DSi tops hardware charts in the US

Plus: 6 million copies of MW2 shifted.

The DSi was the best-selling games machine in the US last month, according to data released by NPD.

The Wii also did well with 1.26 million units shifted. Xbox 360 sales hit 819,500 while PS3 trailed on 710,400.

Nearly 294,000 PSP units were sold, ahead of the PS2 on 203,100.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the best-selling game. Activision sold 4.2 million copies of the Xbox 360 version while PS3 owners snapped up 1.87 million discs.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has achieved the top spot for first-month sales of any game at the title level," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier. "Halo 3 previously held the spot when it sold 3.3 million units in September '07 in 12 days at retail. MW2 bested Halo 3's daily sales rate by 16 percent in its 19 days at retail in November."

At number three on the chart was New Super Mario Bros. Wii, racking up sales of 1.39 million. The Xbox 360 version of Assassin's Creed II was in fourth while the PS3 game came in eighth.

Left 4 Dead 2, Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus were at five, six and seven, while Dragon Age: Origins for Xbox 360 and Mario Kart Wii rounded out the chart at nine and ten.

There was no sign of Tony Hawk: Ride in the top ten. Only 114,000 copies of the skateboarding title have been shifted since the game launched in the US on 17th November. More than half of those were for the Wii while around 30,000 were for Xbox 360 and 16,000 were for PS3.

Overall hardware revenues stood at $1.05 billion, down more than 13 per cent compared to last year. Software revenues also fell, dropping by 3.1 per cent to hit $1.406 billion. Factor in accessory sales (down 5.5 per cent to $242.2 million) and in total, games revenues fell by 7.6 per cent to reach $2.699 billion.

Massive numbers, up over last years november.

MW2 sold a ton for MS, wonder if FF XIII will sell well for Sony in march.

How many did the DS(i) sell?

    Edit:

"Nintendo sold nearly 1.7 million Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi™ systems in November, eclipsing the previous record of 1.57 million held by Nintendo DS in 2008."

@GoldLightan: I doubt they will be pleased with those PSP numbers.

I'm in a minority on this but MW2 was a huge letdown for me. I simply do not understand it's popularity.
  • GoldLightan #9 2 years ago

I think it's pretty clear that the first couple of weeks of sales are entirely marketing driven. You basically admit yourself to buying it, so the sale is registered, regardless of its quality.
  • GoldLightan #10 2 years ago

@uzivatel: Probably not, although as I understand it, at least those PSP (and PS2) sales made them some profits, unlike the PS3 sales.

Looks like MW2 was a big system seller for 360 (only one with MW2 bundle). Those numbers are amazing... and it probably sold some hardware as well.

Also some really good numbers for L4D. Well deserved... good to see a 100% gameplay game getting the love of the peasants :)

Looks like Reggie will get his day when Mario outsells the PS3 MW2. Outselling the 360 would be virtually impossible with those numbers.

@GoldLightan: I guess, then again it seems like those PSPgos are not flying of the shelves.

Guess Sony sold more worldwide give the 100k gap!!

""Looks like Reggie will get his day when Mario outsells the PS3 MW2. Outselling the 360 would be virtually impossible with those numbers."
Reggie said that it would outsell any version. Mario has already slaughtered the PC version. Should overtake PS3 by Xmas, Should reach the 360 version by March and should outsell the game entirely by Next Xmas. "

Thats because on any normal system there is a good selection of games to play, early 2010 on xbox360 and ps3 is looking amazing
  • NotSoSlim #15 2 years ago

    @farti

Yea that's what I was getting at!! Think with FF next week PS3 may outsell the 360

I do find it funny how Greenberg pipes up now 360 outsold the PS3 but he was silent the last two months!!
  • des #16 2 years ago

Heh,Nintendo outsells everything,360 outsells PS3,360 software is selling like crazy...everything returned to normal
    MW2 360 literally exploded...and those numbers don't include MW2 bundles

Biggest disaster here is PSP,i mean wtf?PS2 almost outsold it and DS sold like it was released yesterday.
  • Beek4257 #17 2 years ago

203.100 PS2 's sold. I've got to let that sink in for a bit.
    ...
203.100?. Really? PS2's? In one month? Who the hell keeps buying those?

Does make stripping the BC from the PS3 seem like a sound choice, business wise that is.

" early introduction of its" not so slim" model "

Guess youve not actually seen one then, because they are pretty slim when compared to the PS3 fat and Xbox.. its not going to be as slim as the PS2 or 1 that quickly.

Also you know the reason to implement the slim was to cut down costs... smaller components, less parts means less cost... or do you think they should try to lose as maximum amount as possible?

And just for Donnie, yes the Xbox beat Sony in the USA (not in Black Friday mind), but worldwide i think it will be the other way around.
  • Sid-Nice #19 2 years ago

What a fantastic achievement by the Xbox 360; only a few hundred units behind the Wii and was released a whole year before the Nintendo console. Could you imagine the Wii sales if the console had decent games and graphics?

I predict that 2010 will be the year of the PS3; by then the general public will understand modern technology.
  • makeamazing #20 2 years ago

@Donnie, your just not getting my point are you? What i am trying to say is any of us can use data and spin it in the favour of a particular console. Xbox outsells PS3 in USA, PS3 outsells Xbox on BF, Xbox this, PS3 that... do you see my point. Stop being a muppet and focussing on one particular thing and waffling on.

also the reason they turned to the "slim" was to breath life into their troubled brand and boost sales(as is shown by its rather "large" size).

LOL your the only person I know who can spin a positive into a negative. So redesigning a console which makes it cheaper, and it sells more is a BAD thing... if there were a EG vote on muppet of the year, you would be in all my top 5 spots.

Also do you know about paragraphs?

I think the "bricking" of a million Xbox consoles for piracy, just before the release of MW2, was a shrewd move by Microsoft. By disabling a large amount of consoles just before the game of year was about to be released Microsoft ensured a receptive market for its console. Clever move.
  • Kapo! #22 2 years ago

Highly unlikely. I know of 3 people who had chipped their 360s, and all 3 went out and bought brand new 360 consoles when theirs were blocked by Microsoft. If only 25% of modded-360 owners did this, then it's still approximately 250,000 people buying a new console. Like I said: clever move by Microsoft.
  • Beek4257 #23 2 years ago

trebell:but yep, next year is always the year of the ps3.

    Heh, clever. Snide, but clever.
