Dead Space heading to Wii this year

Mass Effect II, Bad Company by April 2010.

Electronic Arts boss John Riccitiello has said that a sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company is in development along with a Wii Dead Space game, and that Mass Effect II will be released before the end of the company's next financial year.

That would put the BioWare sequel on shelves by the start of April 2010, which is the same timeframe EA's chief executive outlined for the new Bad Company game "back on consoles" in development at DICE in Stockholm.

Riccitiello said "BioWare will release Mass Effect II on multiple platforms" in reference to the fourth quarter of the company's financial year. Newsweek's N'Gai Croal reports: "EA PR not confirming Mass Effect 2 for PS3, only 360 and PC." We're waiting to hear from EA UK.

As for Dead Space, Riccitiello had been talking about extending series to the Wii. "We are bringing core intellectual properties and franchise in categories we think have legs on the Wii platform," he explained.

"A good example of this is Dead Space. We are bringing a Wii title to market this year, and it is absolutely going to be the quality and fear factor that you've got on the PS3/Xbox 360 and PC SKU this past year."

Elsewhere in its Q3 FY09 earnings report, EA revealed several game delays, including The Sims 3, and plans to shut down 12 offices following a USD 641 million loss.

Fuck, I was hoping for ME2 this year.
  • DFawkes #2 3 years ago

That Wii Dead Space could be alright, if they just par down the visuals and stick on the Resi 4 Wii controls which were good, regardless of what anyone might say. After the abortion that is Alone in the Dark Wii though, I won't hold my breath.

Go Wii! check your bad self with a DS game!

Hell if it's a new game and adds to the story or universe, I may even buy another Wii to check it out, plenty 2nd hand ones out there! ;)
  • bdaggers #4 3 years ago

The article mentions extending the Dead Space universe - ie we cant possibly do Dead Space on the Wii, so we`ll knick the characters and make something entirely different.

    Dead Space Party Animals ?
    Nintynecromorph ?
    Necro Kart maybe ?

Let me say right now: No.

Mass Effect II before April next year? Should give me plenty of time to complete another playthrough, although its quite far down the list at the moment!

What's wrong with people, this site should be renamed 'Eurowhingers'...Dead Space Wii, why not? Resi 4 on Wii is still the far superior game...I do love my Dead Space on PC though, so a different story/scenario would be good.

LOL - Wait and see, they will butcher Dead Space. Maybe you can do some rhythm actions to kill fluffy space aliens.
  • AphoticCosmos #10 3 years ago

Dead Space + Wii = epic lulz
  • Evolution #11 3 years ago

On one hand you have RE4 which was a good port, on the other you have Dead Rising, which looks awful. Have to wait and see what EA do here I think.
  • kangarootoo #12 3 years ago

"which were good, regardless of what anyone might say"

    Not sure how that works.

I'm nearing the end of Dead Space now, and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. The story is pretty generic, but the general mechanics of the game are great. When it comes to player interaction, it certainly shows the Emperor's New Clothing that is the ResEvil series that you can do horror without hamstringing player control.

Exactly! Or maybe like Dead Rising?

    Oh, wait a sec....

Just like Dead Rising?...The game that isn't out yet? Not only whingeing bitches...but clairvoyant too!
  • metalangel #16 3 years ago

I'm sure Dead Space on Wii won't suck as hard as Dead Rising has! Not that Wii owners will care, they too busy brushing pretend ponies and chopping pretend vegetables and such while their real life ponies and veg go ungroomed/sliced. I hope Mass Effect 2 has a "dyke it out" minigame to make up for the crushing disappointment of the original's vaunted "put the clams together with blue alien chicks". Making the enemies more interesting to fight (and not just giving them vast health bars requiring 20 headshots on harder difficulty) would be nice too.
  • Collymilad #17 3 years ago

    Nice.

Let's see the Wii destroy Dead Space.
  • dominalien #18 3 years ago

I wonder whether the media will be in an uproar (again) over DS destroying the "family friendly" image of the Wii. That said, I just might get a 2nd hand Wii when PZ4 comes out. I probably won't play DS a 4th time just to see what it looks like is SD, though.
  • Eraysor #19 3 years ago

I was also hoping for Mass Effect 2 this year. Still, it should be epic.
  • kinky_mong #20 3 years ago

I don't see why people are worried about the Wii Dead Space being a bad idea. The Wii is clearly capable of one-trick pony games with no atmosphere.
  • Shwing #21 3 years ago

    Battlefield Bad Company 2 ...

WOOHOO! Can't wait for this one. I still play the original on an almost daily basis.
Ranks as my favourite game of all time - and I have been gaming for 30+ years!

Did you ever play Battlefield 1942? Or Battlefield 2?
  • spookyzombie #23 3 years ago

What's the point? Nintendo have driven most of the people who would have bought this stuff away into the arms of a 360 or PS3. I know some of you you diehards will buy these games, but the majority of Wii owners will still be buying/attracted to games with 'Mario', 'Brain', and 'Fitness' in the title.

