Destroy All Humans! on Xbox Originals News

Xbox 360 Xbox News by Robert Purchese

12 September, 2008

Microsoft is popping exclamatory siblings Destroy All Humans! and Intellivision Lives! on Xbox Live Originals this coming Monday, 15th September.

Destroy All Humans!, which appeared on Xbox 1 back in June 2005, puts us in the space-boots of alien invader Crypto, who embarks on a rather comic rampage across Earth after his saucer crash-lands here.

It's certainly charming, we concluded at the time, but also let down by rather bland run-and-gun (and then get in a saucer and fry people) gameplay. Our Destroy All Humans! review can tell you much more.

Incidentally, THQ has a PS3 and 360 follow-up - Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon - planned for later this year.

Intellivision Lives!, the other - and equally surprised - Xbox 1 game on offer, cobbles together a bunch of 60 games that appeared here in 1982. Good year, that.

Both games cost 1200 Microsoft Points (GBP 10.20 / EUR 14.40), as do all the Xbox Originals released so far.

Destroy All Humans! was quite a good game and it's great to see it on Xbox Originals. I won't be buying it since I already have it.

But I can't help almost weeping with frustration that Silent Hill 2 is not on Xbox Originals yet - preferably having been fixed so it works properly in the UK (still can't get my disc version to work). Perhaps they could release Silent Hill 2 to try and cash-in on Silent Hill Homecoming.

PLEASE MICROSOFT - GIVE US SILENT HILL 2 ON XBOX ORIGINALS.

But anyway - Destroy All Humans - YAY!

I wonder how the whole Xbox Originals planning process goes? It started off quite well, with mainstay titles like Halo and cult hits like Psychonauts and Farenheit, but recently it seems they just add random games to the service at random times.

Also, I can't imagine a lot of people will be shelling out 1200MSP for Intellivision Lives.

Ten quid is a bit expensive for a game which can be picked up for a third of that in a shop or online. I'd say about seven quid would be more appropriate. Anyway, never played DAH!, but it's one of those games I've been meaning to for years.

800 points would make a lot more sense really - not to mention that my hard drive basically has no space on it for those sort of things. Means old xbox games for £1.99 from game are going to be a better proposition...

dazrichards, Destroy All Humans! didn't feature the full film of Plan 9 From Outer Space, only an exerpt from it.* It did feature an unlockable free film though - Teenagers from Outer Space, I think it was called.

*Unless it DID feature the full film, and I just never unlocked it.

That would explain what the ~500mb xmv was when I was copying DAH! to my Xbox's HDD....

/Cough

Seriously, though.... Intellivision lives? That's... a bit of an odd one, isn't it?

To be fair, Nintendo isn't much better in that respect.

DAH and DAH2 were both awesome. Crypto is the man. Really looking forward to the new one.
