DDO level cap raised, features added News

MMO PC News by Robert Purchese

8 April, 2009

Turbine has unveiled the enormous list of changes arriving in the Module 9 update for Dungeons & Dragons Online.

Chief among them is the rise in the level cap to 20, which, in turn, introduces new top-level feats and abilities for the seven classes: Barbarian, Bard, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer and Wizard. Adventurers will also be able to explore the plane of Shavarath and face off against the Devil legions. Only raids of 12 will survive and stand a chance at the loot.

On top of that are chat improvements, a remodelled marketplace, capstone enhancements, better targeting and combat feedback and much more.

This, wrote new DDO executive producer Fernando Paiz on the official forum, is much more than a routine update.

"It represents a major investment as we prepare the game for future growth," he says. "We know it's been a long wait and we thank you for your patience and support. We've worked hard to make DDO even better and are gearing up for an aggressive push to grow the game in 2009!

"This is only the beginning of many great things which are planned for DDO this year!"

Dungeons & Dragons Online faces off against another MMO old-timer, Guild Wars, in the next round of our Ten Level Test. It's an uphill battle, but the dice may roll in Turbine's favour. We'll see.

I didn't know anyone was still playing the game. I really liked this game, pretty deep for an MMO, but in the end it requred a little too much commitment: full parties of players well-versed in D&D rules, or the XP curve got way too slow.

They had a free welcome back week not long ago. I was really looking forward to it and had the client downloaded and installed weeks before in anticipation.

Got to the night it was all due to kick off and realised I had forgotten my password. No problem, I'll click on the lost password button... "Password reset only lasts 15 minutes, please check your email and act quickly".

Next afternoon, email arrives about 12 hours after it expired. Uninstall, delete.

I can't believe this is still around. Over a year ago I gave the 7 day trial a go, and during that time I've seen maybe 5 people roaming the streets. Compared to Tabula Rasa that's a LOT less. I did enjoy the game, but I reckoned it was dying, apparently I was wrong.

I love D&D, but WotC/Turbine really fucked up with forcing their new Eberron campaign setting on everyone.

It should have been Forgotten Realms from day 1. LOTORO wouldn't have even made it off the ground if they had. Anyone who played the Baldur's Gate series knows exactly what I'm talking about.

As far as I'll always be concerned D&D:FR or GW's Warhammer is the alpha and omega of traditional sword and sorcery fantasy universes. Lord of the Rings maybe have laid the groundwork, but it had been outdone nearly 40 years ago now by D&D, and Warcraft's universe is like the teen-pop version of Warhammer's world.

Hello.

Of course the game is not dying :). It fact, it's in great shape now, after Module 8 with hirelings, New Player Experience (whole new low-level island) and recent 3rd Anniversary. In fact, when Mod 9 comes out, I think this game will receive a major influx of players. It happens even now, but Mod 9 is going to be a really major change. Number of UI and gameplay tweaks is stunning, seems like all UI features from other MMOs + some DDO unique (as always) will be included.

I play on DDO EU and let me tell you this game and community is great. I really recommend you try it now. If you never played it, or it was long ago, you'll be amazed how this game differs from others and how much quality it holds. I've played almost every major MMO out there, along with some more niche ones (starting with UO and text Muds long ago). Left WoW for this game, as WoW clones are boring to me for years... they hardly differ and are slow as hell in compare with DDO ; ). Even Age of Conan couldn't buy me out from this game, as it's just like watered-down DDO.

There is direct download link, you don't need to download from file planet.
