conference yet? Doesnt Xbox.com usually show it too?
  • TwistidChimp 6 years ago ago

    Yup from bungie's site..

"We won't ruin the content of our short presentation by describing it frame by frame, but we will note that everything you're seeing here is being rendered in real-time on the Xbox 360, using the current version of our Halo 3 game engine. The HDR lighting, self-shadowing, GPU-run particle system and many other effects should make it intact (and more) to our final game."

    colour me psyched
  • GitSomE_UK 6 years ago ago

    All in game eh?

    /prices Xbox 360 now
  • TwistidChimp 6 years ago ago

Its all in game running on 360, Bungie have confirmed themselves and say on their site they have proved it to independant observers
  • GuiltySpark 6 years ago ago

Wasnt all the cutscenes in Halo 2 made by the in game engine anyway??

    Like resi 4 does?

Actually that reminds me...Where was Resident Evil 5?
  • chub 6 years ago ago

Halo trailer - very widescreen, but why the big black border? Anyway, it all looks CG to me, but I might be wrong

  • OnlyMe 6 years ago ago

Isn't that a rather dumb question on a forum mainly inhabited by Halo-fans?
  • Yossarian 6 years ago ago

sad this conference has some few replies compared to the others, I think the lack of a live video feed had something to do with it
  • Pob 6 years ago ago

  • symmetry 6 years ago ago

Thank-you and well done EG for some great coverage.

Really looking forward to the proper E3 content now.
  • symmetry 6 years ago ago

GTA 4 can't be a simultaneous release on X360 and PS3 if the PS3 isn't even out by the time it launches. I.E. October. Although, granted, it'll probably slip.
  • GuiltySpark 6 years ago ago

hmmmmmm... Considering that the 360 is already out, there can hardly be any really big surprises because we already know everything about it...

But Microsoft have done an excellent job..
  • Yossarian 6 years ago ago

also, Crysis is coming to Xbox 360 too as far as I am aware, although whether it will look as good as the souped-up PC version I can't tell you
  • Yossarian 6 years ago ago

face it, Microsoft knocked this one out of the park on almost every count
  • Tabasco 6 years ago ago

Well done lads...fingers must be smoking eh? Enjoy a beer anyway *Claps*
  • GitSomE_UK 6 years ago ago

Ninty were the best this year, definatley some interesting inovating stuff displayed, MS just yacked on about live and how great they were. Sony... apart from Heavenly sword and MGS4 didn't do very well.

Well done Nintendo and well done EG for keeping the feed up!
  • dr_faulk 6 years ago ago

lol, halo 3 trailer downloading at 1.1k. Server is so jammed!

I dunno about Nintendo's conference. I'm a bit of a fan boy, but it seemed kinda clunky. I think Red STeel looks incredible, but I wanted some more familiar franchises.

..though its annoying how Microsoft are claiming the PC as their machine...

MS owns the PC, and wants to own our asses.

i know it is a bit of a clich? when talking about microsoft but it does sound like they are trying to take over everything with their xbox, windows, cell phone, fridge all connected plan. i don't really like the idea of having everything all the same and from one super rich company that would have complete power over it all to change things etc.

Be careful, responsible consumers here are labelled as paranoid.

    Still, mighty impressive lineup.

(Forza and Fable from experience, do absolutely nothing for me, the continuing adventures of Sam Fisher...Where'd they put all the fun?)

I'd like to see the Gears of War trailer though, as I don't know that much about what Gears is actually like.

BUT THEN: Good grief, it's GTA!..Well, it surprised me. :o

12:22: "Major announcement about one of greatest franchsies of all time." Says its so exciting that he has to take his shirt off. Shows Halo 2 tatto--GRAND THEFT AUTO IV tatoo on other arm. Grand Theft Auto IV October 16 to Xbox 360 ONLY.

12:25: "Microsoft and Rockstar have entered into an exclusive deal to privide episodic content via Xbox Live Marketplace."

I think it's only the bonus content on live that will be exclusive to 360 in GTA4.

