    mmmmm... zombie pictures taste good.

I've seen these screens already so I'll comment on them anyway:

Resident Evil 4 engine they say? Look up some RE4 screens on this very website and compare them to this (the prerendered cutscene shots don't count). What the fuck, Capcom, what the fuck.

    It's all gone brokenised.

    Edit: oh, NOW it works.

Whoops! Comedy host of errors from me there. Should be all sorted now.
  • mazzl #7 4 years ago

    looks crap.
but if the gameplay works, that's all that counts!
  • consignia #8 4 years ago

My god, it looks like a playstation game.
  • gaselite #9 4 years ago

Blah. This looks awful. Why would you bother?
  • Greebo #10 4 years ago

Put about 300 more zombies in that Mall and maybe it'll be a bit better...

  • Ranger101 #11 4 years ago

As long as you can bloody move and shoot at the same time. Apparently in Resi Word, retracting your index finger renders your legs immobile.

Either that or they're too stupid to shoot and move.
  • wingzerosys #12 4 years ago

Why waste time porting Dead Rising to the wii (it looks shocking btw), make DR 2 already.
  • Bartacus #13 4 years ago

Just don't bother porting any proper games to the Wii, its just cannot hack it & they look poor.

Stick to mini games & Mario romps as thats all the Wii can manage.

  • Genji #14 4 years ago

"Blah. This looks awful. Why would you bother?"

It starts with "m-" and ends with "-oney".

Considering how many zombies are on the screen at once in the X360 version, I have to say that I'm impressed they could do this on the Wii, even with the scaled-back graphics.

I think something like this should be designed for the Wii from the ground up, though, and not just be a port. But hey, it could still be a whole lot of fun. Probably will be, in fact.
  • ChthonicEcho #15 4 years ago

Sure, port Dead Rising onto a console that can't handle the immense amount of zombies and good graphics, but don't port it onto a PC that might potentially even top the X360 version (coughGearsofWarcoughMassEffectcoughDevilMayCry4). Brilliant logic, there.

i think in general gamers must be the whiniest group of people in the entire world, bitching and moaning about EVERYTHING. every single thread about anything game related is exactly the same

wow the grpahics really have been fucked

would be good to play it from the res4 perspective though
  • gaselite #18 4 years ago

It starts with "m-" and ends with "-oney".

My question was addressed to consumers, not publishers.
  • syphaa #19 4 years ago

Why did they not spend the development time on...

    [A] Adding co-op to existing 360 title
    Doing a Dead Rising 2

Looks ropey, it sounds good in theory for the Wii, but the game doesnt have that many weapons that will benefit from the motion control.
  • Garulon #20 4 years ago

Do they have any screenshots with more than eight zombies in it?
  • chrisjm #21 4 years ago

'i think in general gamers must be the whiniest group of people in the entire world, bitching and moaning about EVERYTHING. every single thread about anything game related is exactly the same '

    stop moaning

I think there's several million people who'd disagree with you that Mario Galaxy isn't a 'proper' game.

That said, I don't think this is particularly suited to the console; the Wii has some fantastic games, but they're great because they play to the consoles strengths. And rendering thousands of zombies isn't one of those.

Do they have any screenshots with more than eight zombies in it?

Looks poor visually. even for a wii game :(
  • CaptianScarlet #24 4 years ago

Just looked back at the screenshots for the 360 one and it's fair to say that the wii version does indeed look slightly more ass than the ass looking 360 version :)

I'm not picking sides, I just think that even the 360 version looks barely better than a PS2 game. both look rubbish compared to whats on the 360 now. Looks like the Resi4 engine is good at very linear corridor style games, not so good at open environment sandbox games.

Still often graphics don't make a game good. I mean look at Assassins Creed!!
  • Vin #25 4 years ago

    Don't talk shit.

DR on the 360 looked astonishing.
  • andywilkie35 #26 4 years ago

    looks absolutely terrible
  • IneptPercy #27 4 years ago

' I just think that even the 360 version looks barely better than a PS2 game.'

You must be having a laugh, yes 360 games have surpassed it, but it looks a lot better than any PS2 game. If your not playing in HD the difference may be less but still it comes down to sheer numbers of zombies on the 360.

