Daltrey stirs Rock Band Who talk

Not so bored now, Roger?

Roger Daltrey has suggested that his band The Who is to get a Rock Band special edition next year.

Asked about The Beatles: Rock Band by Massachusetts paper The Republican (thanks, Joystiq), the old hellraiser said, "The game, yeah, yeah, they're going to be doing a Who one next year. There is one planned."

He might just mean a track pack, of course, although if Harmonix is looking to repeat the archive-digging exercise with another reverential special edition, The Who seems like a likely candidate.

"[The idea] is fabulous. Anything that gets non-musical people interested in music is wonderful," Daltrey said, although we distinctly recall him saying something different last year. Then again, we also recall The Who playing the Rock Band party at E3 2008, albeit a bit less distinctly. It had been a long day, and we were tired and emotional.

"In my opinion, music is our last true great freedom. They can burn our books, they can burn our paintings, but they can't stop us singing and making music," Daltrey finished.

We're only interested if it's got the whole of Tommy on it.

Looking at the performance of Rock Band: Beatles, I'm not sure all these bands should be queuing up to jump on the bandwagon.

The Who would definitely make for a better Rock Band game, but their name grows into more of a genuine question with each generation.

Seeing first-hand the age range of people packing the Pyramid field when The Who headlined the last night of Glasto 2007, I'd have to counter that last statement of yours, youhavenomail.

If they do go down the full-blown Beatles route, though, I'd be hard-pushed not to bite.

I really expected better sales from RB:Beatles. I hold up my hands and say I was wrong. I thought it would positively fly off the shelves.

The Who probably would suit this sort of game better musically, but only just.

There's already plenty of Who material available on Rock Band, do we really need a whole game dedicated to them?

I think the expensive equipment didn't help TB:RB sales but the recent reduced prices on HMV seems to have done the trick since their out of stock on a good number of items.

Isn't this the Guitar Hero style band specific game spinoff route which Rock Band fans slagged off Guitar Hero for?

First rumours of RB: Queen, now this.

I dunno, the RB:Beatles kit is really a heck of a lot better value than the old RB package was, more expensive but vastly higher quality. For that matter isn't it outselling GH5 now?

It's a shame they lost a bunch of the masters for Who's Next. I picked up that album after the last Who pack and I really enjoy it. The Live at Leeds tracks sounded great but they destroyed my band, and I prefer it when they stick to studio stuff anyway. But either way, more of The Who would be excellent news.

Becuase they were done extremely poorly, just cynical cash ins, even containing songs not by the band on the cover to pad out the game.
Rockband Beatles was done the right way.

I would have to get this game if made the who kick ass and were/are the most technically gifted musicians ever.
The bass and drums will be insane good luck to anyone on expert level!

The Guitar Hero band games literally were re-hashes of GH engines past, right down to the menus interface, the only real diffrence was some new venues and a motion captured version of the band. The RB Spin Offs have a massive amount of effort and love put into the actual game. For a "cash-in", Lego Rock Band seems to have a huge amount of effort going into it and of course, The Beatles: Rock Band was the greatest virtual love letter of all time.

Will only take on this if it comes with Drums that explode when you finish the game however.
