How does it look awful - looks rather good to me, esp for 5.99

they need to give this tech to Bethesda - maybe it will speed PSP Oblivion project a bit.

this keeps my hope alive -.-

edit: if it were canned, Bethesda would have explicitly said it, no?

the paragraph detailing the nature of the controls continue to raise concerns regarding the viability of Apple's hardware as a gaming platform. i remain sceptical.

I was very impressed with the graphics on my 3G, Carmack has said the game was an experiment to see what sort of graphics can be achieved on the phone using high production values and clearly a lot can be done with a full team working on it.

That said, the on-rails nature is very disappointing. If they'd made it free-roaming it could have been awesome, but as it is, it gets a bit tedious and the tilt-to-aim mechanic is very fiddly for me. It didn't work very well when Silent Hill did it on the iPhone a while back so I'm surprised someone tried it again.

I'm mainly looking forward to the release of Doom Classic, as I had a blast working through Wolfenstein, so Doom should be even more fun. Now if someone would just consider porting Dark Forces, Duke Nukem 3D and possibly Jedi Knight...

Rash', I believe the iPhone has already turned out to be a great gaming platform. It just takes developers to understand that it is a different platform, not a PSP-clone.

No one expected first person shooters to succeed on consoles a few years ago... but Bungie hit the right key with Halo and now everybody's doing solid FPS on consoles. It was a matter of gettign the controls right and changing a couple of things, like self-regenerating life (I know many say that FPS are best on PC, but it doesn't mean that developers should develop them on consoles as well).

I'm not saying that iPhone is suited for FPS (it's not!) but I'm sure there are imaginative ways of making great things on the iPhone. ID tried Doom on rails, not perfect, but a good try. They'll get it better next time.

On top of that, multitouch screen opens a new territory for adventure games, puzzles and other genres not yet invented! I wonder if nodoby has already tried multitouch porn game...
