DS dominates Europe News

DS News by Robert Purchese

6 August, 2007

The Nintendo DS and fiendishly addictive title Pokémon have dominated the charts in both Germany and Spain.

The top three slots for last week look the same across each territory: Pokémon Diamond and Pearl at one and two respectively, followed by More Brain Training at three.

In Germany, the only non-DS titles were Civ: IV expansion Beyond the Sword and Mario Party 8.

Platinum releases of PES 6 and FIFA 07 performed well in Spain, with the chart further broken up by the addition of Wii Play and SingStar Pop Hits bundle.

The top-ten chart for each region can be found below:

Germany

  1. Pokémon Diamond (DS)
  2. Pokémon Pearl (DS)
  3. More Brain Training (DS)
  4. Brain Training (DS)
  5. Pony Friends (DS)
  6. Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword (PC)
  7. The Settlers (DS)
  8. Mario Party 8 (Wii)
  9. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (DS)
  10. Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)

Spain:

  1. Pokémon Diamond(DS)
  2. Pokémon Pearl (DS)
  3. More Brain Training (DS)
  4. Big Brain Academy (Wii)
  5. Pro Evolution Soccer 6 Platinum (PS2)
  6. Brain Training (DS)
  7. Wii Play (Wii)
  8. Pro Evolution Soccer 6 Platinum (PSP)
  9. SingStar Pop Hits bundle (PS2)
  10. FIFA 07

Check back on Eurogamer tomorrow for the UK top ten.

DS should release a game where you have to wake up at 5am and race to put your towel on a deck chair, just for the Germans.

@ Cannibal

what a original and witty observation of the German people, I for one would like to see a game in which they danced in leather trousers and ate sausages

Is Spain a huge video game market? I am hearing more and more about the Spanish charts although I never knew that it was a huge market in the first place.

It might not use the stylus that much but it does use the wifi and the microphone. 2/3 isn't bad imho!

I don't know why the DS is so successful in Germany, it's probably the only system where you don't kill Germans. I thought they liked that. Go figure.

Settlers is out? Is that just in Germany?

Looks like some pretty negative reviews on amazon.de. Unfortunately, my knowledge of German only extends to asking for more beer, so I don't know what exactly they're complaining about.

They could also release a UK verison where you have to make appointments with your dentist and brush your teeth several times a day.