Err you can do that with XP now.
  • Tabasco 6 years ago ago

'Available on 360 "from day one". So presumably it's on the others too. '

    Sounds like GTA ain't...
  • Tiiti 6 years ago ago

Crysis is for Windows Vista, not Xbox 360

I never said it was :p Hence the ?!
  • symmetry 6 years ago ago

No, San Andreas is GTA3: San Andreas.

    This is GTA4!!!!!
  • Helios 6 years ago ago

I'm thinking GTA will be exclusive for a certain amount of time like it has been for PS2. That'll be a system seller, in any case.
  • jonnyquest 6 years ago ago

Crysis is for Windows Vista, not Xbox 360
  • chub 6 years ago ago

    Sounds like Crysis on Windows
  • City Sickness 6 years ago ago

Eh, might I suggest that tattooing GTAIV on yourself is pathetic whether or not it's an exclusive?
  • symmetry 6 years ago ago

And Sony definitely didn't mention it in their doo dar.
  • Tiiti 6 years ago ago

Crysis on 360 as well?!? woohaa
  • Pob 6 years ago ago

    @Only me: Isn't it?
  • TwistidChimp 6 years ago ago

Ah it seems that IGN are going to play it not live the moment it finishes, gamespot might be doing the same thing
  • OnlyMe 6 years ago ago

Isn't it a bit pathetic to tattoo GTAIV on yourself when it's not an exclusive?
  • Syrette 6 years ago ago

Surely if there's a Halo 3 trailer on Marketplace then it's as good as confirmed?
  • Poorandugly 6 years ago ago

It isn't fair teasing with Halo like that. I suppose they wait with it till the end of the show, to end with a bang.
  • Pob 6 years ago ago

Microsoft seem to be doing well so far.
  • Helios 6 years ago ago

    GTA: Bloody hell
  • Lukus 6 years ago ago

    GTA4?? Not exlusive though surely?
  • Tabasco 6 years ago ago

GTA on 360 only? Sony didn't mention it no?

/walks in throws money on table

Halo 3, they won't be able to resist mentioning this it's MS's BFG 9000 to blow Sony and Nintendo away.

Personally after seing the snooze fest that was Sony and the fun that was Ninty I reckon MS will go all out to try to be the best.

/Goes to buy Orange lolly again from the foyer before finding seat.
  • TwistidChimp 6 years ago ago

looking forward to Gears of War and Halo, hopefully Alan Wake if its there, also interested to see if they have any interesting indi stuff coming to Live Arcade.
  • Darren 6 years ago ago

Sony's presentation was a bit underwhelming and dry but Nintendo's was at least pretty entertaining except for Mr. Iwata's speech (ZZZzzzzzz!). Have they saved the best 'til last?
  • Xerx3s 6 years ago ago

But it started off strong. It also restored my faith in ninty. I might just yet buy a rev.

  • Yossarian 6 years ago ago

Nintendo's presentation was great in every respect except actually looking good on screen. I have a window with Red Steel screenshots in one and Crysis screenshots in the other and, uh, well...

but then SEEING IS JUST AN IMPRESSION
  • HoriZon 6 years ago ago

Balls in MS court now, Sony flopped theirs, N so so tbh.
  • symmetry 6 years ago ago

Nintendo was the best presentation so far, lets see what MS can dish up.
  • Xerx3s 6 years ago ago

Well, if the PS3 is the best presentation of this E3, we might as well not bother.

  • morriss 6 years ago ago

  • Razz 6 years ago ago

    Meh! ;)

Our live coverage has now ended. Here's what you missed: Updating...

18:47PM By Mark Kennedy

This is a test. Please ignore!

18:28PM By Rob Fahey

We are live inside Grauman's Chinese, next door to Kodak Theatre where Nintendo just were. MS wins friends early by providing bottled water with every seat. Gulp.

It's filling up nicely, with 360s visible in display cases on the left side of the open area at the front. Due to begin in about five minutes, they say.

18:28PM By Rob Fahey

Gamertags and scores are scrolling around the screen in 3d. Rob Fahey's just scrolled past. "Recreation". Wuss.

[Remind me to tell you all about the way Tom grenades his own teammates in the chest in Counter-Strike sometime. - Rob]

18:28PM By Rob Fahey

Rob's appeared again. It's quite hypnotic. The display that is. Rob's not hypnotic.

