Dead Space demos due this week

Xbox 360 tomorrow, PS3 on Thursday.

EA plans to offer a Dead Space demo tomorrow on Xbox Live and on Thursday from the PlayStation Store.

The sampler lets players use four of Isaac's mining tools-slash-weapons, as well as the telekinesis and stasis abilities.

There's no indication of how long the demo will be, but we expect there's enough of the evil-ridden Ishimura spaceship on show to help inform your buying decision.

Because Dead Space divided opinion; we thought the spooky space horror was fairly unexceptional, but some of you disagreed.

Head over to our Dead Space review to find out more.

  • gabsta69 #3 3 years ago

demo's are the best thing for these kinds of games, really will get people on board and take the plunge in actually buying a copy

Good news indeed. My purchasing marathon missed this first time through.

@Nick - GOW2 Gets going once the big stuff starts to appear. Until then it's a GOW extension.

Absolutely fantastic game. It has some minor quibbles sure, but there's so much to love.

  • Triggerhappytel #6 3 years ago

Good stuff indeed, I was wondering why there wasn't a demo of this up yet.

I'll look forward to giving this a try later in the week :)

    My GOTY as well, _Nick_

Fantastic, and a real shame it was released alongside games with better marketing. It deserved to wipe the floor with them.
  • AJUK #14 3 years ago

A fantastic game, finally finished it today, well worth every penny! The atmosphere is amazing!
  • frugtkompot #15 3 years ago

    That's about time!

Been trying to decide for a while whether I should take a chance on this game or not. Nice to finally have more than others opinion to base that decision on.
  • Fernando #16 3 years ago

nice, was on the fence on this
  • bad09 #17 3 years ago

Even though I've not finished it yet (only on chapter 4 right now) I've gotta agree with _Nick_, game of the year without a doubt!

Sure it's a shooter, with a lot to thank RE4 for ;), but it's such a visceral nerve shedding experience it's hard as a survival horror fan not to like it. It's hard to make a truly scary game, *cough* RE4 wasn't scary *cough*, and few pull it off well but DS is terrifying at first, even when you settle into the game you're still scared of opening each door! I love it so much I got the prequel movie which is quite good and recommended.

Hope the demo drums up more business for them as it's quite sad it sunk so quickly in the charts and doesn't deserve it and quite frankly I WANT DEAD SPACE 2!!!!!
  • pac666 #18 3 years ago

May seal the deal. Been very interested but demo will make decision.

  • vegard #22 3 years ago

didn't have much interest in this game, but the positive comments in this thread have persuaded me to try out the demo tomorrow:)
  • EzyRyder #23 3 years ago

I bought a 360 last week and this was the game that came with it and I have to say it is really good, really atmospheric and one of the best games I have played this year :)
  • Bulbatron #24 3 years ago

The game was very gppd, but I wa so disgusted with the downloadable content, that in a fit of pique, I got rid of it.
  • Albull #25 3 years ago

How long has the full game been out? A month? I can see you y'all disagree with me but if I'd played a demo I'd have known how meh it was to me.

All I'll say is it made be buy a copy of Res Evil 2 from ebay and is no where near any of the first 4 Silent Hill games.

And what about PC? Christ, would a little journalism hurt?

Uhm okay, so that's maybe not the best way to get attention, but you know, this happens a lot and it's both frustrating and disappointing.

gah... too many shooters... can't decide...

So... vote: Bioshock, Dead Space, Resistance 2, Mirror's edge (yeah, not shooter, but y'know) or wait for Killzone2?

    /brain explodes

Well to be fair the latest games in those actual series (SH:H & RE5) make me want to play the originals so it's unfair to say that just about DS ;)

is the gamestation £24.99 offer nationwide?
  • mashk #30 3 years ago

Bugger. I've installed COD WAW and GOW2 on my 360. There simply isn't any room left on my piffling 20GB hard-drive. Damn you Microsoft for your shortsightedness.

    @bad09

I dunno, Resi4 entertained me enough for a couple of playthroughs but I did have a bit more time on my hands to game back then as I was still living the student life.

DS seemed to me to get the atmosphere right whilst there were no monsters around. Then you walk into a room (decontamination room in the 2nd/3rd(?) chapter I'm looking at you) and you just go: "oh the doors will lock and I'll have to kill everything before they open again" and it used that trick too many times for my liking. Also scary things are frequently loud but loud does not equal scary.

Then again I don't play Resi2 because its scary, I play it because its farking awesome... Silent Hill, that was scary. F.E.A.R. had it's good moments also... aside from that I'm drawing blanks for decent 'horror' games recently.

I loved Dead Space (9/10 for me). But comparing it to Gears 2 and L4D i cant give it the GOTY title. Third place isnt bad either.

Gears 2 and L4D is better than all of those. Killzone 2 i cant say much about exept i doubth it will surpass those two. If it does i gladly buy a new PS3 to play it though.

    @ Albull

TBH I don't think I even finished RE4 completely, found it far too boring towards the end to finish, but I was expecting a RE game ;)

I know what you mean about the old "locked doors" routine (and know exactly the bit you describe) but I kind of like that old feeling of "S**t, I've got nowhere to go, enemies all around me and and only three rounds. ARRGGHHH!!!!!"

RE2 still had a little scare in it but you are right RE has always moved away from it's scary origins. but and yes it is still farking awesome!!
  • Albull #35 3 years ago

Not to get too picky about it but half my problem was the abundance of ammo (even on hard). I mean the first chapter was 'scary' when I didn't realise I could stamp on crates to get more ammo and thought I might actually care about the character but once I was stocked up and found the main char to have the personality of a lump of coal it lost all merit.
Seriously bad idea in my books to obscure the characters face for the whole game. I mean playing as Wall-E would have made me empathise more... actually thats not a bad idea.

Anyways to sum up, I just didn't find it compelling and trading it for Mirror's Edge was a fantastic decision.

Edit: actually thinking about it i suppose the 'locked in the room' trick might have worked had I cared about what I was doing. I was so unimmersed that I was thinking about how old the tricks the game was playing on me were.

That's fair enough Albull, you can't please all of the people all of the time. :)

You're right about ammo though, even on hard there is a lot (and of course you can buy as much as you like at stores) but at certain points along the way you do run low and panic (well I do anyway!)
