Duke Nukem D-Day teased on Facebook News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Oli Welsh

1 December, 2009

A solitary screenshot, a Facebook page and the title D-Day have been associated with dormant videogame character Duke Nukem, leading some to speculate that he's due for a return.

Duke Nukem's Facebook page, spotted by Shacknews, was updated last week with the words "Duke Nukem doesn't stay down for long" and then a "D-Day preview pic". The screen shows a black-clad and helmeted gunman, looking nothing like Duke Nukem, shooting at an out-of-focus monster.

That's all we have to go on. There's speculation that this might be a new game, Gearbox's Duke Begins, or even Duke Nukem Forever, which was announced in 1997, but was finally pronounced missing presumed canned when developer 3D Realms floundered earlier this year - amid rumours it was a marketing scam and never intended for release.

Forever is the subject of a legal dispute between the studio and publisher Take-Two, although 3D Realms, true to form, claims it's still operational and working on the game.

Is this latest appearance a genuine rebirth or yet another attempt to spin things out? Who knows. Read our Forever feature from earlier in the year for the lowdown on this tangled saga.

Oh dear, is this going to be the same as last time? I think they should really just let Duke retire this time.

Surely Duke must have finished his bubblegum by now?
Or is it the Wonka everlasting variety?

Duke has to come back. He's like the video-gaming equivalent of snickers.

It definitely looks like the last stage of Duke 3d. Maybe it's just a HD remake like Serious Sam HD?

Um... Isn't that just a random game character and a very VERY blurry version of the alien boss from the football field in DN3D?

Their last evidence and uploaded videos on youtube ( search "Duke nukem Forever gameplay" and youll find impressive stuff ) were temp created animations all scripted through Maya/3ds Max and not game engnie nor anything. This is obviously and unfortunately ot Duke Nukem, unless they are casting him for a new star wars and has been on a diet, who is aiming incorrectly tarwards a picture and NOT a blurry and far out enemy. Check again the picture and correct me if mistaken.

I actualy hope that in another 12 years time we're still hearing rumours about a supposed Duke Nukem game! Its kinda games industry/internet lore now and would feel kinda sad to say its really finaly dead! Long live Duke!! :)

Why we sorely need the Duke:

To bring back FUN in fps single player:

George Brussard twittered about this, so he could be involved.

I'm not sure he'd be advertising someone else's Duke game after what happened to 3DR.

looks pretty fake. just some fan regurgitating stuff.

no one knows who duke nukem is anymore. they'd do better starting with a remake of Duke Nukem 3D; at least then we'd be guaranteed a great, developable game.
