Dark Messiah for 360 News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

23 May, 2007

Ubisoft has revealed at its event in Paris that Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Elements is an Xbox 360 title.

It will be a port of the game that appeared on PC last year, but with new and additional content.

Elements will be shown to press throughout today, so expect Tom's impressions as soon as he can barge his way in.

A logo for the game appeared on the "Ubidays" brochure yesterday, leading press to speculate whether it was an expansion or a console version of the game.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is a first-person fantasy action game from Arkane Studios. It was built on Valve's Source engine and makes clever use of physics: allowing you to freeze the ground to make your enemies go arse-over-elbow, for instance.

Head over to our Dark Messiah review to see why it was just what the fantasy market needed.

Excellent. I had this on PC but I kinda "felt" it was more suited to the 360. One to get for sure.

I was always looking at this title as being likely for a console port.

Though it didn't turn out to be as fantastic as the early videos seemed to promise it reviewed solidly.

See this is why I just can't be bothered to get a proper PC, all the top-end games end up on consoles eventually.

Wait a minute, that's my argument for not buying the 360, don't just turn it around! ;)

DMOM&M is great - yeah, the story is a bit lame, but it's a ton of fun, with some great level design and attention to detail.

I thought it was a horribly stupid game with probably the worst level design I've ever seen in a game. Everywhere you went you had these really obvious spike traps, fires, shelves with barrels on them.. and just by coincidence, the orcs loved to hang around next to them so you could kick them into these death traps.. over and over and over.. Oh, and if there was a cliff nearby, there was ALWAYS an orc standing on the edge of the cliff with his back turned. I think I used my sword like.. three times in the entire game. Kick, kick, kick!!

"Suspension of disbelief" is not a dirty word you know. So long as its fun, I don't care where the orcs stand.

You could have, you know, just not kicked them, and enjoyed the brilliant sword-fighting? Besides, I don't know which difficulty level you played on, but there are enough fights with multiple orcs where you're running out of stamina pretty quickly if you try kicking them all the time.

Could the kicking be exploited a bit too much? Yes, probably. Does this break the game in any way, unless you yourself decided to exploit it? No.

Wow! This is great. Gaming is so much better on consoles because of the set system specs. I hate PC upgrading.

Oh well, the console chaps can have a go on it, enjoy it, then Ubi will commission an expansion for the PC on the back of the increased interest :)

crevis is a dirty word

But it means 'crawfish'. What's dirty about miniature lobsters?
