Dante's Dark Forest DLC for 360 too

Will be a prequel to the main game.

EA's clarified that the Dark Forest DLC for Dante's Inferno will be available to Xbox 360 owners, too.

However, the Divine Edition of the game on PS3 will be the only place to get the added content for free, according to VG247.

Dark Forest, a prequel to the main adventure, follows Dante as he stumbles, lost, around a dark forest.

The Divine Edition of Dante's Inferno is exclusive to PS3 and contains the game, DLC, digital art book, soundtrack and full digital Longfellow translation of Dante Alighieri's Inferno.

Dante's Inferno will be release on PS3 and Xbox 360 on 5th February. Look out for our review soon.

    I hate this fashion of creating DLC before the game is even released and charging for it on the first day... :(

    If it should be on the game (and could be on the game) why the hell charge even more for something like this?! :(
  • SAMagic #2 2 years ago

    @Dragul
    Because they can.

    Though I find the idea of a prequel boring (Unless it REALLY adds something to the story), I suppose setting it beforehand at least lets them not worry about consistency after the end of the plot.
  • muscleblade #3 2 years ago

    They shouldnt even mention DLC until the game is released imo.
  • muscleblade #4 2 years ago

    I also hope this game turs out to be shit as i really dont have time for it with all the must have games right now. Im afraid it will turn out to be very good as the demo showed promise and its from the developers behind Dead Space.

    Is the Divine version being released in the UK? Haven't seen it mentioned in stores or online, but Game are doing something similar with a special 'Death Edition', which has extras but no mention of free DLC.
  • LR100 #6 2 years ago

    GAME are doing a 'Death' version instead of a 'Divine' Edition, from the looks of it there is no mention of this DLC included in either the Xbox or Ps3 versions, maybe they haven't updated it yet or we're just not getting it at all. Maybe they're still striking an exclusivity deal for the UK, who knows?

    So he stumbles around a dark forest, does he?

    Sounds great!
  • darleysam #8 2 years ago

    Seems strange to be supporting the PS3 in this fashion, when that's the platform with the biggest competitor to it. You'd think they'd do better to boost interest in the 360 version, since that's the one lacking in this kind of game.
  • bad09 #9 2 years ago

    Is it me or is it a case nowadays of "Hey we got this DLC coming it's great! Oh and by the way you need to buy this little game thing we have coming out to play it"?
  • MaFlippinHeadHurts #10 2 years ago

    Loved the demo to this, really impressed
  • Monkey_Puncher #11 2 years ago

    Hey EA, go fuck yourselves 'kay?

    Sick of this exclusive pre-order and special edition content trend. If you think I'm going to pay for something that comes free on a PS3 edition of the game, think again.

    Is he stumbling around a forest looking for somewhere to have a poop?
  • M_of_the_sys #12 2 years ago

    @darleysam

    Perhaps they're trying to get people to choose this over GOWIII?
  • TeaFiend #13 2 years ago

    Sounds simply thrilling.
  • M_of_the_sys #14 2 years ago

    @teh9182

    Just saying that someone who owns a PS3 is more likely to get GOWIII than Dante's Inferno. Personally, I'm not sure which of the two to get.

    I see your point though and have no idea why they've done this. I guess we can only speculate.

    @ Dragul: "If it should be on the game (and could be on the game) why the hell charge even more for something like this?! :( "

    Most DLC is created during the many many months that Sony and Microsoft ponder whether they want to let the game be released on their hallowed machines, so in answer to your first point, the DLC could not have been on the game (it would have be start the whole many month long submission process again if they did that).

    Why charge for it? Because in a market where a singleplayer orineted game may be sold second hand seven or eight times and the publisher only gets paid for the boxed game once, selling DLC from day one of release is one of the most persuasive business models. There are other models (such as free DLC to attempt to prevent the game being resold into the second hand market) but this is the least risky and so most appealing.

    (Edited for a typo.)

