DS Dragon Quest V remake for spring

The Hand of the Heavenly Bride. Steady.

Square Enix plans on releasing Dragon Quest: The Hand of the Heavenly Bride here in spring 2009.

The game, a remake of Dragon Quest V, appears in Europe for the very first time, and is another of the Zenitha Trilogy.

Much has changed since the original 1990s release, so Square Enix will be overhauling the visuals and audio for modern audiences, while stuffing in some Wi-Fi options for players to swap items.

Elsewhere though the revamp will be faithful, and follow a boy hero who uses his father's courage to guide him through his life's adventures.

Dragon Quest V was very popular back in Japan, and is apparently regarded as one of the best iterations in the series - but that was a long time ago.

Still, the Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen remake recently released here was well-received, and was often braver than many an RPG on shop shelves today. Head to our Chapters of the Chosen review to find out more.

The last of the Zenitha Trilogy, Dragon Quest: Realms of Reverie, will be "coming to DS soon", according to the publisher.

We've got some new pictures of Dragon Quest: The Hand of the Heavenly Bride that you might like to look at.

Just finishing off IV at the moment. Really good game. Its in my top 3 on the DS along with Zelda and Phoenix Wright.

Looks like it could be another simultaneous release with the US, as was the case with DQIV. Good work, SE.

Can't wait for this. DQIV was immense, and we've still got VI to come before the main course.

Just played dq5. Even better than 4!

And i doubt they release nr6 before 9 tbh. There has been no talk whatsoever about it for a long time now, and its only ~4 months until 9 is scheduled for release.

Four months until it's released in Japan. There's more than enough time to get VI out here before IX arrives.

DQ IX isn't out in Japan til March(ish), and then I'm sure we'll be treated to a 9+ month wait for an English translation. I fully expect to see the full Zen-thingy trilogy before IX.

Enjoying Chapters of the Chosen just now and excited as I hadn't realised that V and VI were related to IV!

Guys, DQ6 doesnt even have a release date (in japan). I can assure you that it wont be out before dq9, or there would atleast be news about it in the big gaming-mags about now.

And it would also just hurt sales to release them within such a short time frame as we speak of now.

Believe what you want, but in japan dq6 feels really cold atm, and i wouldnt be surprised if it is being released around Fall 2009 (in japan).

Edit: Re-read your posts. Seems like you didnt realize dq6 aint even out in japan yet.

Why do Square always shoehorn awful item-swapping mechanics into their RPG remakes? Some of us don't use Wi-Fi, so we're left at a disadvantage when it comes to obtaining certain items!

FFIII DS was the worst for that. Absolutely zero bonus content unless you went online and took part in some dull letter-swapping nonsense.

This game is epic. Played the rom on pc a few years back and was utterly engrossing and charming as hell(amazing considering the 8-bit graphics didn't hinder player immersion at all).
Please everyone wait and buy the PAL realease of DQV, show we want Dragon Quest here!
Even though we've pretty much had every western square-enix release since FF7 ...
