Dragon's Lair heading to DSiWare? News

DS News by Tom Bramwell

14 October, 2009

Super-old laserdisc adventure Dragon's Lair may be about to make a long-overdue appearance on DS, according to details on the German ratings board website.

Curiously, the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle site lists the game for DSi, suggesting it might be heading to DSiWare and not retail. (Thanks GamerBytes.)

It's not the first we've heard of Dragon's Lair for DS, incidentally - it was originally announced in mid-2007 for release later that year, while an equally non-existent PSP version was mooted a few months later.

The original Dragon's Lair was a mixture of at-the-time-amazing animated sequences and intermittent player actions, and is considered by most to be the granddaddy of quick-time events.

Not that it's really stood the test of time. Check out our creaky Dragon's Lair 3D: Special Edition review to see how a relatively recent revamp ended up.

Is there anyone who has fond memories of Dragon's Lair and would happily pay good money to play it again?
My memories are of putting a few 10p's in the machine and then dying a few seconds later for no apparent or fair reason.
There are many arcade games that bring back happy memories, but DL is not one of them.

The only Dragon's Lair I ever played was the platformer on my NES, and that was SOLID. Fun, but utterly unforgiving. I've never played this quick-time adventure one.

The great thing about the arcade was all the different death animations. Which you got to see a lot of. I believe some of the home console versions took those out and replaced them with a generic animation, and that sucked a lot of the fun out of the game. Plus the loading screens. Perhaps the dsiware version will be a faithful conversion, but with tight filesize limits I won't hold my breath.

a perfect version of the sequel to dragon lair Space Ace has been available on the iphone for a while now and is only £3. which is still pretty expensive as from start to finish its about 10 mins long. and their is no gamplay to speak of. still fun the first time through though

lol yeah I played the NES one too. Take one step. Die. Rinse and repeat.

Reminds me of that "Waterworld" game from The Simpsons that one time... "You are dead. Insert 40 quarters to continue."

Or you could just get a PS3 and wait for Heavy Rain.

They should have ported Another World (and/or Flashback) instead.

You can get Dragons Lair for the PS3 already in the form of a Blu-Ray version.

I had the SNES Dragon's Lair. Good lord that was a terrible game. Awful controls and dodgy collision detection.

Well I'm pleased as I love Dragon's Lair :0)

but I haven't got a DSi :0(

el pollo - Another World was ported for the GBA which means you can run it on a DS with a homebrew cart
