E3: Metroid: Other M unveiled for Wii
"Edgier" collaboration with Team Ninja.
Nintendo US boss Reggie Fils-Aime unveiled Metroid: Other M for Wii during the company's E3 press conference.
Out next year, the game is an "edgier" collaboration with Ninja Gaiden studio Team Ninja, and appears to combine third-person action with first-person shooting.
A trailer showed in-game footage as well as CGI sequences, which featured Samus as well as another lady she appeared to be very chummy with. The game looked slick and well into development, and had a typical Japanese action-game feel to it, with lots going on on-screen.
"This historic collaboration is going to reveal a Metroid game unlike any you've experienced before," he promised. "It will take you deeper into Samus's story and the Metroid universe."

Oh well. Coming from Team Ninja, I expect this game to be properly difficult. Finally.

I had goosebumps during the trailer. To awesome to handle. But will the game pull of the same intensety and not just be a Gaiden clone? Isure hope so!

should be good, but the lack of new ip's is disappointing

I don't like the constant cashing in nintendo tends to do of their IP's either, although it's not a new phenomenon, just one that's become increasingly noticeable as the quality third party support has seemingly dropped away/focused more on other systems.

Is this new Metroid any less of a 'new game idea' than any other new game? An IP (e.g. a fat furry character with a bollocks storyline) does not a new game idea make. A new game idea could use all old characters... eg Smash Bros.
Don't get confused between IP and games. They do not need each other at all. New IP can be used to advertise crisps, old IP can make new games.

/but I can't be arsed copy/pasting it...
As long as they don't mess up the source material, story, timeline and characters, and aren't just rehashes - then there's no real problem with making more games around a particular universe.
It get annoying when the games just aren't relevant, however - as some of the Sonic and Mario stuff has shown.
I'm shocked that there haven't been more games using the GTA engines, that don't focus on violence. There's a massive audience of kids and girls who could be tapped into by taking the GTA engines and making new games in them.
Simpsons Hit & Run is a loose example of what I mean, but the game I'd envision would be much similar to the visual look of GTA, but with its own style and gameplay.

I loved the Prime games but it's nice to see them doing something different with the franchise again.
