(Update #2: And they're all gone! Congratulations to everyone who got one, and remember that if you missed out you can take part when the beta goes live to all on the 28th, or if you already own the Dawn of War expansion Soulstorm.)

If you find your interest piqued by our hands-on impressions of the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II multiplayer beta today and can't wait until the 28th January general release, you might want to clear a block of time this weekend.

That's because THQ has given us 3,000 beta keys to pass on to you, and we'll be doing so on Saturday afternoon at 3pm GMT.

The beta, which is currently open to people who bought Dawn of War expansion Soulstorm, allows you to play as any of the game's four races across five multiplayer maps, with matchmaking courtesy of Games for Windows Live's TrueSkill system.

The full game is due out for PC on 20th February in Europe. Look out for our review in the coming weeks.

I'm tempted to stick on and F5 at 3pm to get one, just to stop a betard getting one, but I won't, since some regs usually miss out.

But us Soulstorm owners can get it right now on Steam In case you avoid the Forums, just go to the "My Games" page, click "Activate a Product on Steam", stick in your retail key, and away you go! As a bonus, this lets you get the Steam version of Soulstorm so you can play without the disc, though I'm not sure if that's permenant.

Ill pop in here just to mention that if you do intend to actually play this online with other people make sure your computer can actually handle the game. That or lower the settings so its running smoothly.

I just quit a game in progress because a team-mate was lagging and I quote the game here "His settings are too high for his system". It made the game unplayable.

Open this page, the code is fairly advanced (you'll have seen it in use during the Livetext interview yesterday) and updates without the need for refreshing.

And that'll be at 3pm, so turn up at 2:55ish to ensure you get a key. Any questions, I'm sure any regular EGer should be able to help

I ll be also glad to join the community and help Relic to build a better DOW II !!

Hopefully the 3000 extra users will help Relic to find any bugs/issues, rather sooner than later and reduce the time needed for the first patch.
The first patch was expected to pop in, fairly early (in the 1st few weeks), but since the launching day has moved closer, an extra help, may become handy...

Just to clear up some confusion - there is an open beta starting on the 29th. That means ANYONE can join it. These keys that eurogamer have will enable people to get in the beta as of today.

In response to apothecary's post - there's a day 0 patch when the game goes live that will fix any exploits/serious bugs found by beta testers. I doubt it will have many balance changes that early though.

I'm skeptical towards how well this will turn out so it would be good to get into this!

I've heard a lot of people say it isn't as good as DoW 1 and a lot of people who says it's better. Guess it's just you love it or you hate it.

Christ though what a time for my Steam to bugger up, It's taking forever to do anything. I was downloading at 200KB/s then I had to restart Steam and it's updating Steam but taking ages.

The key works in Steam and I was able to download and install the game just fine but when I try to play it some stupid Games For Windows Live nonsense tells me that the key is 'invalid'. Looks like this whole thing was nothing but a waste of bandwidth.

Sweet. Got the key at 2:59pm according to my radio-wave clock. Downloaded and played. The game is shhweeeeet!

Don't expect to jump in and use your DoW 1 tactics though as it doesn't work. It feels like you're meant to think a lot more about cover, and a lot more about capturing (and re-capturing, and re-capturing) strategic points.

Tyranids are cool.

Had 1 crash, 1 game that didn't load properly (although all the players were in and could talk to each other), but 5 good ones. My only main issue is that it didn't save the results of my last two games (where I won!), so my record still shows 1 win/2 loss as opposed to 3 win/2 loss. Not sure why either?

ok - currently on my second install after reading many a 'games for windows' thread.. yawn. Last time I ended up with both Steam & DOW2 desktop icons being totally dead... reading all the comments about how good the game is obviously helps to ease my frustration aaarrrrghhh!!