Maybe the water's a kind of Temple of Doom plot device. You will write nice things about Xbox and I give you the antidote.

18:34PM By Rob Fahey

I've now seen Rob's gamertag seven times. And Cochise is playing. It's just like England this.

18:35PM By Rob Fahey

They're still filtering in but it's pretty much full now. Should get going soon.

18:39PM By Rob Fahey

"Ladies and gentleman, please take your seats, the show is about to begin." Lights go down.

18:40PM By Rob Fahey

We're off. Gears of War trailer. CG of Emergence Day, when the streets said hello to giant killy things. "Billions dead." "Humans denied their enemy control by destroying their own civilisation."

18:40PM By Rob Fahey

It looks gorgeous. Incredible lighting as muzzle flare lights up street battles. Emergence Day 2006. Trailer ends.

18:41PM By Rob Fahey

It's CliffyB. "Don't act surprised to see me, you knew this was going to happen." We're going to see the first level.

18:42PM By Rob Fahey

(That's Cliff Bleszinsky from Epic Games, by the way. He's the designer on Gears of War, a third person action title. That's what we're looking at now.)

18:42PM By Rob Fahey

Over the shoulder look as the two chars try to break out of military prison. Nice crash zoom on dead bodies as they kick down a door. The level of detail is amazing, with a huge rocket hitting a tower that tumbles down.

Fighting in the rubble, ducking out into a close over-shoulder views to take out enemies up on balconies. Blood gushing like syrup from wounds. Swapping between four weapons, close-combat evisceration.

18:43PM By Rob Fahey

Leaps over block, shoots shotgun round corner. Bit of pausing now and then but generally very smooth. Very fierce, heavy metal gunplay.

18:44PM By Rob Fahey

Chucking a grenade using a blue arc to gauge distance. More hanging bodies. The level of detail on the character model is fantastic. Oops, enemies cutting through door.

18:44PM By Rob Fahey

Watching the cutter. "Get ready." Boom. They rush in, fanning out to different points, instructions shouted by your squad-mate. "Go left." Goes left, more close-zoom syrup-sploshing.

I feel like I'm commentating on a Bruckheimer horror film.

18:46PM By Rob Fahey

We're outside. A chopper's above. "I see three!" The screen shakes as we run - the whole scene feels very oppressive. Very brown and grey with loads of rubble, tatty grass patches.

Fighting close up, chainsaw on underside of gun through enemy chest. Jack Thompson's going to love this.

Cliffy's playing it, by the way. He's down on the side looking quite intense.

18:50PM By Rob Fahey

Demo ends. Applause. Peter Moore's on now. Five million sales of 360 by eight months, he says. Better than iPod, and other consoles.

18:52PM By Rob Fahey

He's talking about how Microsoft's changing gaming. How popular the games have been. Cultural phenomenon. Lifestyle.

"It's a gateway to new worlds of high definition content" he says of the TV stuff. "Today you'll see how only Microsoft can deliver" on high-def, shared gamespace, digital entertainment access.

18:52PM By Rob Fahey

"In the next year, Xbox Live will surpass 6 million members." He clarifies that - he means, by next E3.

18:53PM By Rob Fahey

We're going beyond early adopters, he says. "We hit 57% attach" last week he says. And pays tribute to Live Arcade - "Strikes at the very core of what makes gaming fun." New additions trailer reel.

18:54PM By Rob Fahey

New Live Arcade titles: Pac-Man, Contra, Frogger, Galaga, Sonic the Hedgehog, Defender, Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting, Time Pilot, Ultra Mortal Kombat 3, Scramble.

18:55PM By Rob Fahey

"A major expansion". Logos - Dig-Dug, New Rally-X, Ms Pac-Man. "Doesn't stop there." The arcade portfolio of Konami.

18:55PM By Rob Fahey

Paperboy too. Midway, Namco and Konami shown up. Sonic's "heading up our partnership with my old friends at Sega". Shared heritage, he says.

18:56PM By Rob Fahey

High-def, leaderboards and multiplayer for some of these titles. "We're making sure your misspent youth can stay with you as long as possible."

18:56PM By Rob Fahey

"We're also doing for games what Sundance does for movies." Loads of indie logos going past. Over 100 partnerships, Moore says. "Absolutely vital" for the industry.

