Great article.

I had heard they were presenting their new game at Cologne but didn't know it was going to be another shooter. Please keep up the goodness, there are so many shooters that end up being not so fun.

It is so refreshing to see a developer who understands gameplay so coherently. Truly wonderful game.

I only played Super Stardust on the PC LOOOOONG ago, it was kinda fun but got absurdly difficult later on and the tunnel flight sequences just didn't work well. Does the PS3 version still have a penguin in a top hat riding on top of a penguin-faced death star as the end boss?

Waaaa, PS3 doesn't have gears of war so it's the worst console of all time!

Idiot.

Watching those tips has just reinforced the fact that I'll never ever be any good at these types of shooters.

There's nothing more demoralising than being at the bottom of the friend leaderboards :*(

This is such a good game but I suck at it big time!
One of the best looking games on PS3.

Yep, the Amiga is where I remember Stardust from, and it's always been a game that's looked ahead of it's time graphically.

I must say I was rather disappointed that the article didn't go into the history of Stardust from it's Amiga days and why they picked that particular title to run with for a next gen PS3 game.

Loved the original game on Amiga, loved this one on PS3 even more. Probably my favorite downloadable game on consoles period. I'm guessing they are working on sequel, and I can only hope they will be able to outmatch themselves again.

George Roper, the game runs in 1080p, not 720p, and is rock solid 60FPS also, which if you've ever seen it running on your TV, I'm sure you'd admit is a feat worth bragging about - as the game looks pretty darn amazing. Off topic, but I also wouldn't call games like Wipeout HD or GT5P something that looks static and has low amount of assets, and those are 1080p / 60 also.

Evilfoxhound, Team 17 had pretty much nothing to do with the original game. Bloodhouse made and published it, and they also made the Amiga sequel Super Stardust, which was then only published by Team 17. Later on, they merged with Terramarque, developers of Elfmania on Amiga, to form today's Housemarque.

I almost feel sorry, they mention TLO-Mek and Bridy, but not me or ER777...

I mean, I've accomplished more in almost every mode than TLO-Mek.

Anyone else remember Stardust on the Amiga 600? The graphics were awesome for the time.

I had the PC version but Super Stardust was way better and prettier. One of the few games where prerendered graphics actually looked great. The Reap was even prettier but not as fun.

1080p is the name of the standard for HDTV and assumes a 16:9 aspect ratio, meaning it's 1920x1080 progressive-scan unless stated otherwise... Could someone tell developers to stop advertising their games as 1080p when they are rendering at 1280x1080? It's misleading, to say the least.

I'd love to see DF interviewing Guerrilla or Poliphony Digital. Those guys must have spent ages developing the engine to get that kind of performance...

So... not 1080P then after all. Not to say that's not impressive still, but I had been wondering.

Ace game, great article. Even more respect for the developers after reading that!

If 1280x1080 stretched to widescreen is not 1080p, then the Wii shouldn't be called 480p either (stretched 640x480). Doesn't bother me, a deadsmooth framerate's much more important anyway.

Mr_Bogus, you made doubt. If the Wikipedia is accurate on this: 480p is EDTV is an enhancement of traditional television, both aspect ratios 4:3 (640x480) and 16:9 (852x480) are accepted. 720p and 1080p are modes created for HDTV with 16:9 aspect ratio.

It felt extrange to think that Nintendo was misleading when advertising 480p... they were not, saying the Wii is 480p seems perfectly correct.
