Darksiders arrives with the new year

Just days into 2010.

THQ aims to kickstart the new year by releasing Darksiders: Wrath of War on 8th January 2010.

Darksiders, a steroid-pumped interpretation of the Apocalypse, follows Horseman War as he romps around smacking the Christ out of everything.

Vigil Games is behind the wheel and, despite the obvious similarities to God of War, has dreamed up noteworthy features, including your horse Ruin, primarily. Ruin can be summoned and dismissed in an instant, making for some interesting set-pieces.

Find out much more about the actually very promising Darksiders in our detailed hands-on preview.

Darksiders: Wrath of War is in development for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Well, let the hacking and slashing commence then, cause 2010 is crammed with it.

Looks good, hope it will be.

Dante's Inferno seems to have a lot more going for it, than this. I hope this won't feel as if it's behind the times, after the delays it has experienced.

Dante does look pretty good, but this has a Zelda/Metroid structure apparntly. Quite different I guess.

    Dont forget Bayonetta.

Dantes Inferno if anything looks more action orientated and in direct competition with God Of War. This has held my interest for a long long time mostly due to Joe Mad's influence as design director but secondly because of the structure and approach which is in that Zelda/Metroid mould. Add to that Mark Hammill doing voice work (we know how good he was in Arkham Asylum) and they may have a great little package to start the gaming year with.

A game based on that crazy wifeswap loon?

I'm really interested in this one, hope they don't hold back on Zelda style gameplay and exploration..

Zelda/Metroid structure? Is there any media out showing more of that aspect of the game?
  • Quint2020 #9 2 years ago

I wish people would stop comparing this to games like God of War, the Developer has said many times it's got more in common with games like Soul Reaver and Castlevania just with the addition of a deep hack and slash combat system.

One of my most anticipated games of the next few months tbh.

I can't wait for this title. Hopefully it will be a good alternative to Zelda/Metroid and carry a PEGI rating instead of a BBFC rating.

With this out of the way hopefully we'll see more 40K info

@quint: not helped by the "gameplay" explanation section of the official site apparently not coming online, until tomorrow; but I think that "the developers", then need to bear some responsibility for the misrepresentation of their game, and the confusion that surrounds it. At least, for failing to address, and provide media to illustrate the game, as it actually is.

All that's widely been seen of this, is War, a hulking character that wields oversized weaponry and slices down angels, and his horse used for traversing the gameworld, the name of which escapes me. Kratos rides pegasi, and wields hefty, nay oversized weaponry, although he takes on mythical beings.

Granted, they mention "missions", once, [link url=http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/818226/vi rgil-games-project/videos/darksiders_doc3_070208.html;jsessi onid=aljogg2f5eur0
    ]http://uk .xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/81...[/link]
(there, in the gameplay design video) but, what does that gameplay provide stronger comparison towards, and the developers comments lead towards the same conclusion?
It feels as if, even as I try to understand what's being presented in Darksiders: Wrath of War, there's no attempt by the makers to even meet me half way. Maybe marketing is to blame, at THQ, as they try to grasp for the GoW bandwagon.

In any event, I agree with your idea, in as much as I'd prefer not to se Darksiders presented as being in another game's shadow.

Dantes Inferno and God Of War 3 are must buys for me but I can't make my mind up about this one.

The story trailer released a few months ago (the one showing the bosses) made it look very atmospheric but all the gameplay I've seen has been pretty bad i.e enemies not reacting to being hit, objects being thrown right through enemies with no damage/reaction etc. Might just of been early footage though.

I'll probably wait for reviews and hopefully a demo.

Im probably in the middle of Assasins Creed 2 and still playing MW2 and L4D2 when this hits so it must have very good reviews for me to consider it.

Did anyone else missread this as Darkstalkers and get very excited?

Also @Hexagon why on earth do you care about which rating body rates the game?
  • Hexagon #16 2 years ago

    @ RexRunti

PEGI ratings just look way better than BBFC ratings! One has to care about the box the game comes in as well, right? :-P