"A platform for their titles and a spotlight for creativity." Surprise addition now: Lumines Live.

18:57PM By Rob Fahey

Looks very much like the PSP, but with videos playing in background - Madonna music. [Er, what?! MADONNA? - Incredulous Rob]

18:57PM By Rob Fahey

Warner Music Group partnership will mean exclusive music content, like Madonna, in Lumines Live.

18:58PM By Rob Fahey

"With so many choices, Live Arcade is a key market differentiator." Says the other consoles "don't even come close". For today, "Live Arcade is just the appetiser."

18:58PM By Rob Fahey

Then next wave of 360 games. "Truly next generation games."

18:59PM By Rob Fahey

Trailer reel: Lost Planet (E3 demo excerpts), Table Tennis, Brothers In Arms, Mass Effect (looks very actiony), NHL 2K7

18:59PM By Rob Fahey

F.E.A.R., Too Human (wow, looks kind of like AVP), Viva Pinata, MotoGP '06, Battle for Middle-earth II, Sonic the Hedgehog, Madden...

19:00PM By Rob Fahey

World Series of Poker, Saint's Row (eek framerate, THQ), WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2007, Stranglehold, Enchanted Arms...

19:01PM By Rob Fahey

Test Drive Unlimited, NCAA Football 07, Dead Rising, DDR Universe, Prey, Superman Returns, NBA 2K7, Crackdown...

19:01PM By Rob Fahey

Ninety-Nine Nights, Gears of War again (love that chainsaw noise). Blip. Nothing new in that lot then.

19:02PM By Rob Fahey

"By this holiday we'll have over 160 games to choose from," says Moore. Walks through the exclusives we've just seen.

19:03PM By Rob Fahey

"The only place to play next-gen Madden will be right here on Xbox 360," he says, cryptically. And he mentions Pro Evolution Soccer.

They're still delivering software for first-gen Xbox as well he says. Though mainly it's third parties, in this case.

19:03PM By Rob Fahey

Formal announcement of new game from Lionhead. What CAN this be, eh?

19:04PM By Rob Fahey

"Your story is waiting." A scary looking Burton-esque world, morphing around a weird tree lady. "Choose your fortune."

Fable 2.

19:04PM By Rob Fahey

It's all CG so far by the looks of it, but very nice. Could be in-game. Very cinematic anyway. "Every choice leads to a different destiny."

19:04PM By Rob Fahey

Moore says he's proud to have Molyneux on board. Gestures to him in the crowd. He looks quite merry.

19:05PM By Rob Fahey

"I'd like to show you another quality title produced by MS Game Studios." "We're shifting this into fifth gear." Forza Motorsport 2.

19:06PM By Rob Fahey

Cripes, that looks nice. Cars zooming backward round the track, peeling off down to bare lines. A nice attract sequence. Going forward now, splitting into component car parts in mid-air. It's a bit like a McG Honda advert.

19:07PM By Rob Fahey

Zooming along over the top of cars. Zooming in on wheel arch during a crash. They're trying to emphasise the realism rather than show the actual game, you sense.

19:08PM By Rob Fahey

"Now you can choose from over 300 cars" to tune and paint. Up to 11 other players played against on Live. Available this Christmas.

19:08PM By Rob Fahey

Steering wheel - Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel. Force feedback. People clap. New wireless headset too - looks like a Bluetooth headphone. Xbox Live Vision Camera too.

19:09PM By Rob Fahey

"Look your opponents in the eye in Activision's World Series of Poker." All three peripherals due this holiday season.

He's turning to Japan now. "We're committed to bringing inspired, imaginative content to the Japanese market." Gestures to Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi.

19:10PM By Rob Fahey

Moore welcomes Sakaguchi to Los Angeles, says Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are going to be, well, good you know. Video now.

19:11PM By Rob Fahey

Little stylised man super-deforms his way through the sky in a spaceship, as a big stompy tin-can robot and his minions cross the ground. It's very anime.

Flying towards robot-git. Blue Dragon. That's Mistwalker (as in Sakaguchi's lot) and Artoon (as in the Blinx chaps) developed, of course.

