Disney DLC for LBP just an example - Sony
All sorts of third-parties in talks.
Sony has told Eurogamer that official Disney downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet has only been mentioned as an example of third-party support, adding that nothing has been finalised.
"LBP will have a steady stream of downloadable content, and we have mentioned in the past that we are in talks with third-parties regarding themed downloadable packs," a spokesperson told Eurogamer, shedding light on speculation from the Penny Arcade expo over the weekend.
"Disney has been mentioned in the context of being an example. We are currently still in talks with third-parties and are consequently unable to confirm anything at this stage."
Developer Media Molecule had previously boasted of having "loads of plans" for LittleBigPlanet DLC, although the team would wait to see what people wanted first.
Coincidentally, Sony happens to have loads of plans for LittleBigPlanet, including making game character Sackboy the new face of PS3.
Still, not long now, with LittleBigPlanet due out exclusively for PS3 on 29th October.

I don't get this people not getting LBP. :/
You run and jump as in 2D platformer, and you can create you're own levels if you want, what's not to get!?
Maybe it's the whole 2D platformer thing that throws people off.

I have said that I don't get the point of the game as there appears to be no actual goal to it. I'm only posting this so that if you don't have me on ignore, now is your chance to do so. After all it seems to be illegal to have an opinion that differs from yours so I surrender to your judgement.
Now hurry up and ignore me please.
Edited: for the spelling as usual.....O_o
For everyone else that can't understand why some people simply don't get the point of the game. It's quite simply really. In Mario, or Sonic or Crash or even Bionic commando (all arguably platformers) there is an end goal that you work towards. It's the thing that motivates you to keep going level after level. After a while just jumping from one platform to the next becomes meaningless so you need somthing to compel you to jump that next ledge or hop on the head of the next monster.
LBP does not appear to have this at all. Everytime you complete a level you get an object that you can use to build your own levels or jazz up your sack boy/girl. What happens therefore, if you have no interest in building your own levels. What is the point of collecting the level pieces then? Even dressing up your sack person becomes meaningless if you are the only one that sees them or you end up one of a dozen helgast or kratos or jack sparrow sack boys running around a level.
Until I see then end product and find out what it's actually all about, I will continue not to get the purpose of LBP at all.

No. A lot of the information you're basing your disinterest towards the game on is incorrect.
1. Each existing level has a story. Pay enough attention to the gameplay demos and you'll see bosses talking to you and lots of text to explain the aim of each level - and this is not merely used to explain puzzles. Another thing that I'd like to point out is that those "rescue the princess" or "destroy Robotnik's robots" storylines one is pointed to by your examples hardly represent compelling emotional drama to drive us, do they?
2. Items used for construction are scattered across every level. They are not just end of level rewards, although they can also serve that purpose. Also, there IS a score and there are collectibles other than construction blocks.
3. If you have no interest in building your own levels, there are over 50 levels pre-built on the disc. Like any good platform game you cited in your example, there are collectible items, scores, and times to beat. LBP will have a competitive leaderboard.
Dare I say, LBP is no more self-indulgent than any other game for that matter. The editor mixed in the game engine makes it special indeed, but the positive impression the press got is based on fun and satisfying gameplay, which I hope to enjoy as well soon.

Rescue the princess
Save people from the stomping Godzilla thing
As objectives. In the past they've mentioned using co-op play to navigate levels, so that would be puzzle based objectives.
ok, those are from trailer movies, but the details on what the game is about is scarce (which is good, I mean you want some surprises there).
I think what you're asking for is some sort of story based arc, which doesn't appear to be what the game has. It looks like the 50 or so levels are objective based, do x thing on this level to win, which is perfectly viable as a purpose.
and THEN you've got all the open ended creation side of things too, which ok, you're not interested in, but it would be the first time I've seen having a clean slate, open end described as a bad thing.
Also there is a repeating comment I see which states that the user created content will most likely be duff. I'm sure loads of it will, I'm sure some of it will be ace... I mean look at the PC scene, loads of games come out and the first thing people say is "I can't wait until the mod scene get hold of this".
Plus there is the potential for guest developer levels, with whatever objective and purpose they wish to set out.

You seriously need the fact you are trying to rescue Princess Peach for the nth time to enjoy a Mario game? Surely it's the actual fun in playing which is why we play video games of this type in the first place? If the game doesn't stand up on that then it will fail, not because you are doing it for some arbitrary story reason.
Take Braid for example, there was a story there but if you ignored it then it didn't matter because the gameplay was solid. You enjoyed playing the levels. The story was meant to be a big part of it but like the Zero Punctuation review pointed out, it was like the game and the story were in separate rooms and you were just peering in on it occasionally.

Where did you get that from? I've actually played the game, both at the GDC and a few shows. The bosses merely say some silly stuff as you attack them. The attack consists of jumping on a trigger while the boss jiggles around a bit. I'm going to assume you've seem a few more videos of LBP than I have as I simply don't know where your info is coming from.

Yep true enough. You get them as you go through the level. Kind of object blueprints as near as I could tell. Never got to actually experience the bit where you use them to build an actual level. The other collectables were for the sack boy unless you know of some others that come later on. I got a mexican hat, when I played I believe.

That's pretty much it I guess. I think that having played the early show stuff. I was left less impressed than the Press seem to be. Take the multi-player element for instance. It doesn't change the levels for multiplayer but, instead simply cuts off access to certain routes unless you have 1, 2 or 3 others playing with you. I'm not sure if there is a way around these objects for a single player but, I didn't see any with my brief hands on. The game in single player isn't nearly as fun as multiplayer and most of the hands on sessions were pretty much forced multiplayer by the devs.
This is why the last thing I said in my post was that I will reserve judgement until I get my hands on a retail copy. Until then, there are simply too many questions about what exactly the game is about.

I actually feel safer pre-ordering this than sticking my neck out for Mirrors Edge for some reason.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
I pre-ordered this (LBP) a while back on the grounds I can always bung it to my nephew if it's total crud. I pre-ordered on the grounds that I haven't bought anything for PS3 in ages!
I agree about mirrors edge though. They wouldn't let us actually play it at the show and it looked seriously linear as hell too.

They're making Sackboy they're ps3 mascot and saying it will sell ps3's.
Didn't they learn with Lair (actually pretty good after getting used to the controls) and Haze?
Im too kinda confused about this game, to me it seems like its about level editing and multiplayer.
If its got a decent singleplayer, ill get it.