I hope this Wii version does work, but I just can't see it being as good as the 360 version.

  • Thunderhead #29 4 years ago

Are wii owners blind or something? They'd have to be to play that ugly mess....
  • Katsumoto #30 4 years ago

Who fucking cares, Dead Rising was brilliant for many reasons, and OMG HI-TECH GRAPHICS wasn't one of them.

As to "why bother", believe it or not, some people don't own a 360, but would like to play this game! I am among those people, having only had a chance to play this fleetingly, but loving it (just not enough to spend 150 quid on). I think it looks like it's coming along nicely.
  • samk #31 4 years ago

"Do they have any screenshots with more than eight zombies in it?"

That's hit the nail on the head. Regardless of what it looks like visually in terms of textures, lighting, etc (which does look woeful it has to be said), all these pictures suggest the Wii version won't have anywhere near the amount of zombies onscreen that the 360 version did. The sheer number of zombs was kinda the whole point. Going down into the underground tunnels and seeing a mere dozen zombs slothing around will be shit, frankly.
  • redneon Verified Programmer, SUMO Digital #32 4 years ago

"Who fucking cares, Dead Rising was brilliant for many reasons, and OMG HI-TECH GRAPHICS wasn't one of them. "

No, but hundreds of zombies being rendered simultaneously was.
  • Katsumoto #33 4 years ago

Well, one of them has 18 zombies in ;) That's more than 8!
  • CallousB #34 4 years ago

Fact is RE4 looked 10 times better than this on the GC (in both characters and environments) and that managed 10 very good quality zombies on screen at once.

There's no reason this game couldn't look RE4 quality and have an extra 20-30 good quality zombies using the Wii's extra power....other than extreme laziness.
  • Genji #35 4 years ago

"My question was addressed to consumers, not publishers."

Well, maybe they own a Wii and not an X360? And maybe the graphics won't turn them off that much?

    /shrugs
  • jlaakso #36 4 years ago

Oh my that looks horrible. Still, I'm happy that the game is getting more publicity, because supposing it's ported intact, it's one of the more unique games of the last few years.
  • Nithron #37 4 years ago

As long as you can bloody move and shoot at the same time. Apparently in Resi Word, retracting your index finger renders your legs immobile.

Either that or they're too stupid to shoot and move.

I know it's just a videogame, but seeing as we're apparently talking about realism here - have you ever tried shooting a gun and running at the same time with any degree of accuracy? It doesn't really work. That's why you never see any real footage of people firing a gun from anything other than a stationary position.
  • afghan_jones #38 4 years ago

    it looks horrible.

like doom2 levels of eye gouging pixel jaggies.

Plus can someone ring Capcom and tell them they forgot to put most of the zombies in.
  • Mr_Bison #39 4 years ago

only 4 pixels on that screen.... Lame fest
  • MaxiSleep #40 4 years ago

I think they have captured the look an feel of the last generation perfectly. Another brave triumph.
  • redneon Verified Programmer, SUMO Digital #41 4 years ago

"only 4 pixels on that screen...."

And two of those are zombies!
  • bigbadbeasty #42 4 years ago

    Graphically it looks surprisingly good.

Unsurprisingly the 360 police are getting there knickers in a twist- Shock horror, they are bitching about graphics... again. Probably play quite well, hopefully they will not repeat the silly respawning in the 360 version.
  • rudedudejude #43 4 years ago

Have you ever tried running and shooting a pistol accurately? I'm glad resi went for the realism approach of that.

Shame the controls sucked, eh EG...

Hopefully DR can do better control wise...
  • wingzerosys #44 4 years ago

I was expecting a ps3 port, not a shoddy disgusting mess with Dead Rising written on it.

How's it gonna play? You had to pick up anything to fight off the Zombies, im sorry but using the res 4 engine is plain wrong.

The wii had trouble running No More Heroes, that had framerate stutters, imagine it trying to play DR.
    Edited by wingzerosys at 22/07/08 @ 14:48
  • Darren #45 4 years ago

This game doesn't look as awful as expected but I've no interest in buying a game I already own on the 360 just for some gimmicky motion-controls. Nice that other people will get the chance to play this neat-o game though.

