The terrible one is Gundam: Target in Sight (being released at European launch by Atari)
The good one is Gundam Musou.

Oddly enough it sold less copies in Japan than Ridge Racer 7. AFAIK there are no release dates for either the US or Europe.

I wonder when we find out whether or not Japanese games really do work on a Euro PS3 (assuming you can find a retailer not threatened into submission by Sony Europe).

Lately any game in Japan that has the word Musuo in the title sells quite a bit.

And i think Orochi is another craze in Japan.

And then we have a game that mixes them both called Musuo Orochi. o_O

I would be tempted by this game. Honestly. Seeing as I love both brands.

However, given the recent trend of the Warriors series in this country at least, I wonder if a 360 version will be on the horizon?

We know Taurus loves his Dynasty Warriors (and that he was fifth in his year in Modern History at Oxford- sample question "What happened yesterday?", not that he likes to mention it of course) so it's no surprise when he likes this is it?

I suspect that if you can't tell a Quebley from a Double Zeta, you're probably missing out on 25% extra fun.

I don't understand the appeal of Musou games, I played Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires for the first time on the weekend, tool a while to work out what I was supposed to be doing and then when I did the question sprung to mind, "Is that it?".

Not trying to bait or anything but it really did just seem like endless button mashing.

Hence the disclamer at the end of almost every EG Dynasty/Samurai/Gundam Warriors game, they simply are not for everyone.

TBH the Empires incarnations can feel a bit odd, and battles are definately more samey than the semi-scripted events in the 'regular' incarnations of the games.
Whereas in Empires you can approach every battle with the same tactic of slowly capturing the battlefield base-by base, safe in the knowledge that the enemy won't spring any huge supprises on you, the 'regular' games will have you running back-and-forth across the map responding to supprise attacks on your base or general, and trying to complete secondary objectives as well, which makes things feel more hectic and less repetative.

That said, with the Empires games you have the strategy stuff added on the front-end, which will make battles easier/harder/impossible depending on how you do your planning, though the punishment for screwing up your tactics and development dont really kick in with DW5:E untill some way through a campaign.

Hopefully We'll see Gundam Mousou over here and in English, as the Warriors games seem to have a steady enough fanbase to support Koei bringing every one (including expansion packs) out over here.

Thanks toy_brain, that makes sense. However in the light of that, Empires games are a dull and pointless venture as there is a much more exciting cousin to play with, no?

I thought a Musou game review might elicit a comment from you, toy_brain. :)

Are you going to be buying a PS3 at launch, or have you even (a la the PSP) gone as far as to import one?

"Are you going to be buying a PS3 at launch, or have you even (a la the PSP) gone as far as to import one? "

I just dont have £425 to knock around these days, and I'll be damned If I ever go back to having a credit card debt to pay off, so I'm going to pass on it for now and the forseeable future.
I finally learned my lesson from the DS, PSP and 360 - software support, no matter what console manufacturer, only picks up 6-12 months into its life, so early adoption is almost pointless.
I'm now firmly in the 'hold out for a price-cut' camp. (And also the 'hope Gundam Mousou gets a 360 port' camp - at least for now).

@ruttyboy.
Uhhh, its really not that simple. Personally I'd go for the regular Warriors games over Empires any day, but some reviewers (like the guy at http://www.worthplaying.com ) absolutely swear by Empires and denounce everything else as being completely pointless. What Empires has going for it is that YOU determine your battlefield squad and tactics, and YOU decide where to attack next, so there may be more of a feeling of accomplishment after a sucessfull battle, however those battles never quite have the same level of 'drama' as in the regular DW games. Samurai Warriors 2 can be especially punishing to anyone who fails to keep an eye on the battlefield map or respond to orders in time.

My advise would be to rent regular DW5 or SW2 and give them a whirl, if it still feels pointless dull and repetative then feel free to mark the whole franchise as 'not for me thanks'.

When I eventually get a PS3 I probably will buy the (first) Gundam game, despite the low reviews. It seems they criticized it for slow-as-molasses movement, but hey: You're in huge, heavy lumbering machines - of course they are slow! Plus, all the negative press will make it one of the first PS3 titles to hit the bargain bin.

Why is it Gundam that gets these games made? Plenty of great mech anime out there, but its always bloody Gundam that gets games. Where's the Patlabor, Gasaraki or Bubblegum Crisis games? Swines.

I "accidentally" bought this on the 360 this week, by forgetting to cancel my pre-order.

After being initially rather peeved at this mistake, I actually really like this game, and the DW style of gameplay just seems to make so much more sense with tons of mechs involved.

Found the 360 demo incredibly dull;
Mash-X
Hit-Y
Repeat

The fact that enemies literally stand around waiting for you to hit them is really pathetic, I actually stood in the middle of a big group for a good 5-10 seconds before anyone tried to attack me.

3/10 based on the demo

Just because you don't like the game/genre, doesn't mean that their supposed love for the developer is wrong.

Otherwise that would be like me saying everyone that adores Square Enix is wrong.
