Dead Rising beheading to Wii?

Japanese reports suggest so.

Capcom may be planning to bring zombie slaughterer Dead Rising to Wii.

That's according to Japanese magazine Famitsu (translated by Kotaku), which claims this is a port of the Xbox 360 version, and has some character artwork to go with it.

It seems rather improbable given the technical implications of it all, and Xbox 360 to Wii ports are not something we tend to see. However, Dead Rising had minimum exposure in Japan two years ago; a problem unlikely to manifest on Wii given its popularity in the region.

There's no footage or shots of Dead Rising Wii yet, or any word on it heading West. We remain intrigued.

Originally released in September 2006 exclusively on Xbox 360, Dead Rising scored a respectable 8/10, with Tom moved to describe it as "the epitome of survival horror."

Best zombie game ever. Would prefer news on Dead Rising 2 for 360 though.

It will be like dead rising, only with 4 zombies instead of 400 ;-)

Well, if RE4 is anything to go by, it's entirely doable... hell, they downgraded it for the PS2 to get a wider audience, why not do the same with Dead Rsing?

It's not as if this is the first time Capcom have done this...
  • muscleblade #5 4 years ago

400 zombies? That sounds like the Wii version. The 360 version had thousands.

Mmmh, I guess it's possible, but it's probably gonna look like dynasty warriors, with a very small drawing distance and lots of pop-up. Why no PS3 version?
  • Ghost_Dog #7 4 years ago

A Wii version sounds like a waste of time.

A PS3 version please Capcom, and none of that Lost Planet conversion crap. We all know you can do it, don't be lazy.

Besides, what fun is it if you don't get rewarded for the subquests?

    A waste of time??!!

If you can't see how great zombie Wiimote slaughter could be, then I pity you.

Dead Rising + Wii RemotePlus = slicing and dicing zombies like never before.

    Match made in heaven!
  • CallousB #12 4 years ago

There are scans. It has Resident Evil 4 style over the shoulder pointer aiming..so Eurogamer will hate it :D.

Obviously there won't be as many zombies..but I guess they will be powered up a bit.

Seeing how horrid Alone in the Dark translated onto the Wii, I'm really not expecting this Wii version of Dead Rising to anything better than passable. How will the Wii cope with dozens of zombies on screen at once? Perhaps the game will turn out to be an onrails shooter akin to those (awful) Resident Evil Survivor games? Having enemies in fixed locations and making the game on-rails would certain by do-able on the Wii I'd imagine.
  • Bluetribe #14 4 years ago

Looking forward to this, considering this is Capcom this should be a quality port, although I'd much rather see a RE2 Remake or new game based on RE5.
Lol @ brining Alone in the Dark into this...

yeh i don't think you should use alone in the dark as any kind of indication of what's the wii is or isn't capable of... why not say "seeing how awesome RE4 turned out on wii, this should be ace"? look on the positive side for once...

"How will the Wii cope with dozens of zombies on screen at once?"

If the GC can cope with 10-12 in RE4 then the Wii should cope with a few dozen.Won't be as many as 360 but a fair few. I suspect they will split some sections/add additional doors so more zombies can stream in as others are killed.

Odd platform choice considering that a PC version would be much easier to do. Seems there are already screens available. Check these scans:

Together with Sega's Mad World we're looking at some sweet ultraviolence on the Wii;-)

Yeah I checked the scans earlier as it was posted on Kotaku, I think it's looking good and a few pics show a decent amount of zombie mobs. It's funny that the graphical limitations actually make the environments look more gritty which I think is a plus.
  • andywilkie35 #19 4 years ago

on the wii, this will be terrible
  • Kami #20 4 years ago

Yeah, have to say even though that doesn't look as glossy, I don't doubt it'll be a riot and a half! And as for the technical aspects, Capcom are usually very very good at this stuff, so there is hope for Dead Rising Wii being actually pretty damn decent.

But yeah, the third parties and jumping in now. About time too...
  • Oh-Bollox #21 4 years ago

"Seeing how horrid Alone in the Dark translated onto the Wii..."

AITD is shite on all consoles. Just because the port to Wii was shoddy doesn't mean the other versions were great. They weren't. They were shite.
  • bitesize #22 4 years ago

scans look pretty decent. some RE4 style pointer aiming, coupled with some motionplus fuelled sword swishing, could be brilliant. could also be quite shite, will wait and see on this one...