19:11PM By Rob Fahey

"We've got great content coming to the Japanese market and not long to wait." Blue Dragon due this Christmas in Japan.

Mentions Dead or Alive Xtreme 2. "If there's one dev who's realised promise and potential of 360, it's Itagaki-san," he says, referring to the head of Tecmo's Team Ninja and the chap behind Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden. Trailer due this week on Live.

19:12PM By Rob Fahey

Says he won't underestimate the challenges, and will have content by Japanese for Japanese.

Turns to Tom Clancy stuff.

19:12PM By Rob Fahey

Trailer for Splinter Cell: Double Agent. "I used to hunt terrorists. Now I am one."

Shows Sam offing a civilian. "I've become a double agent."

19:13PM By Rob Fahey

Parachutes from the sky, clearly in-game. Lands on a tundra. Seen swimming underwater, pulling a bloke off an icy ledge into the water, leaping out from buried in the snow. Edging over skyscrapers. He's going everywhere. Sam Fisher World Tour 2006.

19:14PM By Rob Fahey

Trailer's over. Splinter Cell: Double Agent due this September on 360, says Moore.

"We're also creating new ." Like Viva Pinata.

19:14PM By Rob Fahey

"We're creating a whole new world kids can jump into any time and anywhere." Jim Veevaert from MS/Rare comes to stage.

19:15PM By Rob Fahey

Talks about what a pinata is. "The hit of the party in more ways than one."

19:15PM By Rob Fahey

Video comes up. "It's about letting your imagination go and transforming a small piece of land". You want to get your land good so pinatas will join you. Worm attracts sparrow, and so on.

19:16PM By Rob Fahey

"Everything can have an impact in terms of the type of pinata you attract." Pistachio the horse looks happy. Live Marketplace will offer items. Trade pinatas over Live, too.

19:16PM By Rob Fahey

You can get accessories through Live. Bear has Mohawk, backpack... All stuff you can get from Live.

19:17PM By Rob Fahey

Helper in the garden can automate processes for inexperienced players.

19:17PM By Rob Fahey

You can tame angry pinatas too. You grow the population doing a romance dance on a little stage. No, seriously.

19:18PM By Rob Fahey

"And just like that, the population can grow." Demo over. Moore comes back.

19:19PM By Rob Fahey

Viva Pinata this holiday, he says. "Proof positive" of plans to move beyond core of fans. Name-checks next-gen Sonic and Lego Star Wars too.

"Now let's take a look at the third essential - surrounding you with the high-def entertainment of your choice."

19:20PM By Rob Fahey

Live Marketplace - "opened the floodgates" to digital distribution. Over 18 million downloads from Marketplace. Over 1000 pieces of content by this evening.

Says Live members and publishers are excited - every publisher has some sort of content, he says. It changes the way people try and buy games, he says.

Mentions Fight Night demo - "In just a few short weeks after the demo went up, pre-orders increased by over five times."

19:20PM By Rob Fahey

Also good for "true episodic content" he says. Third point, "opens new worlds of digital entertainment." Direct line to 18-34 demographic. Music videos, movie trailers, and exclusive content from Paramount, Touchstone, Disney, Epic Records, Lionsgate and Fox.

19:21PM By Rob Fahey

Tonight, first time ever, you can download high-def TV content. Tonight's: "Gears of War: Road to E3". A docu-drama. Starts tonight, finishes next week on MTV.

19:22PM By Rob Fahey

High-definition movies are next. Picks up HD-DVD player. It looks like a smaller 360, with the mechanism on the top.

19:22PM By Rob Fahey

More than 50 by Christmas. The 360 Player due this Christmas. People start to clap.

19:23PM By Rob Fahey

"I think so!" he says when they do. "It'll be a better bargain than anything else in this new entertainment format."

Aha, looks like we're turning to Halo.

19:24PM By Rob Fahey

He's taking his, er, clothes off. Well, jacket. "Yeah yeah yeah" he syas. He shows his Halo 2 tattoo. "You thought it was fake." Oh god. It's not on his chest, surely.

"Some guys do rubber ducks, some guys do tattoos," he jokes. His new one: Grand Theft Auto IV.

