Demos galore line the PS3 Store

Katamari! FIFA! LBP! Fat Princess!

Demos for Katamari Forever, FIFA 10, Fat Princess and LittleBigPlanet are the star attractions on the PlayStation Store this week.

The Katamari Forever sampler offers two levels and a choice of playing as either the Prince or one of his seven cousins. What an energetic family. The full game launches here on 18th September.

The FIFA 10 demo and its contents we know about, remember, and the two other sampled games are released and reviewed.

Coinciding with the release of Guitar Hero 5 today are disc import and DLC update patches for Guitar Hero World Tour. There's a clutch of new songs to pick from, too, although Rock Band's offerings are beefier.

There's not a lot else to get excited about on the store, unless you happen to like Star Trek and PAIN and want to combine the two with a George Takei (Mr Sulu) pack.

Fat Princess demo has been removed Rob. They released it early by accident.
  • Cloudane #2 2 years ago

I urge everybody to NOT buy the MotorStorm dynamic theme.

    £1.59 poorly wasted.

The LittleBigPlanet dynamic theme on the other hand is lovely! It puts a smile upon your face.

    Katamari demo: GET
  • jaxon58 #4 2 years ago

    Liking the Katamari demo.
In fact, any game that has the text 'Your ball is as big as 129 blocks of chocolate' gets my vote.
  • Darren #5 2 years ago

The best dynamic theme IMO is ironically the only one that's free: the WipEout Fury one!
  • Edwin #6 2 years ago

I think Fifa is worse than last years effort, it looks as though they have Tiger Wood'ed it, where last years was difficult to improve upon.... try this, get ball run into your own box and stand still... nothing happens, I just stood there for a whole half. Piss poor, if pro evo cannot be better than that, they seriously need to give it up.
  • el_pollo_diablo #7 2 years ago

The Afrika theme on the japanese store is lovely.
I find the Wipeout one a bit hectic.
  • mcwildcard #8 2 years ago

When will you guys be reviewing Katamari Froever?
  • Zebula77 #9 2 years ago

Hmm, shame the Fat Princess demo has been removed. I'm too cautious to splash out on the full game.

To anyone who owns the full game - is it online only, or is there a single player offline mode?
  • Darren #10 2 years ago

@el_pollo_diablo - The Afrika one is, indeed, lovely but it has one major shortcoming... you can't see the icons properly or read the text... unless you darken the background in which case it looks less nice. The LittleBigPlanet and WipEout Fury ones I have are much better because they both have dark backgrounds.

I still can't believe Sony doesn't allow you to change the icon/text colour after all this time... any theme with a light background renders the XMB almost unusable IMO.
  • ron_aldo #11 2 years ago

You can alter the brightness of any theme
  • Beano #12 2 years ago

The new Katamari looks nice in 1080p glory ;)
  • cherryuk #13 2 years ago

Katamairi demo is cool played the Jap demo a month ago, no differences here.

Although the price of Katamari is at a rrp (Retailers rip off price) of £44.99 - although a quick search reveals amazon UK for £25.99.
  • cherryuk #14 2 years ago

I downloaded the Fat Princess OK last night (Thurs) it plays great, it's a bit deeper than the initial movies portray and bloody as hell!!
  • Darren #15 2 years ago

@ron_aldo - I know, I said as much in my post. If you darken the background to the Afrika theme though it looks crap as it's supposed to be a bright sunny day not overcast! ;)
  • Artemis_Matsas #16 2 years ago

Katamari is nice, although i don't like this "Robo King" character. Nice graphics, although there is a bit slowdown in the water level.
  • SeesThroughAll #17 2 years ago

OMGZZZ! TEHY FINALLY PORTED INTERPOL TO TEH PSTRIPLEEEEE!!!!! WHEEEEEEEE!
  • cherryuk #18 2 years ago

Sounds like Afrika is on the cards for a Euro release or was the theme from Japan store?
  • cherryuk #19 2 years ago

I prefer the Prince from Katamari PS2 at least he was almost likable!
  • Dave52 #20 2 years ago

@Cloudane, I'll be getting the LBP one as soon as I get home...
  • Burkey123 #21 2 years ago

The Wipeout HD dynamic theme is nice but it should have sound.
I'll probably download the LBP one later. It looks lovely.

