What a load of garbage. How exactly did Dead Space "evolve" the action/horror genre? It was the definition of generic and about safe as it comes, design-wise.

Eh? Horror games are what I play the most and DS was the most frightening game experiences I've had since SH2!

As for this, I doubt an on rails shooter will sway me to rebuy a Wii - even a DS one, I'd quite like to play some of these shooters but I can't justify another Wii for this and HOTD. Besides I want a proper gun controller, not the plastic wiimote holder things out now.

Hmmmm, surely the whole dismemberement affecting the enemies is new AbracadaverAK, before it was always cosmetic in games. For me as well It did evolve the RE4 gameplay into something actually scary...

Am I the only one who puts a big fat question mark next to the visuals that they are parading? It wouldn't be the first time EA did this. ¬_¬

Looks like a saturday morning cartoon character. Good luck convincing people that this isn't some cynical dumbed down cash-in.

And fully clothed? Not with that horrible miniskirt-like part and the pseudo garters painted on the legs.

Dead Space: Extraction is a guided first person experience - we have branching paths, areas of player controlled camera, zero-g, dismemberment, stasis, an array of unique weapons, TK, and a few other surprises that evolve the genre in many ways. Overkill was fun and, yes, it was a pure rail shooter. We have added so much to Extraction that comparisons to it should quickly fade away.

That sounds an awful lot like "HOTD:O terrifies us, we don't understand it at all."

If you're confident about your game, you know it's superior, you'd be happy to compare the two, you'd answer the question instead of dedicating the majority of your response to how fucking absolutely great your game is.

Someone should give these people a few lessons in basic English comprehension, as half the time they don't even answer the fucking question posed.

I wouldn't say Dead Space divided opinion - or if there was a divide it was between Eurogamer staff and everyone else. We put it top 10, metacritic gives it 89, and for Eurogamer it didn't make top 50 games of the year. We're not divided. You're just wrong.

I would have liked to see this guy answer the accusation that this game is bound to lack the depth that the first game had. A remake of the first game on Wii would be as enjoyable as the RE4 remake for the Wii - the control system makes it a brilliant experience.

Oh wait, that control system 'divided opinion' as well.

FogHeart- In this context, someones opinion cant be wrong. Its an opinion- a point of view. No one said it was true.
Personally I agree with the eurogamer review. I finished the game enjoyed it but I wasntblown away by the run shoot, push a button shoot, run mechanic. Again, an opinion.

As a side note, when the EA person said they have a secret female voice actor for the main character What are the bets its the lady who plays Cortana in Halo. Shes every female character in a game at the moment.

so let me get this straight. They're giving us an 8-12 hour long umbrella chronicles ripoff (which was a piece of shit itself). They're trying to do as little as possible to make themselves like house of the dead overkill (the best lightgun game on Wii) and instead are "revolutionising the genre with brand new features" like drop in co-op (which we've seen in every lightgun game ever)

Is anyone else annoyed by all of the HotD:Overkill worship? The interviewer seemed more interested in talking about it than in asking his interview subject about his game.

And then on this thread. EA's game will suck because it won't be like Overkill.

Folks, Overkill isn't that good. If I were in a good mood, I'd say it rates a 7. It's got 9 or 10 Presentation but only about "5" gameplay. EA deserves credit for trying to find other ways to make rails (or guided, or whatever) games interesting. Overkill also left room for improvement in technical performance. Graphics were adequate, but nothing special for a game of its kind. And itdid have a glitchy framerate that got in the way of achieving combos (the entire point of lightgun shooters like HotD).

I for one loved dead space on the 360.. and have high hopes that this will be something a "little more" than your standard on rails shooter.

Umbrella Chronicles is not a "piece of shit" and this game is clearly not going to be a generic lightgun game. I'm even more interested in this title than I was before, though I did get slightly annoyed at the repetition in the answers.

Go on. of the 10 comments above your post, please tell us which of them are 'full of xbox owners' saying that it won't be good because it's on the wii. All of them or none of them?

Seems like the guy answering the questions was doing his best to say a lot without really saying anything at all. I really hate PR-speak.

I would say that this game looks good, but I don't see any screenshots. I haven't played the first one either, so maybe I should try getting through that first.

True, and there's nothing wrong per se with the direciton they are taking, but its also true that the port of Resident Evil 4 showed how a full on Dead Space game could work on the machine as well just a shame EA didn't want to do that instead. Hardware limitations aren't an issue, RE4 even worked well on the PS2, just a case I suspect of a largely on rail game being cheaper and quicker to make at a high standard.

While I'm looking forward to what they come up with this, still feel its a shame they didn't seek to translate the third person into an original Wii title. They could've used it as a way of making a more measured puzzle, exploration and horror based variant spin off on the original with less combat ahead of Dead Space 2 for PC, 360 and PS3.

I played dead space on the 360 all the way through.. i'd say about 95% of it was a guided first person experience.. in that i was just following the same corridors they were forcing me down

EDIT: Apart from the zero G bits obviously... But then according to this - the wii version will have those too.

It certain;y broke new ground in the use of sound.

I still don't see how playing a violin sting every time an enemy appears is breaking new ground in sound.

Dead Space was a very underwhelming game for me with a story that was contrived, predictable and lacked any sort of sympathy for the protagonist.

@Smelly Give it a rest already, people are obviously talking about the control system, not the level design of Dead Space compared to the control system Extraction - seriously you're becoming just as bad as any other fanboys on this site.

I loved Dead Space, but I'm in the "didn't really do anything original" camp. It was very well executed, but it didn't really do anything that different (I question its original use of sound - some people just have short memories).

@Vertical Stand: smelly has a point. If a game allows free movement but forces a player forward via linear progression, then what difference does that really make in terms of gameplay? Add to the fact that it sounds like this game will have at least some degree of "free look" and it begs the question further.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog games spring to mind. Complete freedom of movement, but completely linear progression. If the player had not had the complete freedom of movement, the effect on gameplay would have been profound. Equally, if the progression had not been entirely linear, the effect would have also been profound.

Neither is more significant than the other, and we can't dismiss the freedom of movement discussed in DS:Wii just because the progression is linear (the overall progression in DeadSpace on other platforms was extremnely linear too overall).

And regardless, there is nothing wrong with an on-rails shooter if it is done well.