Okay, wasn't Halo then. Forgive me eh? But hell. October 16th 2007 in North America, October 19th 2007 Europe. GTAIV. "The first date it's available."

19:25PM By Rob Fahey

Available on 360 "from day one". So presumably it's on the others too. Strategic partnership for exclusive episodic content on Live Marketplace, though.

More clapping. And now he's turning to Windows Vista. "A full blown games renaissance," he promises. New marketing, new graphics, on the most game-friendly OS in Windows history, he says.

19:26PM By Rob Fahey

"Our new brand identity - Games for Windows." Won't be sent to "the land of misfit toys" any longer. Revitalisation "isn't just cosmetic".

Brings out Chris Donahue to show off Crysis.

19:27PM By Rob Fahey

Demo starts inside a burning building of some sort. Flames lick at things all around, a floating squid takes some shrapnel from our man. We're on a ship - you can see out of a hole. Picks a girder up off a bloke on the floor.

19:28PM By Rob Fahey

Moving through dark, burning interiors. Out onto the deck. An enormous, Abyss-esque monster straddles the deck on four huge tentacle-like legs. Its head opens as it attacks.

19:29PM By Rob Fahey

The scale is amazing. It picks up stuff off the deck and hurls it at the bridge, which explodes and crumples. You launch fire at the giant blue squid thing, but it's not helping. The frame-rate's suffering but you can see why - flecks of light illuminate amazing detail.

19:30PM By Rob Fahey

The monster's taking a hammering from our man now, even though he's hiding behind bits and bobs. It doesn't look too happy, creaking on its legs.

It glows really brightly and collapses, then explodes in a ball of blue light. "Abandon ship" they yelp.

Demo ends. Moore returns.

DirectX 10 is the key, says Moore. Another squid of blocks grows out of the screen - erupting with weird alien life. Age of Conan trailer appears from a bubble. Then Flight Sim X.

19:32PM By Rob Fahey

Crysis again. The jungle detail makes Far Cry look like a NES game [Tom's phrase of the week, by the sounds of it!]. I've not seen this close-up before actually - bloody hell it looks nice.

19:33PM By Rob Fahey

"Games for Windows" logo pops up again. Moore claps. "Quite simply, Windows Vista is built to run games." "The single biggest launch in the history of Microsoft - and also a great day for gamers."

Easier installs, more options for family settings, and games accessible right from the start menu.

19:33PM By Rob Fahey

Talks about Oblivion. "Which sold 1.7 million copies in three weeks for both ." Two more joint-release (PC/360) titles coming up.

19:34PM By Rob Fahey

First from FASA. Resurrecting "a truly classic series". A guy gets gunned down, then revived on the spot. "Ancient magic" - "some seek to control it". "Others fight to preserve it."

19:35PM By Rob Fahey

Next game. Resistance types leap from rooftops with special wings. Their enemies return. It's all CG so far, but suggests concepts - translocator style dodging, revival on the spot, summoning. It's Shadowrun.

19:36PM By Rob Fahey

Combines multiplay and techniques never seen before, apparently. Next January on X360 and PC.

19:37PM By Rob Fahey

Next is "one of the biggest hits of last year's E3". Remedy's Alan Wake.

Zooming over hillsides, piano music twinkling. Lighthouse view over glistening sea. Day night cycle accelerates. Alan's monologue is typed over the bottom.

The facial detailer is very impressive. Blair With style standing in a clearing with a torch looking panicked. "Exclusively on Windows and Xbox 360".

19:38PM By Rob Fahey

"This game is a true genre-buster". Psychological action thriller with innovative gameplay, says Moore, who has put his jacket back on.

"When we come to E3, we always try to show you something new." Someone's here "who's not been to E3 before" he says. Aha, Bill Gates.

19:39PM By Rob Fahey

He looks healthy, smiling. "Thank you Peter." "I'm a heavy Xbox 360 user - kind of a PGR3 addict." His family likes Live Arcade, he says.

19:40PM By Rob Fahey

Says 360 is "an incredible foundation". Where from here, he asks. Well, he'll tell too, obviously. "The future of gaming really involves software - better tools, better environments, being user-centric so you can find your friends, and use these games on any of the devices you have."

