DJ Hero turntable only works in DJ Hero

Peripheral incompatible with anything else.

Developer FreeStyleGames has said the DJ Hero turntable peripheral will not work with any other game but its own.

"DJ Hero is DJ Hero. If someone needed to use our controller, then they would basically have to rip our game off," creative director Jamie Jackson told Destructoid.

It's a statement that contradicts the instrument-sharing strides made by Rock Band and Guitar Hero lately. However, DJ Hero has only one peripheral and will be rival-less from launch this autumn until sometime next year.

Activision, of course, may decide to make the turntable compatible with future Guitar Hero instalments - in much the same way you can plug a guitar in and play DJ Hero currently.

DJ Hero has an SRP of £109.99, although most shops are offering the game for around 100 quid.

Ah that sucks, for all those other cheap-peripheral-based DJ sims out there.

    Hold on...

Such a non-story. Guitar Hero & Rock Band have identical gameplay, hence their controllers can be compatible. For a competing product to have a use for the DJ Hero controller, it would *have* to rip off the gameplay, since the gameplay and controller are explicitly tied.

That's obvious, right? I mean, right?

I've been reduced to playing Pro Evo on a guitar hero controller before. With hee-larious consequences (I lie. I just gave up)

When are we going to get DJ's going mental about how crap the game is and how people should be buying real decks and getting out there?

  • Rubarack #12 3 years ago

Bit rich considering how much Guitar Hero was "inspired" by Rock band.

I tried it on a Dance Mat a few years ago, though I was at a disadvantage because my mat didn't have an R1 equivalent on it. The match finished 1-1.

Yep, I've played SFIV on my Aerosmith Guitar, so if I can't have a go on GTA with my turntable I'll be WAY pissed off!!!!

    /waits for £40 pricetag...

@jambo: I'm not even a DJ and I've been saying that ever since this was announced. @Zoro: That gives me a great idea. Tea Hero! With the Official Activision Tea Tray controller, thrill as you simulate stirring tea in a variety of realistic locations such as a kitchen, factory tea trolley, coffee shop and - for the ultimate challenge - the buffet car of a train travelling at over 100mph! Note the tray accessory is not compatible with EA's competing Coffee Maker: Costa Edition.

Yes, £100 and worth every penny. I've had a fair few hours of play on it and can confidently say it's more fun than Guitar Hero/Rock Band.. at least it is in my opinion, and I normally don't like to associate myself with Hip Hop and Dance music.
