Dead Rising 2 may not have multiplayer

Tech producer withdraws GDC comment.

In what's becoming something of a trend, Capcom has now withdrawn a statement made about Dead Rising 2 multiplayer at GDC.

Laura Scholl, producer on the game's Mental Mill technology, told IGN overnight that she had meant to say "multiplatform" and not "multiplayer".

Originally the site - and others - reported that Scholl spoke of having 6000 characters on-screen during multiplayer sessions.

"In my 'During the Dead Rising 2' presentation at GDC this past Friday, while I was describing how Blue Castle is using mental mill technology in character development, I mistakenly referred to the game as multiplayer instead of multiplatform. I apologise for the confusion," Scholl said.

So does Dead Rising 2 have multiplayer? Capcom had no comment when we made contact this morning. We hope so though!

I hope it has some kind of co-op mode, but I also hope they don't skimp on the single player to get the multiplayer up to scratch. I don't was Dead Rising 2 turning into a Resi 5 style game where it's practically impossible to play the game in anything but co-op.

    well 2 is a trend i suppose...

silly 'mistake' , my guess is they just wanted to see how the public reacted and then tack it on or not:-)

So he meant "that the technology allowed for players to see as many as 6000 characters on-screen during multiplatform"? That doesn't even make sense! Must be horrendously taken out of context in the first place I think. Doesn't surprise me with IGN.

It will have multiplayer. Capcom have showed a willingness to be in with the latest craze of making all games co-op (whether that's good or bad is up to you), so it clearly will, or I'll eat my hat. I have no hat, so lets assume cheeseburgers are my usual cranial attire.

    Deadrising 2 is gonna bomb!
  • GamesConnoisseur #5 3 years ago

I wish to withdraw my recent comment re the game bombing when obviously I believe it to be otherwise and want to add that I m indeed looking very much forward to the game and have added it to my most wanted!

    @DFawkes:

    2000 zombies per platform. Solved!
    ;-)
  • phatb0y #7 3 years ago

    Of course it'll have it...

    Later on.

And you can pay extra for it.
  • mrmonkey1980 #8 3 years ago

They would be mad not to make it multiplayer. It is what everyone wanted for the first one.
  • penhalion #9 3 years ago

Like I said. How were they planning to sync 6000 zombies over a network!

Sheesh it seems that along with dumbing down science subjects, schools also don't teach common bloody sense.
  • chrisjm #10 3 years ago

    how to sync 6000 zombies?
you dont. you only need to worry about the ones in view of players. the rest exist but arent syncd until in close proximity.
  • DB2k #11 3 years ago

    it will be DLC imo.
  • penhalion #12 3 years ago

    @chrisjm

So your idea of co-op or multiplayer is that everyone in the game is in the same place at the same time?

    phuleeeeaassee!
  • Razorus #13 3 years ago

It has to have multiplayer! There's no way Capcom can miss an opportunity like this again. Lost Planet 2 has co-op, Resi5 has co-op, there's no reason this shouldn't.

And does that comment even make sense, if she had said multiplatform?
  • Entity #14 3 years ago

I hope there is no multi-player. When I want to get away from peeps I don't want to play a single-player game which has a slapped-on multi aspect, which, results in nivites from people I just don't care about.
  • Trigga_Tybalt #15 3 years ago

mental mill? more like mental ill after that slip-up!

Dead Rising doesn't need multiplayer. It just needs more zombie slaying action. The first game was incredibly fun and remains one of the best games for the 360. The zombie theme might put some people off, but if you can't appreciate how awesome that game is there is something wrong with you. Persistent game clock, parallel missions, well modeled and interactive environment, good use of secondary gameplay elements (photography), etc.
