Dante's Dark Forest DLC for 360 too
Will be a prequel to the main game.
EA's clarified that the Dark Forest DLC for Dante's Inferno will be available to Xbox 360 owners, too.
However, the Divine Edition of the game on PS3 will be the only place to get the added content for free, according to VG247.
Dark Forest, a prequel to the main adventure, follows Dante as he stumbles, lost, around a dark forest.
The Divine Edition of Dante's Inferno is exclusive to PS3 and contains the game, DLC, digital art book, soundtrack and full digital Longfellow translation of Dante Alighieri's Inferno.
Dante's Inferno will be release on PS3 and Xbox 360 on 5th February. Look out for our review soon.

If it should be on the game (and could be on the game) why the hell charge even more for something like this?!

Because they can.
Though I find the idea of a prequel boring (Unless it REALLY adds something to the story), I suppose setting it beforehand at least lets them not worry about consistency after the end of the plot.

Sick of this exclusive pre-order and special edition content trend. If you think I'm going to pay for something that comes free on a PS3 edition of the game, think again.

Perhaps they're trying to get people to choose this over GOWIII?

Just saying that someone who owns a PS3 is more likely to get GOWIII than Dante's Inferno. Personally, I'm not sure which of the two to get.
I see your point though and have no idea why they've done this. I guess we can only speculate.

Most DLC is created during the many many months that Sony and Microsoft ponder whether they want to let the game be released on their hallowed machines, so in answer to your first point, the DLC could not have been on the game (it would have be start the whole many month long submission process again if they did that).
Why charge for it? Because in a market where a singleplayer orineted game may be sold second hand seven or eight times and the publisher only gets paid for the boxed game once, selling DLC from day one of release is one of the most persuasive business models. There are other models (such as free DLC to attempt to prevent the game being resold into the second hand market) but this is the least risky and so most appealing.
(Edited for a typo.)

I hope this game has some arena modes too.

From watching the developer diaries - Most of the 8th circle - Fraud - is an arena
I need to fit this game in somehow with Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2, really looking forward to it, great source material IMO

I'll probably piss some people off, but Dante felt like a poor man's God of War. Shoddy camera, no AA(on the 360) and a too powerful transition from the average looking game to the truly beautiful CGI.

I understand that they're desperate to collect the sales on the ps3 before GOW3 hits.. but giving extra content for free to one version, yet setting additional charges for that content to the 360 version is not going to be a huge help for them, and will more than likely , i hope, result in less 360 owners wanting to hand EA their money.

I rather buy this than Bioshock 2 from what i know so far. Waiting for reviews though. Very excited.
ME2 is a "must" of course.

the divine edition is the standard ps3 edition in the US and not available on 360 or in other territories. The UK special edition, the "Death" edition, costs more than the bog standard edition nut is available on both consoles. However, it doesn't seem to contain this DLC. Which seems unfair.

Lol, I think people would have been less enticed to do so in the 13th century (:
Anyway, considering that this will have very little source material, the most interesting set-piece should be him falling down a hill. Oh, wait, that's just before he meets Virgil.... ok.... so nothing will happen story-wise in the DLC. Epic fail EA, and stop offering mega-ultra-for-rich-idiots-packs for every game - no-one likes you, and your going back to being a hated industry publisher if you carry on like this
