Dragon Age character creator dated News

PC News by Robert Purchese

2 October, 2009

BioWare will release the Dragon Age: Origins character creator on 13th October, affording you three weeks to pour over your hero before launch.

This is "currently" for PC users only, and will be available as a standalone download (320MB) from the Dragon Age website.

Coinciding with the character creator will be the open beta launch of the Dragon Age social community site. Better still - if you're horrendously nerdy like moi - you can upload your new character to be your avatar on the site.

The full announcement by BioWare's community leader Chris Priestly can be found on the Dragon Age forums.

But that's boring - why not watch a stirring Dragon Age: Origins video instead? It is Friday.

Awesome - will probably do this, even though I'll be getting the game on 360.

I like it when people do this. It's pointless yes, but it's fun. Like the Spore Creator. Builds up hype.

Good to see that they aren't charging for it like they did with the Spore Character Creator. Good way to drum up some interest without putting out a proper demo.

This is a fantastic idea, imo. For those of use hotly anticipating the game, it gives us ample time create our character who we'll be spending many, many hours with.

That's nice. I'd forgotten about this game as well. Thought it had been delayed to 2010.

Time to make that lesbian rouge halfling! Which was an actual character somebody played at a DnD session I participated in years ago.

What's up with the negs on this one?

I have a feeling this game will have the hand-holding required for Dan Whitehead to score it 8 and above.. Yay Bioware!

Having spent way too much time on the Bioware forums, I'm thinking this game certainly will be BG's heir. Ignore the worrisome trailers, it's just marketing trying to catch new fish.

This is awesome for someone like me who takes ages creating a character. :o)

I remember when I first had Morrowind/Oblivion I spent almost 2 hours creating and re-making characters until I was set, but was also rushing due to wanting to play the game! But with this I have plenty of time to decide.

Don't worry about the ads showing metal guitar and eviscerating monsters. Look at the recent Mass Effect 2 trailers- they are also terrible. It's all EA's fault, their marketing is designed to trick idiots into thinking their Bioware RPGs are in fact Gears of War style action games. I guess they didn't stop to think that this would alienate RPG fans.

So don't watch the trailers, watch gameplay videos and read previews and you will get a totally different impression of the game than you would from the EA trailers. And the game looks fucking amazing.

Dammit get the creator released on XBLA and PSN as well if you're serious about selling this as a multi-platform release.

Beardiness optional on dwarves. Thin end of wedge.

Oh, and the elves are clumsy fuckers too.

Try as I might, I just cannot get excited about this game. Bioware have re-jigged the special warrior type thing several times. First KOTOR with Jedi, then Mass Effect with Spectres, & DA:O with Grey Wardens. The sci-fi thing I could get down with, but this game will have to be VERY special to get me rushing out to buy it. I've still got a copy of Jade Empire I haven't been bothered to play yet. & I bough that from new!!
