Divinity II demo on Xbox Live

Don't you want me.

Head over to Xbox Live this morning and you can download a demo of Larian Studios' Divinity II: Ego Draconis.

The demo weighs in at 1GB and you can download it from Xbox Live Marketplace or through the website if you like.

Divinity II is a one-man, Dragon Knight-slaying action RPG published earlier this year on PC and Xbox 360, and recipient of a friendly but suitably scathing 6/10 assessment in its Eurogamer review.

However, despite the fact it was released at roughly the same time as the superior Dragon Age, they're quite different eggs. Perhaps go investigate, should you have nothing better to do. There's a demo, doncha know.

    I like it, very hard to demo an RPG, being as there is so much to them, but the bits it shows play well. Reminds me of the wonderful Two Worlds. I know you will minus me for my love of TW but I can deal with that.

    If you like a nice western action RPG seems like you could do a lot worse than this, some shoddy animation and disappointing character models aside it's also a rather nice looking game.

    Its a surprisingly good game, in fact! Eurogamer were maybe a little harsh on it in my book ;)

    Will give it a try! \o/

    Mrs Retroid has stolen my copy of Dragon Age and plans to play it through more than the once so I doubt I'll get my hands on that any time soon...

    @ Duffman5 I thought that there were elements of Two Worlds that were better than Oblivion, just a shame that it was hidden under a fairly hefty chunk of crap!

    Eurogamer was a little harsh in their review. Eurogamer Spain for example gave it a 9, and the metacritic score is 77%.
    Ok that may have been too much but a 7 seemed more logical, especially since when you read the EG review it's actually quite positive.

    I've been on the verge of buying this for some time but not heard all that much about it so have held off.

    "However, despite the fact it was released at roughly the same time as the superior Dragon Age, they're quite different eggs."

    I've played and completed both, and can soundly attest that Dragon Age isn't superior to Divinity 2. As far as story-telling (great stuff), questing (lots and lots of them to find with good rewards), graphics (the Bioware and Gamebryo engine each have their pros and cons) and gameplay (great fun) go, they're the same level.

    The only real difference is that in Dragon Age, you control four characters and in Divinity 2, you control just the one, plus a bot. Also, your copy of Divinity 2 may suffer a "neverending loading screen" bug, which can be pretty annoying. Pray that it doesn't happen to you.

    @DasBooter
    Ugly as sin, stop-motion animation, poor textures and a player character permanently stuck in fisticuffs mode who does kung fu kicks?
    Permanently stuck in "fisticuffs mode"? Well, I can't comment on the console versions, but if you're playing the PC version, you can press the TAB key to exit "fisticuffs mode" anytime. Know the controls.

    A suprisingly good demo. Maybe suprising because I hadn't even heard of this game, let alone expected anything from it. It definitely moved this game from "what?" to "something to rent".

    @VMerken: the other difference is that Dragon Age is a 70 hours RPG with lots of replay value, while divinity lasts around 30 hours and has no replay value.

    @ParanoidZombie:
    Sure, if you do none of the side quests in Divinity 2 and all of them in Dragon Age, then you get the 30-70 comparison. Conversely, if you do all the side quests in Divinity 2 and none of them in Dragon Age, you get 70-30. It's all about the way you play. I went for max side questing in both games, and they gave me pretty much the same bang for my buck.

    As for replay value, true, you can play the first hour of Dragon Age in six different ways, whereas in Divinity 2, you cannot. Also, Dragon Age has four difficulty levels, Divinity 2 has three. But, the bulk in either game stays the same, is of comparable size, and you can fiddle around with spells and abilities multiple times (to change playing style) if need be. Speed runs are an option in either game, as well.

    looks like a pc game, plays like a pc game. Reminds me of just how polished fable 2 is.

    It's a great game! but I'm quite sceptical to a console-version. It will probablu be a fiasco so big that people don't buy any version ala Two Worlds.
