Watch Portal running on Nvidia Shield

Valve's classic ported to the handheld Android console.

After revealing the staggeringly pricey Titan Z graphics card, and announcing its revolutionary new Pascal GPU technology, Nvidia ended its GPU Technology Conference keynote with a nice little sweetener for owners of the Shield console - first gameplay footage of Valve's Portal running on the handheld.

No meaty details about the port were revealed, but we got to see a bit of the game in action, apparently running on the handheld, and you can check it out below. Nvidia's big boss, Jen-Hsun Huang suggested that Valve itself is handling the port, but details seem sketchy on whether the game is exclusive to Shield, or whether it will be available on other Android devices.

"Nvidia has created a very powerful and unique device with Shield," said Valve's Doug Lombardi. "Our companies have a strong history working together and we're looking forward to Portal's arrival on Shield.

Portal never really pushed the Source engine, making it the perfect fit for more capable mobile devices, and while Nvidia Shield has hardly set the world alight, a decent port of a highly regarded game can only be a good thing - especially if more Valve back catalogue titles make their way onto mobile devices in the fullness of time.