    The forest stumbling comes from the start of the poem, though its only a couple stanzas so would seem to make more sense as a tutorial than DLC you have to pay for…
  • Lexx87 #17 2 years ago

    So why is it a PS3 exclusive limited edition?
  • Gearskin #18 2 years ago

    So... I guess... this takes place before the CGI cutscene in the demo? Hope it's a proper level with bosses and stuff. Because he does at least meet a couple of things in the poem before reaching hell. A wolf? A lion? Both? I can't remember.

    I hope this game has some arena modes too.
  • andywilkie35 #19 2 years ago

    @Gearskin

    From watching the developer diaries - Most of the 8th circle - Fraud - is an arena

    I need to fit this game in somehow with Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2, really looking forward to it, great source material IMO
  • Gearskin #20 2 years ago

    Good stuff - ripped right from the achievements list.

    Gates of Hell 60
    Defeat all enemy waves in the Gates of Hell Arena

    Nice Nice.

    Could you imagine if Dante had tried to release Cantos 2-34 then sell Canto 1 as an extra back in the day?
  • Jazzy_Geoff #22 2 years ago

    so the free PS3 DLC is only for US types then? Despite the fact that their special edition is, in fact, the normal edition with no extra charge and ours is available only through GAME who are, of course, charging a premium for it. So pay more, get less. Brilliant.
  • sarcasmoidosis #23 2 years ago

    Maybe they didn't have room on the 360 DVD? I kid, of course.

    I'll probably piss some people off, but Dante felt like a poor man's God of War. Shoddy camera, no AA(on the 360) and a too powerful transition from the average looking game to the truly beautiful CGI.
  • AphoticCosmos #24 2 years ago

    Huzzah for Genric Action Game #532910!
  • IronGiant #25 2 years ago

    That well respected gaming mag Total Film (sarcasm mode in full effect) gave Dantes Inferno 3/5 basically saying it was ok but overshadowed by other games it's trying to copy. Though they did give Bayonetta 5/5 so they're not totally clueless!!
  • monkeywithnoeyes #26 2 years ago

    how can this possibly pay off for EA? the majority on ps3 owners that are into this type of game will be waiting an extra few weeks for God of war 3. EA's best platform for the majority of Dante's sales was always going to be the 360..so instead of rewarding them for their future support they'll alienate them by showing such a double standerd in their offerings?

    I understand that they're desperate to collect the sales on the ps3 before GOW3 hits.. but giving extra content for free to one version, yet setting additional charges for that content to the 360 version is not going to be a huge help for them, and will more than likely , i hope, result in less 360 owners wanting to hand EA their money.
  • penhalion #27 2 years ago

    Ok am I being silly here or doesn't the divine edition cost more than the standard edition. So clue me in here. How is the content free if the version that contains it costs more simply because it contains it?!?

  • Quixz #28 2 years ago

    I don't think this game will do well at all.. I know for sure this one is not for me.
  • muscleblade #29 2 years ago

    "I need to fit this game in somehow with Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2"

    I rather buy this than Bioshock 2 from what i know so far. Waiting for reviews though. Very excited.

    ME2 is a "must" of course.
  • Jazzy_Geoff #30 2 years ago

    @penhalion

    the divine edition is the standard ps3 edition in the US and not available on 360 or in other territories. The UK special edition, the "Death" edition, costs more than the bog standard edition nut is available on both consoles. However, it doesn't seem to contain this DLC. Which seems unfair.
  • theoddshadow #31 2 years ago

    @Paulie_P

    Lol, I think people would have been less enticed to do so in the 13th century (:

    Anyway, considering that this will have very little source material, the most interesting set-piece should be him falling down a hill. Oh, wait, that's just before he meets Virgil.... ok.... so nothing will happen story-wise in the DLC. Epic fail EA, and stop offering mega-ultra-for-rich-idiots-packs for every game - no-one likes you, and your going back to being a hated industry publisher if you carry on like this :(