  • Katsumoto #23 4 years ago

I really hope this is good. I've wanted a PC port since it came out on the 360, this will have to do in lieu of anything on that front.
  • Skeletor #24 4 years ago

    @ andywilkie35
You sure mean terrible as in terribly good;-)
Seriously, every Capcom game on the Wii was pretty good so far. I can't see Capcom delivering anything else than another good product.
On the other hand, a souped up PC version (like DMC 4) would still be ace.
  • Doctor_What #25 4 years ago

Will they make it less bloody annoying this time? And the fonts readable? I do hope so.
  • kinky_mong #26 4 years ago

Wonder if all those casual gamers will enjoy the mandatory three restarts because they weren't powered up enough to deal with a boss battle in a tight time limit.

  • aniki Verified Web Developer, YoYo Games Ltd #27 4 years ago

Like a lot of people I'd have preferred Dead Rising 2, but maybe this will get Capcom the cash to continue the series, even if it's not on 360.
  • CaoSlayer #28 4 years ago

Considering that the ps2 can handle 65,000 creatures on-screen (demon chaos), I guess that the wii can handle a couple of hundred of zombies.

Seems like if capcom has discovered some tricks for the wii, first was monster hunter 3 and now dead rising.
  • drumbaby #29 4 years ago

All we need is Onimusha 5 on Wii, and then, along with Mhunter 3 and Dead Rising we have all the proof we need that Capcom have lost the plot.
  • smelly #30 4 years ago

    OMFG!!

    Best game EVER!

Shame i already own it on 360.. But i'll have a wank to celebrate anyhow.
  • smelly #31 4 years ago

"Oh and the best part about FF going multi was watching the Sony fanboy's virtual screams almost imploding the internet. "

I *STILL* dont get this.. They STILL are able to play it on THEIR machine so why make such a fuss? Fanboys are weird. If mario galaxy went multiplatform i'd be cheering - it'd mean more people get to see what a good game is (as opposed to only buying shooters, etc)

"400 zombies? That sounds like the Wii version. The 360 version had thousand"

The cpu power on the wii is quite powerful.. it's the graphics which arent up to much cop.. i dont see why you couldnt have (in THEORY) the same number of monsters, etc etc.. just with lower res/toned down graphics (which again in turn gives you more cpu time to spend doing other things)
  • Kami #32 4 years ago

Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy are certainly not old-school platformers. They're very polished platformers and I still don't get why people have such issues with them - I find them to be the pinnacle of their genre.

But the point of the Wii was to not alienate the core gamer audience. Nintendo did their bit so far. And they've done it well. This and MadWorld suggest that now it's time the third-parties came in and flexed some muscle, because most haven't bothered so far to apply much effort.

I guess it's getting hard to ignore the install base of the Wii...

Are you sure? Because last time I checked the wii had a single core unit cpu clocked at 729 MHz while the 360 is using a significantly more powerful triple core one.
My guess is they will reduce the numbers of zombies but at the same time come up with some some really cool motion sensing controls which considering the amount of different weapons make very much sense here - think of it as Wii sports meets survval horror;-)
However, if the wii version turns out to be a success the probability for a (multiplatform) DR2 will be even higher.

    PC Version please Capcom.
Can you imagine this game with mods?
  • smelly #35 4 years ago

    >729 MHz

    Mhz means bugger all.

Which car will get to their destination quicker? one driving 70 mph for 10 miles or one driving 30mph for 1 mile?

  • smelly #36 4 years ago

@JSPOOLE: That's like saying (insert shooter name here) is the same as operation wolf.. as it's just pointing cursor at the screen and shooting...
  • Browntracky #37 4 years ago

Over the shoulder shooting like Res 4. Come on, just give us Res 5. I will buy this though. Gesture based frying pan to zombie face. Back devil!!!
  • Bander #38 4 years ago

    Smelly: "Mhz means bugger all."

Both the 360 and Wii use IBM Power PC chips, so it's fair to say that a 3.2GHz one is more powerful than a 729MHz one.
  • Skeletor #39 4 years ago

    @smelly

    "Mhz means bugger all. "

Haha, yeah right;-) Why don't you just accept that you don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about here.
A higher clocked triple core cpu is not only more powerful, it's simply a different league.
Whether DR on the 360 really used this potential is a different question so it remains to be seen what kind of programming magic Capcom comes up with for the Wii version...
My guess is that they're using a highly optimized RE4 engine and are going to make up the lack of massive amounts of zombies with spot on controls and less frustrating design.
Still, a modable PC version would be a dream! You hear me, Capcom;-)