/starts to wonder where all the original Wii games have gone...
  • mexalen #46 4 years ago

wow ... you can only hope that this is somekind of alpha-version... 'you' refering to the poor fellows without a 360 where the game looked awesome.

    Oh, and DR2 plz.
  • mexalen #47 4 years ago

special thanks to Mr_Bison and Redneon ... awesome conversation!

"only 4 pixels on that screen...."

And two of those are zombies!

  • septimus #48 4 years ago

Shame it could only render about 10 zombies max per refresh.

Looks as though it could be fun, but stick with the 360 version me thinks.
  • Tweakmonkey #49 4 years ago

This looks like a great DS game. Oh wait...
  • YenRug #50 4 years ago

So, why are the people who obviously own a 360 complaining about the graphics in this Wii version? Shouldn't they be busy playing the apparently amazing looking 360 version, rather than complaining about a version they're probably never going to touch?
  • Mr_Brown #51 4 years ago

So I take it we won't be seeing a Dead Rising 2 for a while then? sigh...

This is obviously an attempt to reach more consumers in Japan who didn't get this because it was on the 360. Looks ok, but obviously inferior to 360 version. I wouldn't mind if it wasn't delaying a sequel! I really want to play this game in some sort of multiplayer co-op mode!
  • CallousB #52 4 years ago

"The wii had trouble running No More Heroes, that had framerate stutters"

If a game has framerate stutters it's entirely the fault of those who made the game..not the fault of the hardware. There are far better looking Wii (and gamecube) games that manage to run smoothly.
  • Tardie #53 4 years ago

Never judge a book by its cover.

I am sure Wii owners will love it.

Its not about graphics at the end of the day!
  • Kryon #54 4 years ago

GLOL! No, please, stop it! 1995 called and wants its graphics back. Wiilol!
  • Nithron #55 4 years ago

I know graphics aint important, but that's not really what everyone's complaining about. They're complaining that there's like, 20 zombies maximum on any one of those screens, in areas that have over 100 in the Xbox version.

You do realise the whole point of the game was to have a lot of zombies onscreen at once, right? It's like having a Halo game without any guns.
  • smelly #56 4 years ago

    1. It's NOT a direct port of the 360 title.. it's a brand new game based in the same "world"
    2. I own the 360 version - love it.. One of my favouritist games of this gen.. And i'll buy this too if it's any good
    3. I wish 360 owners who sit their poised on their keyboards waiting for a wii screenshot to appear so they can tell us how shit it is.. would just FUCK RIGHT OFF!
  • itsameandy #57 4 years ago

Theres a few screenshots showing alot of zombies on IGN at the mo'. Crappy looking mind.
  • mandeep100 #58 4 years ago

man this looks piss poor compared the 360 version. the wii should just stick to games that are made ground up for itself the difference in power between the the 360 and wii is simply just too much
    Edited by mandeep100 at 23/07/08 @ 02:39
  • Kryon #59 4 years ago

Stop it guys, smelly's going to cry if you keep laughing at his favourite toy.
  • Der_tolle_Emil #60 4 years ago

Actually I think it looks rather impressive. Of course it's nowhere near the 360 version but taking into account the hardware it's running on that's not surprising. I also don't know why the game shouldn't be fun just because it doesn't look as good as the 360 version, since when is that a criteria? Like every 360 game is better than all the PS2 games just because they look better...

Looking forward to this, I really loved the game on the 360, one of the best games that were released during the last 2 or 3 years.
  • CaptianScarlet #61 4 years ago

    @Vin

"Don't talk shit. DR on the 360 looked astonishing."

You are entirely entitled to your opinion as I am to mine mate :)

    Welcome to the free world!
  • smelly #62 4 years ago

    The way i see it..

Go back and watch Terminator 2.. It's special effects are CRAP nowadays.. and easy to replicate on even crappy hardware.

But yet the movie itself is still great.

See special effects/graphics/etc are only PART of the experience.. if the gameplay is still in tact.. it'll still be fun.

And I for one (as a lover of the 360 version) like the idea of a new game in the same universe with "wii resi 4" aiming (I *hate* aiming on analog sticks!)
  • smelly #63 4 years ago

I cant see how you can tell how many skins there are based on a handful of screenshots...

Nor can i see how the number of skins shown has any effect on how the thing .. you know.. plays?