Probably download the Katamari and Fat Princess demos tonight.

balls, I agree with donnie. There is no chance of ea doing a 'fight night' (which is superb) as there are mugs like the person I work with looking forward to the new fifa. The 360 movement is also a load of bollocks.

Agreed with the "stop yearly FIFA" movement. EA could perfectly update the game engine merely every two or three years, use that time to improve the produt's quality, and still sell people roster updates as DLC every year anyway.
  • FladgeMangle #25 2 years ago

Disappointed with the lack of PSP content. No Dissidia or IL-2 for download? No Soul Calibur demo? Seems to me they've forgotten they've got a massive download-only re-launch coming in just a few weeks.

Am I confident that come October 1st the store will be fully stocked with every PSP game one could ever wish for?

    Nope.

While I'm at it, I believe that all future PSP title have a at least a few screenshots on the store and preferably a video or demo. I'm not comfortable buying something "sight unseen".

    @ X201

Balls. Thanks for the heads up.
  • shotgun44 #27 2 years ago

The thing is though, EA is a company primarily there to make money and it sells a bazillion FIFA games every year. Selling the roster updates sounds like a logical idea as a gamer, but as long as EA can sell a game at £40 and still sell a a fuckton of copies, not much is gonna change...

Does anyone else find the dynamic wipeout theme has a bit too much going on in the background?
  • collateral89 #29 2 years ago

im mad about fat princess i wanted to try out that game
  • db3 #30 2 years ago

Absolutely loving the Fifa 10 demo......sooooo fluid, it plays like a dream.
  • dom6918 #31 2 years ago

Fifa 10 is amazing..do not say a bad word!!
  • dominalien #32 2 years ago

Does anyone else find the dynamic wipeout theme has a bit too much going on in the background?

Yes, I find it really annoying and turned it off immediately after the novelty wore off. It has way too much movement. Darkening the background makes it a bit better, but then it defeats the purpose of having a cool dynamic wallpaper.

Still, the dynamic theme idea is very good and pretty nicely implemented, imo.
  • M_of_the_sys #33 2 years ago

"Still, the dynamic theme idea is very good and pretty nicely implemented, imo.

I agree. I think the wipeout theme is excellent... just too much going on. Looking forward to more themes.

Tried the Fifa 10 demo. I don't know how people can say it's fluid. Still feels clunky to me and the players still run like they have arthritis. Also feels like you're kicking a medicine ball too. Not impressed with this game at all. Doesn't seem to have changed much in the last 12 years apart from graphics wise and obviously the additional through balls. Edit: and the other functionality too.
Here's hoping Pro Evo is looking up because I've been too long without a football game.

I was also lucky enough to get Fat Princess before they took it off. Never thought I'd like the game simply because of the stupid name but I must say, I had a lot of fun playing it. Never knew what the game was about before but I'm glad I gave it a chance. I'm crap at it though.

Didn't get Katamari. I think I'm too old for it. Looks nice though.

LBP: Looks beautiful. Plays - meh. I'll pick it up if I see it for a tenner but does seem to be a cult thing. I'm guessing it's more fun if you can indulge a lot of time into it.

PS. Bet I get marked down for not liking Fifa. It's just my personal opinion to the game. Not knocking anyone else for liking it.

    @Comrade-Bozzey

Yeah, but the shooting still feels like it's left the boot of a queer bloke who got a good hammering the night before.
  • M_of_the_sys #35 2 years ago

    @Comrade-Bozzey

13- Changed the box art too.

Just thought I'd add onto your list of things that have failed to improve the control (or lack of) and clunkyness.
  • Postumo #36 2 years ago

FIFA 10 looks superb, the best about it is that it tries to eliminate all the online exploits of Fifa09.

Now you can't take the ball with C. Ronaldo and run accross the field leaving every opposite team player behind like they were turtles.
  • GitSomE_UK #37 2 years ago

Love the new Katamari cell shaded look = Must buy for me.

Oh and like the new music in it too.
