Alternatively upgrade Prologue so that we can at least get an updated taste of what the complete GT5 is like. Perhaps even offer a downloadable upgrade for Prologue so that its the full GT5 for a retail price?

Comments like this make gamers feel completely at odds with Sony, PS3 needs GT5 now! Not after Forza 3 comes out.

Fucking hell, in the time that it took them to make GT5, ms released 3 Forza games if they don't release it soon.

Wtf is a good game worth when you never release it. DNF?

I think Polyphony realise they cannot release GT5 even if it is complete, because it's so far behind the competition that they would be massively embarrased.

Forza 2 showed GT5p what driving is all about, despite assurances that GT5p had evolved. The handling in GT5p was a joke, a remnant from the previous generation of consoles and not even close to the baseline quality necessary to impress anyone that actually knows how cars handle.

Forza 3 has the best handling pedigree and now a graphics engine to boot. There will be no competition at all. The GT dinosaur needs an overhaul that I do not believe Polyphony are capable of delivering.

*cough*bullshit!

All his talk of perfection and detail rings hollow when you consider the many and repeated errors, omissions, and oversights that the GT car databases and UI's have always had. Still, can't fault the car/track modelling and handling, I suppose.

Just get the fucking game out! This is long past stupid.

Got a better suggestion? HL = genre-defining, HL2 = masterpiece, Episodes 1 + 2 = amazing. It hasn't failed to deliver in 12 years.

I wouldn't call Half Life best of all time but it sure is in the upper legaeu and most influential.

All a matter of taste really.

i can think of a 1000 things to say but without damage it isn't perfect as well. Is that going to be in it this time?/

I remember the same thing with GT4, they just didn’t seem to want to release it. Also I’m not really sure why they’re trying rally again as it was never that good before. I think that as long as they finally create good AI, make the arcade physics more enjoyable (not everyone owns a steering wheel) and sort out the stupid tyre noises it should be worth the wait.

Fanboy much?

GT5p betters forza2 very, very easily in the handling department. I personally sunk hundreds of hours into forza2 and have played GT5p since its japanese launch. I have also set them both up side by side and used the same car on the same track. I can say with experience that forza 2 pales next to GT5p's driving model. Forza2 is just too easy, a car like an evo is impossible to spin out. GT5 has it right.

Personally I'd rather wait till the game is done then get it now. I'll take more polish over instant gratification every time.

On this point you are utterly wrong.

GT has arcade handling, pure and simple. combined with lack of any damage modelling and the abysmal AI there is simply no competition.

Back in the day GT was as close to sim as console could get but it hasnt progressed since the PS2 iterations and there really wasnt any competition until Forza appeared.

Forza 2 set the new standard for console sim handling, but has since been bettered by Race Pro. Both make GT look like Mario Kart in comparison.

GT is car porn, end of story. Lush visuals but very light on anything but the vehicle visuals. Great fun after a few pints.

Forza is about the fine detail of handling, tweaking suspension and nailing apexes. The two games are not comparable. Both have their place and both are obviously very popular but they are not in the same category.

I'd rather it's released when there's nothing more to be done except for fractionally incremental updates via download. It's not often that game studios can enjoy the time to polish their product and I'd rather wait another six months than get something that even the developers aren't totally happy with.

Rather that than pull a fucking Bethesda and just release any old shit in a callous attempt at cashing in on the xmas rush, before attempting to paper over the cracks with a patch some time later.

How are these games incomparable? They're both driving/racing simulators of course you can compare them! It's just about personal taste. GT5 takes some getting used to regards the handling but once you master it then it's fantastic fun. I personally like Forza too even though i own a PS3 but each have their own benefits and downfalls.

Let's wait until they're both out then you can compare them properly yes?

It is good after a pint or two though. BTW when did you finally have your first pint farty?

EG taking remarks out of context for a few quick hits, poor form. He said he wants to polish the game to meet his expectations and those of fans of the series, nothing wrong with that - GT fans should know by now this is how Polyphony Digital go about games development. Besides why would Sony want to release two GT games in one year, would distract from the PSP version out in October...

I have owned a track prepared ST185 GT-Four for about 12 years now, doing the build work including 2 full engine rebuilds, and spent a reasonable amount of time on the track with it, so you'll excuse me if I laugh at your little schoolyard jab.

I dont care if people say they prefer one game over the other, that's their pergative. When they question the accuracy of the driving simulation though, that's a factual matter, and I will bring experience to bear on the subject.

here we have a dev which wants to deliver a game as it should be, DONE, instead of shipping a half baked product and then proceed to patch the *blip* outta it.
oh, but this way you can't get a game with bugs and such, and then whine and bitch that they should have taken their time to iron them out rather than try to moneygrab as soon as possible.

So if we take anything farty says as the truth then he has had a "race" car for 12 years so can maybe assume he was at least 17 when he had it so that makes him at least 29 but yet he comes out with the most childish jibes at Sony whenever possible. Something doesn't add up maybe he is annoyed that he narrowly lost out on the Brawn drive this year to Jenson

It's now June, GT5 is already in a release ready state.

GT5's major competition, Forza 3, is due for release in October.

It's been rumoured for some time GT5 will be released in time for Christmas 2009.

All of the above suggest that is exactly what will happen.

Gran Turismo 5 is "at a point we can release it any time we want".

Then why don't you?

Nothing man-made is ever perfect, and you can take ages trying to polish something, but at some point you should be thinking about putting it out there. Of course one should not be going the MS route as well, where you just rush something without any sort of testing/tuning whatsoever, but you can't fine-tune forever too.

Sony are not doing too well financially at present, and their PS3 hasn't had the success they hoped for yet, so I find it hard to believe they are happy to just sit back and say "release it whenever you feel like it". This just sounds like spin - maybe Sony are scared that if people knew it was ages away, they would buy a 360 to play Forza?

Obviously it's in "releasable" shape - they did release it over a year ago in the form of Prologue and that was a damn good game - the handling and graphics were already basically perfect, and the AI was world's apart from previous GT games. Since then they've had a lot of time to put in a ton more content and as the trailer showed there's car damage for at least some of the cars.

So it clearly is in a shape where they 'could' release it, as they clearly have a working bug free game engine already in place and already have for a very long time. It's just a question of how many new features and how much content they want to add before they release it.

Not announcing a set-in-stone release date for GT5 was the biggest mistake Sony could have made at their press briefing. We need to know now whether we will be playing it before or after Christmas, especially with Forza 3 coming in October. I wasn't overly impressed with GT5 Prologue but I have deliberately not played it much as I don't want to ruin the real-deal - I did that with GT4 Prologue and then hardly played the full game when it came out!

Typical PS3 owners response. It looks better so is a better driving game. Do none of you care about gameplay?

Are all PS3 owners decended from Paris Hilton or does the PS3 come with a home lobotomy kit? I can't think of any other way such blatantly shallow braindead people can pervade a demographic so thoroughly.

Well fart, you have certainly got some track experience then. It just seems like your writing smells of a early teen. I have had lots of track time too. Mostly Jap cars in various configurations inc. Pulsar GTiR, Skyline R33 GTR, Evo 6 and a rather clapped out Scooby but have also been round in a couple of mid engine configurations too and appriciate GT's weight transfer feel and like Forza's tyre simulation but neither are perfect but neither are 'arcade racers' either.
