E3: Electronic Arts unveils MMA

Stands for Mixed Martial Arts.

EA Sports boss Peter Moore has unveiled the company's next big sports franchise - MMA.

That stands for Mixed Martial Arts, don't you know. It was announced at EA's E3 press conference, but there was no word on release date or platforms.

Moore did promise "an authentic and broad mixed martial arts experience". He was standing in front of a funky logo and a picture of a man's muscly back, complete with tattoo. "We are more than ready for the fight," said Moore.

Here's hoping we'll get to see a bit more of MMA once E3 proper gets underway.

Oh jeez... I hope they don't mess this up with Urban music influences and shit. Thouhg if they do, we have THQ's UFC 2009 so that's ok.

Would be nice to see a WEC game though.

EA just wait for someone else to make a genre profitable and then they try to steal their market. They've done it for years.

I think EA will have there work cut on on this one! THQ have the UFC license (for how long I don't know) and an amazingly solid base to build from! I'm not a huge fan of the Smackdown games, but based on this years first attempt Yukes Are no mugs when it comes to fighting games!

EA I think may be underestimating the power of the UFC brand, 'MMA' to alot of people just won't mean anything! And unless the game is really outstanding I can quite easily see THQ give EA a spanking for once....

...it's like the beginnings of the yearly Pro Evo & Fifa battles with the boot on the other foot for a change!

Did the picture have a tattoo, or did Peter Moore?

THQ's UFC game is superb. Brilliant in every way, but it only has fighters contracted to the UFC organisation. Obviously.

Could EA's MMA get a deal with Affliction? Now that would get MMA fans excited. Well, me anyway.

this is such good news. now there is real competition in the genre the games will only get better.

Maybe I will finally be able to play with Fedor?

Ok, that came out wrong, but you know what I mean.

Good luck to EA - UFC is the only organisation that actually has it's contracts in a decent form that allow Licencing for fighters to happen - the MMA industry is a mess, as Dana White found out when he bought Pride. As much as people hate Dana White for being an arsehole, the guy did, and still is, bringing in what he learned from the Boxing industry into the MMA arena.

No one else is as organised.