    Oh Really?
  • b00n #25 3 years ago

Battlefield BC 2?... I'm sure many would rather have BF3. Or just give us a remake of 1942 with the new gameplay elements of BF2 and new maps.
  • MoGamer2006 #26 3 years ago

So the Wii starts getting those 'proper' games you lot keep wanking on about, and you *still* moan? Jesus...

No the Wii gets a gimped version of the game.

Wow, i just read that dragon age isnt coming out untill the end of 2009 :(

I guess its being delayed until the console version is ready.
  • PameBoy #29 3 years ago

Dead Space Wii will be awesome. Dead Space + Wii controls á la Resi 4 = huge bag of win. All you retards citing Dead Rising are just being purposefully thick as pigshit and only half as useful. And you know it. Dead Rising is based on number of enemies onscreen, that's why the Wii version doesn't work. Dead Space is even less complex than Resi 4, apart from the shiny graphics. Besides, RE4: Wii edition is a better game overall than any version of Dead Space currently available. So shut the fuck up and be grateful that there are always great games being made for every system.

Oh, and I'm looking forward to ME2. Still haven't managed to pick up Bad Company but I'm meaning to.
  • Razorus #30 3 years ago

Oh come on! I've been waiting for Mass Effect 2 all this time, and you tell me 2010!? I thought Bioware was gonna release Mass Effect trilogy plus DLC during the course of the 360s life-span!
And the DLC sucked too. I thought they would progress the story, not branch it off. And to top it off, they're talking about a possible PS3 port?! I am soooo not a happy bunny today!
  • spookyzombie #31 3 years ago

The Wii should really come with an anchor to aid you with all the ports you'll visit while sailing aboard her ; \

    3rd person + over-the-shoulder-aiming + nunchuck-and-wiimote > beer + sex + sleep.

Edit: nah, I take that back. I've had some really good beer before.

Is Dead Space actually any good? I thought it was just supposed to be a 3rd person shooter with horror elements and a throwaway story; the main novelty being zero-G combat. Honestly I could give two shits about that on any platform. Get a story or fuck off!
  • kuzanagi #34 3 years ago

Is Dead Space actually any good?

I finished it for the first time over the weekend. It's a very enjoyable game, although I'd recommend setting it to "hard" to get the most out of it, otherwise you're swimming in ammo and the enemies aren't that threatening. Hard difficulty means that ammo is a lot more scarce, and the necromorphs are deadly.

As a whole, the plot is fairly derivative. It's certainly nothing new, but it's exceptionally well presented and will draw you in. It really finds its feet during the final third or so. I'd certainly recommend it.
  • FogHeart #35 3 years ago

    Yeah, it's good...

If this were a film then the reviews would say that it's acted and executed with enough panache to make you forgive - or even forget - that the script is shamelessly borrowing from lots of films gone before it and throwing it all together. The setting is very Event Horizon, the creatures are very The Thing, the combatt is quite RE4 (but better), the shops, upgrades and exploration are very System Shock 2 (I really think this team wanted to make an SS3 but settled into a new IP which simplified SS2's rig improvement).

If you say to yourself, Hang on, I like all of those, I can enjoy this, you'd be fine. And it's certainly good enough to make what would be cliches feel quite fresh. If you have a low level of tolerance for taking object A to place B and inerting it into slot C and being told that fixes the orbital stability, now you need to get the meteor cannons online in location D then let it go. But it works best if you concentrate on the fun this minute in front of you rather than the gestalt.
  • Sean.Aaron #36 3 years ago

I didn't like Event Horizon, but I do like the Thing. Shops, though? It's not you alone against the multitudes? Having objectives is a good thing as opposed to "find the key to get to the next section" a la Doom.

Of course if this isn't simply a port anything is possible as well...
  • PameBoy #37 3 years ago

Having objectives is a good thing as opposed to "find the key to get to the next section" a la Doom.

Well it does have objectives, but the objectives generally boil down to "find the key / hit the switch / get [machine X] working (which means bring item A to room B) to get to the next section". So in fact it's not a million miles - or even a hundred yards - away from Doom, but slower, with an improved version of RE4's combat. That's supposed to be a reccommendation, but take it as you will. I'm pretty sure this Wii version won't be a direct port, anyway, but I do think adding RE4 controls to the Dead Space formula is potentially a wondrous combination.
  • dominalien #38 3 years ago

    @kuzanagi

contains possible spoilers on game strategy

Actually, if one wants to get all the trophies/achievements, I'd recommend one plays the game on normal. After that, one can play on impossible and then a third time on normal again (to get the one gun, maxed out and whatever other trophies one is missing), which at this point is a joyride - a good thing considering I was getting a little bit bored at the time.
  • kuzanagi #39 3 years ago

@dominalien - That's a good idea. Trophies don't hold much sway for me though, and I rarely play through games like DS more than once. Good suggestion though.
