Desmond sees "action" in Assassin's 2 News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Tom Bramwell

31 July, 2009

Desmond, the man whose genetic recollections fuelled Altair's murderous rampage in Assassin's Creed, sounds like he will get to do a lot more than just stroll around an Abstergo prison cell and steal pens in the sequel.

We've previously been told that he is a bit more interactive this time, but according to executive producer Jade Raymond the Desmond sections are "more focused on action sequences" this time.

Raymond, who was speaking to Kotaku, reiterated that Desmond's story will continue right after the conclusion to the first game, which saw him - er, spoiler! - trapped in the lab but able to read wacky messages on the wall after Kristen Bell's character saved him.

However, Raymond was quiet on another Assassin's secret - whether or not Metal Gear Solid 4's playful Altair easter egg will be met with an answering nod in Assassin's Creed 2. According to Kotaku, she laughed, smiled and said, "Maybe... maybe not."

I don't know why people hated the Desmond stuff, I thought it was cool (except for the conevient big blue walls in the game this plot enabled!).

I watched that comiccon vid and apparently 15 mission types this time. \o/

Does anyone know if you still get to ride horses? I LOVED just riding around the landscape, humming the theme from Black Beauty.

more mission types +1

fixes for crashes or game lockups would be more appreciated, only got halfway through the 1st game but got tired of the frequent lockups - especially when attempting the same assassination for the 8th time as a result and having to start over.

I don't get the hate on the desmond stuff either. It's not like it lasted long or anything: you got some exposition before and after a mission and went to bed/hopped onto the animus. And the whole puzzle in the post-credits thing actually made the story a lot more intriguing.

The only thing that bothered me about Desmond was that he was soooo painfully slow!

+1 to the Black Beauty humming.

More Kristen Bell please, and not a virtual one. Some HD video would do ;)

Nice to see Desmond gets more active. I did enjoy his little story sections joining the chapters together. But time of course he's a bit more skilled.

Having synced up with Altair, he'll have his skills on top of his own (though he protested he wasn't an assassin, that prequel comic suggests otherwise), plus he might pick up new ones. Should make it interesting, especially if you could switch movesets on the fly.

I can see you running across futuristic rooftops , switching to Altair and performing a leap of faith, then swithing back to Desmond to hack a door. Or something similar anyway.

The first time I played AC I skipped past all the real-world bits, sort of in unconscious protest at the whole scifi angle.

But on the second playthrough I embraced them, and they did actually add some depth that I appreciated.

It was a bit weird that the last 20 minutes seemed like they'd gone 'oh yeah, we'd better tell people what the plot was'.

So this has nothing to do with that old Channel 4 sitcom about a black barbers? :(

Yes, plus a bit of quiet time after running around stabbing everybody. I didn't mind it at all.

@bad09, yes, the horses were AWESOME. That's how they should've been done in Oblivion. More mission types is also awesome, because that was my only gripe with the first one.

I actually quite liked the Desmond stuff.

I really liked the Desmond bits too (apart from that he walked slow as fuck). They really added to the immersion.

They kinda felt like Lost.

Good, I was wondering when he was gonna make a move on that fetching lab assistant.