19:41PM By Rob Fahey

"Building platforms is what we're about," says Gates. Talks about MSN, Hotmail. Assets that will be connected to Live. Seamless for communications and gaming.

"It's also about making gaming attractive to people of every age, driving the industry to a whole new size."

"We're adding 8 new countries" including South Africa, Chile, India, Brazil, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia.

19:42PM By Rob Fahey

"Our biggest challenge was keeping it in stock," he says. "Fortunately now we've got them largely in stock." End of June, somewhere between 5 and 5.5m, he reiterates.

"Before our competition even enters the market, we will have a 10 million unit headstart with Xbox 360," he claims.

19:43PM By Rob Fahey

Live's a huge part he says. 3 million now, 6 by the next E3. Talks about digital distribution and high-def content. I think that may have come up earlier!

19:44PM By Rob Fahey

"What's the most dramatic thing we could do to take Live to the next level?" "This connection to the PC and the Windows Mobile world."

230 million MSN Messenger users, 150 million Windows gamers, he stat-flashes. Keeps his jacket on, mind. "1 billion game ready cellphones" too.

19:44PM By Rob Fahey

"This is a vision of taking Live to the next level - Live Anywhere." "It will actually be part of Windows Vista." A key milestone, he says.

19:45PM By Rob Fahey

One user interface, one identity, one friends list, one message centre, one marketplace. One ring to rule them all.

19:46PM By Rob Fahey

Gates says he thinks critical mass is only inevitable if everything converges across the two platforms.

19:46PM By Rob Fahey

"Windows Mobile is a very interesting element of this." Some phones "equivalent to what a PC would have had 3-4 years ago."

19:47PM By Rob Fahey

Some games will let you continue playing on the phone, he says. Not specific.

"We're going from Live to Live Anywhere, and we really think this is a unique contribution; that Microsoft is probably the only company that can pull this off."

19:48PM By Rob Fahey

Scott Henson comes out to demo Live Anywhere.

19:50PM By Rob Fahey

Talks about how 360 users are used to logging in as soon as games load. Shows this happening when he pops into Shadowrun. Brings up friends list. Whether you're playing Windows Vista, 360 or Mobile, it keeps you up to date on what your friends are doing.

Sends Major Nelson a cross-platform game invite. He's working on his PC now apparently. We see his desktop with integrated friends list.

19:50PM By Rob Fahey

Below it is his Gamercard. "One gamertag no matter what the platform is." Gamerscore through Vista too.

19:52PM By Rob Fahey

You can click View Profile on his Vista invite. The Guide comes up - you can even do achievement comparisons across platforms, whether they're achieved on PC or 360. PC will play against 360. He can play keyboard-mouse on Windows or third-person on 360. Real-time voice chat cross-platform too.

19:53PM By Rob Fahey

Mobile phone now. Shows Motorola Q phone with Windows Mobile. You can see tailor-made Marketplace on Windows Mobile. You can play Zuma - unlocked for your gamertag on 360, PC and Mobile.

19:54PM By Rob Fahey

Forza Motorsport team challenged to "paint on this new canvas". You can send a message to Windows Mobile. Major Nelson's sent him a car to his phone, which he can tweak and save off to Live.

20:06PM By Rob Fahey

Paint shop on Vista, too, changing skins. Bring up editor and do decals.

A quick mock-up - racing on 360, editing on Vista, tweaking on mobile phone.

"Live Anywhere is a big new thrust for us," says Gates. "To close things out," Moore is invited back.

"Live Anywhere is a big new thrust for us," says Gates. "To close things out," Moore is invited back.

Wrapping up. 10m unit headstart, more than 160 games by holiday, 6m Live members by E307, Live Anywhere "unites all gamers".

Surely we're about to get a Halo 3 trailer. Come on Peter, show us your latest ink.

Gates jokes about it. "Probably something we'll recognise."

A windswept plain, arches broken and tattered over the landscape. The Master Chief appears.

He turns. A huge ship - a fleet really - breaks over the horizon, with a giant hole ahead of him in what looks like a ten mile wide crater. Nope, it's some sort of building, arching up. To say it's vast would be... A giant white light. "This is the way the world ends."

Halo 3. "Finish the fight. 2007." And we're out. Can I have lunch now?
