Dyack defends Too Human on forum News

Xbox 360 News by Ellie Gibson

26 June, 2008

Denis Dyack has taken to the Internet to "draw the digital line" under criticism of his forthcoming Xbox 360 game, Too Human.

In a NeoGaf post, he calls on those who are looking forward to Too Human's release - and those who think it will be rubbish - to "stand up and be counted".

"I feel Too Human is a great game, likely to be better than most that will come out this year," Dyack wrote. "I certainly feel it is the best game we have ever made. I also believe the press and gamers alike will believe this."

And if he's wrong, Dyack is willing to accept punishment in the form of an Internet branding iron.

"When the game is released and everyone plays game all the speculation will be over. If I am wrong and gamers in general think the game is "crap" then I am comfortable with getting tagged 'Owned by the GAF'," he stated.

"However, if I am right and it is received well, I would like to see those 'Against' to be tagged with 'Owned by Too Human'."

The post is signed, "Denis Dyack - 'For'".

So will Denis end up taking a knife and fork to his hat while egg drips from his crying face? Why not rush to judge for yourself by taking a look at all the info over on the gamepage.

Too Human is out on 29th August.

He should've just followed Uwe's example and challenged everyone who thinks Too Human will be rubbish to a boxing match.

It's understandable, new IP often struggles to make sales, so making some noises like this, and getting some extra news coverage doesn't do any harm.

Why Neogaf though?
It's the single worst site on the internets and makes our comments section look like the Oxfordshire Gentleman's Cigar and Port Club.

Neogaf is just an anagram for onefag, which accurately describes Evil Lore, and most mods there.

It may well be the best game you've ever made, but considering all of them up to now have been average, that means slightly above average will cut the grade.

Still think it will be sucky.

Ah bless! I suppose he has to say it really but seeing the game footage I think this claim is far to bold. Besides wasn't the reception a bit cold last time Too Human was shown, was it E3 or something?

I must check out this Neogaf site I keep hearing the nutters are loose over there and I could do with a laugh :)

I'll have a port and brandy if your going to the bar old chap.

Getting involved with the community is a great thing. Taking on board comments and suggestions, awesome. Challenging the internet to like his game 'cos it's the greatest' is not a good idea.

That's a bad Dyack... BAD!

eh what! i need a refill over hear by jove. *ponders empty port glass*

I rather get the feeling he may just have owned himself, well unless this game proves to be more popular than wow, and better than elite, more addictive than champ manager and sells more copies than frampton comes alive!

but thats not going to happen.. *sinks back into high backed chair to ponder on pacific ring investments going to the dogs due to bolshovic incursions*

i really dont understand the hate for this game.

By far and away, this game has gotten more hate prior to release than i can remember.

i certainly understand why the guy is pissed off.

i think it looks great, and i hope it turns out to be good!

Fair play to him, i've still got hope this will be a damn good game, not earth shattering but good nonetheless.

Still miffed about the lack of local co-op though.

Yeah it's been baffling me also, I'm really looking forward to this game, and I especially can't wait to be playing this co-op!

Also neogaf is a haven for fanboys, I try and steer clear of that place, full of asshats!

Fair play to him. It's not like he's launched into some ranting tantrum. He's only asking the people who are bagging his game based entirely on third party conjecture not to run away and hide if it turns out (as is extremely likely) to be actually rather good. And he'll do the same if the reverse is true. Fair play.

I also cannot understand the bile that is spewed at this game. They made one mistake, early in development, by showing the game when it wasn't ready. It hardly turns them into the antichrist. EG in particular seem determined to try and twist the knife at every opportunity, even if they have to invent a knife to do so.

I don't know where you went to school, but most people were taught to sign off letters with their names. It is only in this age of sms that such polite forms are lost.

This is kind of weird. It may not read particularly like a tantrum (though it is borderline), I just have to wonder when devs get involved in this sort of thing.

My advice is just work on the game, stop reading the press if it bugs you that much, and ignore the angry minority because you can NEVER fix them.

Seriously, I have to wonder how people get by working in this business then they are so reactive and seem to have such thin skins.

An internet forum post is not a letter. Everybody's name is right next to their post to identify the user. I also find it a bit weird when people sign their posts. Do they also sign each entry they make when using MSN?

Don't get me wrong, the scourge of sms abbreviations and l33t sp33k on the lieracy of the nation bugs the shit out of me, but this is not the same thing.

Sure, it's not normal in a forum post. However, that message is a form of an open letter with a challenge. I reckon it has more authority as is was signed off correctly and not as a throw away forum post, but that's just me.

Cutscenes look good, the story sounds promising and the music is presumably good as well. Gameplay isn't special, even though they somehow think it is. It's almost absurd how limited their skill trees are and yet they go on praising it...

There are countless screenshots, in fact most that depict gameplay, that look very bad. Considering that I put an emphasis on story and music I'll buy it. Nonetheless I am both, for and against it.

As far as I know he has a black belt in some kind of martial art, so I'm out ;)

Nick_JC1- "The fact that they've set the score Too Human must reach to "not be shitty" at 90% on gamerankings shows they are shitting themselves that the game is going to be good. What kinda gamers or owner of a gaming website hopes for a big release game to bomb?, a dumb ass mother fucking fanboy troll, that's who. Dennis has already shown them up and made them all look pathetic."

The absolute truth.

I've no idea whether the game will turn out to be any good, but after Alone in the Dark and Assassin's Creed, I'm going to be a fair bit more cynical whenever a dev claims what the quality of it's game. The footage that I've seen so far of Too Human doesn't make it look anywhere the turd some are suggesting it'll be, but neither does it look AAA. But then I still really hope it's good as it'd be one more quality game to sit back and really enjoy.

If I was Dyack, I'd say if anyone who wants it to be shit and it actually turns out to be pretty decent, they (especially the guy who placed that bet) should all be banned from buying it or even playing it. They wanted it to be shit, so therefore the spiteful cunts shouldn't be allowed to be given the privelege of experiencing it if it is genuinely brilliant.

I'd absolutely love to hear Neko's view on this.
