Download World in Conflict now

Metaboli encouraging laziness.

Sumptuous PC strategy game World in Conflict is released today, and you can get hold of it without scarcely moving a muscle.

That's because Metaboli is digitally distributing the game to eager fans, calling on Linford Christie-like transfer speeds to dish it out as fast as possible.

And once you have the package, you can burn it onto disc to throw at unfortunate friends, or re-download because you deleted it by accident when someone knocked without entering.

All you have to do to is pop over to the neatly designed site and shell out GBP 34.99 to get your hands on it. Oh look, it says Eurogamer in the top left.

World in Conflict is a terrific real-time strategy game by Swedish developer Massive Entertainment. It puts nuclear warfare at your fingertips and backs it up with honed and refined genre mechanics.

Although it doesn't attempt to recreate the wheel, the familiarity easily helps you sink into the mouth-watering production values. It's got an absolutely immense multiplayer side to it, too, if competitiveness is your cup of radioactive tea.

We called it "an absolute beast of a game" in our recent review, awarding it a thoroughly well deserved 9/10. Pop over to our thoughts for a closer examination.

50 Euros when you can buy a boxed version, with manual and all, for 40 everywhere on the net.

If these services want to lift off, they need to think hard about their price structure. That said, metaboli's games on demand subscription is decent.

That's a ridiculous price, it really is.

No manual, no way of selling it on or lending it to someone and no 'new game' smell.

£34.99 does that mean the collectors edition kit I got with headset and everything for £39.99 was practically all free stuff?! Err.. I thought the aim of digital distribution was to lower costs to provide the consumer with an attractive buy and lower the cost to the publisher thus keeping the profit margins, if not helping them.

0_o Not quite there yet is it?
I look forward to reading the manual in the "Reading Room" while the game installs tonight as the game should be awaiting me on my return home. There goes the weekend. :)

hammerstein07, they have different deals in different parts of the World. Poland got dvds and caps and flags and t-shirts and bags and we got headsets and berlin wall and dvds and the yanks got the game. :) bwah ha ha ha. Good to see Europe getting some nice swag.

Ten quid more (im pretty sure it can be had for 24.99 online) for less???

Thats not how it supposed to work. I always thought the benefit of downloading games was that they would be cheaper... No packaging, distribution costs etc etc
  • hammerstein07 #12 4 years ago

Poland got a pretty good package from what I heard.

It makes Steam look very good, when other sites are selling a game at almost full retail price (normal version £25.99 I can find)

The headset is £10 (although you can't buy it stamped with World In Conflict).. I had one of these headsets until recently, I kinda sat on it :( so.. I best not sit on this one! The History Channel DVD probably costs something as well. Cut them out of the publishing cost, just distribute the game.. I'm sorry but unless the costs of such a service are so high and their customer numbers extremely low.. they can't justify such a high cost.

    What a fantastic Idea!

    NOT

They really ought to check out store prices. With digital distribution they dont have retailers taking their share of the profits (a substantial amount) nor do they have the physical manufacturing costs (not a significant amount) and they also dont have physical distribution costs (A significant amount, they take more than you might think. All in all they are saving at least 50% with Digital Distribution.

    Idiots.

My £22.99 copy turned up in the post this morning, it does put things in perspective quite well really.

Quite surprised by the 10 day trial key and disc in the box too.

    Knocked without entering, you say?
  • Tomnd #16 4 years ago

yeah that price is rediculous, 27 quid on amazon. Digital distrubution is supposed to take out the middle man...
  • Tyronne #17 4 years ago

I hate to say this but there really has to be some better prices with this kinda distribution. The reason its full price in shops is the distribution chain , remove that and you should not be charging full price for a virtual object regardless what it is. Truth be told I do want this game but I will not doubt get it off play or somewhere and will not pay this kinda price.
