E3: KOEI reveals Legends of Troy

Four-player online co-op for PS3/360.

KOEI has unveiled PS3 and Xbox 360 game Warriors: Legends of Troy, which hopes to launch next spring.

It's a tactical action affair with online co-op for four players, both co-operatively and competitively. Sounds a bit like Dynasty Warriors but with a choice of Trojan or Greek forces rather than the Ancient Chinese.

The setting takes inspiration from Homer's epic poem The Iliad, which has been interpreted by many over the years, resulting in lots of wooden horses, muscular thighs and Brad Pitt, who pouts the good pout. We're told to expect plenty of larger-than-life characters and mythical creatures sent down by the gods.

Head over to Eurogamer TV for a scene-setting cinematic.

Ooooh, now this could be good.

I get a historical hard-on for Greek mythology.

I give this article plus points for not saying Dynasty Warriors is set in Japan, and the news it brings is most welcome. How KOEI took so long to do a game with online co-op I have no idea. I look forward to carving through warriors alongside other people :)

This could actually be a good idea if it covers the whole Trojan war.

It would be great to pick which side to play and potentially reverse the course of history.

The Iliad also has a great cast of selectable characters.

Yeah, sounds good to me. As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm just loving the idea of four-player hack and slash co-op. Really don't get why I was playing four player co-op on arcades fifteen years ago but yet it's so sparse now. I suppose I could just be alone in this, but co-op's always been my favourite way to play.

    Also, The Iliad? Brilliant.

Follow the Iliad and associated material (the original finishes with funeral games, not the most dramatic ending) and they've got a sale.

Pull a 'Troy' and / or what Dante's Inferno appears to be shooting for and I'll shake my head sadly and keep on waiting.
