There's something about D&D that just scream "the 1980s!" to me.

edit: I mean, just look at the screenshot of the man with the melting face (hilarious caption btw). The guy in the left is wearing a headband. So 1980s.

Pity they used the same portrait artist from Puzzle Quest.

Yeah, actually Puzzle Quest is a bit 80s too, graphically.

I love D&D, and I grew up in the eighties...maybe there is something to this theory.

/puts on headband

Ah, that's better.

Oh, and a 4 seems a bit harsh

So glad I sold my PSP or didn't buy a PSP.

Sorry - I just thought I'd get that in before any real morons got the chance.

I was so hoping that this would be good. I love tactics type games - and they arre pretty well suited to handhelds. Oh well - I guess there is always FF Tactics.

Any chance of the original NWN being ported? Certainly a better use of the licence, even if the control system would maybe have to be re-jigged to a more KotOR style of combat.

Yeah, right, like the PSP could handle the Aurora-engine. Good one.
Shame this turned out to be such a mess. But I guess with Jeanne d'Arc and especially FFT around and Disgaea on the horizon, the genre is saturated and there really is no need for another SRPG. Who would've thought that?

Aw but its all nostalgia, like. I reckon Paranoia or Cyberpunk 2020 would be better subjects for a game though :)

(come to think of it, Paranoia would make an ace MMO...different from anything else out there)

Again, 4/10 is defo a tad punishing. The interface isn't nearly the gamebreaker this review suggests it is.

D&D Tactics is hardly intuitive- few D&D games are- but once you get that can-o-worms UI open this is a game which will last you for months (much like Monster Hunter Freedom). The only major let-down is the fixed template multiplayer.

There menu system is not intuative but it isnt 'broken' i've completed the game without any prior D&D experience at all.

The weight limit on items is not that bigger deal either you just can't move as far when encumbered not that much of a problem all you do is give spare weapons etc to a character your not going to use or sell any items you don't need before starting a mission. Then you have an empty inventory and plenty of room to pick up stuff.

As to what is a good item or not just check what they are worth the more money they cost the better they are. Easy really.

Also there was no mention of all the spells and cool summons in the game of which there are loads.
At first it seems like you cant hit a thing and all your attacks miss but as you gain experience and get better weapons and spells you start hitting nearly all the time and therfore don't need to worry what your uderlying 'dice rolls' might be. Just pick a big weapon or spell and your sorted.

The only tricky thing is to work out is armour requirements what you can or can't wear affects what spells and attacks you can do. This is negateable by picking special abilities that let you wear heavy armour or use shields without taking penalties. You get these abilities as you level up each character.

It isn't that borked this game else i would never have completed it its tricky at first but gets easier as your characters progress and you work out the interface its not obvious but the amount of stuff they've packed into a handheld game is more than most RPG titles.

Or Shadowrun. :P

Seriously, though, D&D is middle-weight as systems go, but it's also "open source" and "multi theme" in the sense that the d20 core system is. But Wizards are about to release 4th Edition, so I guess they need to finish all the 3.5ed computer games first.

I also think SJG blew it when they stopped Fallout from using the GURPS system (if memory serves). But water under the bridge and all that.

I can honestly say I don't care if the menu system is a bit shit. All I want is D & D on my PSP which is what this is. I've waited nearly 2 years for this game to be released since I first heard about it.

Once I complete Jeanne D'Arc I will be making a start on this.

this review is a bit too harsh. The menu interface during combat is fine. Outside of combat yea it needs improvement. Id say if you like DandD and already know the basic rules of DandD, you'll be happy to play this game. One complaint I have is that some of the levels are too dang dark to play outside with your PSP. Even playing in a shaded area, some of the levels are too dark. The devs should have thought about that and upped the gamma.
