Dead Space 2 PC "under consideration"

Visceral focusing on PS3/360 for now.

Dead Space 2 may not be as dead in the water as reported.

"Visceral Studios is dedicated to delivering an outstanding Dead Space sequel for the Xbox 360 and PS3," an EA spokesperson told Eurogamer yesterday, adding, "A PC SKU is under consideration. Nothing additional at this time."

Earlier this week EA neglected to tick the PC box next to Dead Space 2 on its release schedule for investors, despite having originally announced the game for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

An EA rep subsequently said that a PC version was "not in the plan", but by the sound of it they haven't made their minds up.

Dead Space 2 puts players back in control of Isaac Clarke following his escape from the Event Horizon I mean Ishimura. This time he's on a space station called the Sprawl.

In addition to a big old single-player campaign, we're told to expect multiplayer - and by the sound of it that will be true for all EA games from now on.

I do hope they make it - the PC isn't exactly drowning under decent Survival Horror titles right now, with only the original Dead Space and Resident Evil 5 springing to mind.

A few folks critisised the original PC port, but I thought it was rather good. I was able to play the game maxxed out on my laptop, which is hardly high-end, and get constant 60fps. It all felt very optimised. It supported proper mouse control (just like people wanted from Resi), and gamepad support for those who prefer it.

Heard about this on the EA forum last night. Good news....well better news. Good news will be when they do confirm it!

Come on EA I love the new you, don't make me go back to hating by denying me the sequel to one of my favourite games in years. I was thinking about this yesterday after the bad news, I have completed Dead Space 3 times and about to start a 4th play on PC (come on impossible mode you wimp I can take ya!), I cannot think of a game I loved that much to play through again and again since the real resi games!

    /must supress ResE5 comment

    I CAN'T DO IT

Are you seriously suggesting Res5 was anywhere near the quality of the fantastic Dead Space? The very suggestion makes me so mad I want to punch Winne the Pooh.

As long as a strong SP is the focus of the game then i'm waiting with my cash in-hand, i've no interest in MP for this game. None at all.

I picked up on that to but thought best to leave it :)

    Hug a necromorph today.

You're right about the survival/horror line-up on PC, it's pretty packed right now.
It'll probably go the way of the Assassin's Creeds and GTA's and Alan Wakes of the world, and get a delayed release on the PC. I'll buy it when it's out and that's it, no big deal; I haven't even touched my copy of Dead Space 1 yet - see, PC games are so cheap these days I have a huge backlog that goes right back to early 2007.
I saw a necromorph hugging a PC once; both species seem to get along just fine.

Sadly the days of seeing top end, exclusive releases like crysis etc are over.

PC Exclusives (as far as I know) that I thought of straight away when reading that, Im sure there are a lot more :
    Diablo 3
    Startcraft 2
    Stalker Call of Pripyat
    Rfactor 2
    iRacing

(you probably haven't heared of the last two, but both damn fine racing sims)

As I keep on saying (don't know why I bother) PC gaming is no where near dead. Sure things are changing with the platform, but I certainly don't feel like I don't have enough games to play.

EA, I would pre-order Dead Space 2 right now if you allowed it on Steam.

Really not liking the way that publishers refuse to "speak their brain" on this sort of thing. You get an announcement that makes it look like they're thinking one thing and then they totally contradict it with the next. I think it's time the industry grew some balls and either opens or closes doors rather than leaving them ajar like this, we see it with just about every third party exclusive whether it be a full game or an expansion. I'm sure the PC fans of Dead Space would prefer to know whether or not the game will actually come to PC rather than being told "there are no plans at the moment"

@FooAtari, I admire your attempt to counter the argument, but I've given up now. The "PC gaming is dead" argument is as prevalent and as wrong as the "PS3 has no games" one, and it's just become kind of pointless trying to debate it.
  • bad09 #12 2 years ago

    @ignatiusjreilly

Hopefully the tracking of PC downloads will shut up the "PC is dead" people. Not sure when that starts but it will start this year.

Ok, ok, we all understand where you're coming from, we've all been there, man. Just let the bear go! We can fix this.

    @bad09

It’s not dying per se, it’s just with multiplatform games publishers need to weigh up the cost of porting the game to the PC (and marketing it etc) vs. the actual sales that it makes. I wouldn't be surprised if Dead Space wasn't one of those games that only sold "ok" on PC which is why there was all this talk of dropping it.

Also I wouldn't be at all surprised if gaming on PC started to hark back to way it was in the early 90s where you either had PC games or console games, and never the twain did meet.

EDIT: My spelling isn't normally that shoddy, honest! :)

@kangarootoo - No, I was using it as an example of a survival horror on the PC. As a massive fan old 'old style' Resi, I share your negativity (perhaps not to quite an extreme degree).

"Also I wouldn't be at all surprised if gaming on PC strated to hark back to way it was in the early 90s where you either had PC games or console games, and never the twain did meet."

Yeah but if that happens you'd see the current PC base shrink I reckon. Many went off to consoleland for the games, with HDTV and the windows controller PC is also getting those games now and slowly bringing people back to the fold. It'd be a shame to go back to square one. Besides it would mean back to expensive console gaming :(

To all the muppets saying about pc gaming be dead, go tell ATI and Nvidea then sure they also do things like the Quattro range but there main area is GAMING cards.

Also you might want to let valve know also iam sure there to busy rolling around in steam covered money then of course there is blizzard who frankly dwarf any console developers.

If something is not fincially doable companys dont tend to hang around it for long as they only care for money, there are plenty of PC Gaming only companys.

Have to comment on the RE 5 bashing. I own and have played through both games and thought RE 5 > Dead Space. Dead Space grew a bit tedious and the mute main character is a pet peeve of mine. Plus the RE 5 story was quite good if you bother to read the library entries. Add to that co-op, bleeding edge graphics, and the Mercenaries mode... what's not to love (besides the clunky inventory system of course)?
