Why not combine LOTRO and DDO subs then?

I'd give it a try for free and - if any good - probably buy a few items.

I picked up The Sims 3 last week and I've found myself looking at their microtransactions Store in a new light now I can see how it would work, ditto with Free Realms, so I think it could be a good moneyspinner for Turbine/Codemasters.

This could be great, DDO has always been a brilliant game, just one that was somewhat questionable as to whether there was really enough content to justify a monthly fee. It could do with a little revamping as the current model requires more grinding than is best for the game (but obviously works very well with a monthly fee) but this could potentially be the best free to play multiplayer RPG ever.

Paying just to access zones and dungeons sounds painful; it's difficult enough to find an instance team on WoW without factoring in that some people don't even have access. I don't know if DDO has a better system of dealing with that.

Free to play but not play the meat of the game is not free at all. I would much rather pay a fixed fee and get everything I am expecting to play the game.

@Eray - you can also 'earn' the Turbine points somehow via the game itself depending how it works and how much the unlocks cost potentally the game can be played without even spending a penny over time, the VIP and cashshop from that angle looks more like 'instant access'.

I'm pritty impress that Turbine have actally worked out a system where no pricing system overshadows the other in which the player 'wins' but at the same time allow the subbers/VIP players now feel like it's value for money. As someone just said DDO is pritty much underratted as a subcription based MMO but as a free to play MMO it could poptentally be one of the biggest out there.

/sigh

When the internet was new it kinda broke down international borders. These days it's all about location - another example is free to watch stuff.

Any DD 4e games in development? Preferably turn-based? Anybody heard anything?
