Doom Classic launches on iPhone
Thy cash consumed.
id Software has finally released Doom Classic for the iPhone. You can grab it now for £3.99.
Not to be confused with Doom Resurrection, Doom Classic is the original PC first-person shooter reborn with several control schemes and all four original episodes for a total of 36 levels.
It also supports wireless multiplayer for up to four people.
Which is all great, but does it have infrequent/mild sexual content or nudity? Probably not. Unless you count the Cyber Demon.

But yes, I'm used to the Wii Shop's prices so anything's a bargain, including £3.99 for a pint.

Doom Resurrection however great - as it knew this and came up with a completely different control mechanism.

I'm confused now. Anyway, if they were doing this properly they'd release the first episode as a demo

Yeah, it's Ultimate Doom, with Thy Flesh Consumed added.
Pocketgamer just gave it a 7 - control issues apparently.
If I had an iPhone I would still buy it (for the billionth time).

Can't wait for the Doom 2 xbla release this autumn. For some reason these games stay incredibly addictive.

Worth it for a bit of old skool action without the eyes bleeding. Still a great game for a quick blast

if you really didn't want to play doom then i'm pretty sure you could find a way to do that.

My main gripe is the controls. Wolf3D worked perfectly without really needing a strafe control, so it was simple left stick for fowards/backwards/turn left/turn right and a fire button on the right side of the screen. This scheme is in Doom as well, but it's not as successful. Obviously with Doom there were rooms full of enemies and strafing becomes much more important. There's a dual stick control scheme like modern shooters with movement on the left and look left/right on the right, but this makes the fire button hard to reach in the top right corner. Even on the easiest difficulty it's hard to kill a Cyberdaemon like that.
I think if John Carmack can think about implementing some sort of strafe on the right fire button, so you can strafe when firing I think it would solve it. It's still definitely worth a buy, especially for the effortless multiplayer it has. You can literally be up and fragging in 15 seconds.
C&C Red Alert is also out, but like most EA games it's been rushed out for Christmas and so is full of bugs and runs like shit on anything that's not an iPhone 3GS.

I tend to keep the original models on but turn on lens flare! Mmm, lens flare.
