Dead Space out on Halloween
Just finalising costume.
EA's upcoming science-fiction shooter Dead Space will be released in Europe and the US on 31st October for PS3 and 360, the publisher announced today, although there's no word on the PC version.
A release date for Halloween, announced in February? That's a bit spooky.
Which is certainly appropriate, because [that was appalling - Ed] Dead Space is billed as a survival horror game. But what is survival horror about, executive producer Glen Schofield? "Survival horror is about experiencing a terrifying, and deeply personal fiction," says executive producer Glen Schofield.
"Dead Space is being developed as a single-player thriller that delivers the chilling, claustrophobic feeling of being isolated in a dark environment, while being stalked by some truly horrific enemies.
"Halloween is the perfect time for EA to deliver the fear and anxiety that will keep survival horror fans up playing all night."
But while it's billed as survival horror, our Event Horizon-loving contributor Rob Fahey reported that that's a bit misleading. Whereas combat plays a secondary role in games like Project Zero and Silent Hill, this is very much an action horror game, closer to something like Doom III.
You can read much more about it in our Dead Space preview, in which Rob also reveals that he owns that rubbish Event Horizon DVD set which looks like the underside of a bus.
