DiRT 2 PC dated for Europe News

PC News by Robert Purchese

22 October, 2009

Codemasters will release the PC version of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 here on 4th December.

The rally game is among the vanguard supporting new DirectX 11 improvements. Yes, that means hardware tessellation for better water and crowds; Shader Model 5.0 depth for snazzy shadows; and multi-threading for lots of threads.

We've stuffed some screenshots into our Colin McRae: DiRT gallery for you to look at.

DiRT 2, "a fine sequel", zipped out on console in September. Whether the PC market, traditionally a little more hardcore, will welcome Codemasters' tend toward accessibility remains to be seen.

Head over to our DiRT 2 review for a full analysis.

I'm pretty certain the 5850 and 5870 are the only DX11 cards available. BTW, if you get the (pricey) HIS 5870, you'll get a free copy of DIRT 2 bundled in http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-47...

Personally I can't wait for this game. i think there's plenty of room for arcade racers on the PC, and GRiD is a personal favourite of mine, so I can't imagine disliking this. The presentation puts me off, but I'm sure the graphics and the racing will be awesome.

Actually, the HIS 5850 and the HIS 5770 also have a coupon for Dirt 2 (I'm reviewing them) so you can get the cheaper model and still get the game.

I hope the new NVIDIA cards will be out by December then as I'd like to see this game running with DX11 effects on my system.

Anyone expecting an easy NFS type arcade experience are in for a rude awakening. This game takes a lot of practice to drive the various vehicles well. Personally I love playing the game online in ranked races where the competition is as fierce as it gets.
