Lots of good stuff coming out on PSN lately. I finished Flower this weekend, then promptly went back and started playing it through again - definitely one of the most lovely gaming experiences I've had for years! It looks like I might be getting Cuboid too then.

What does that even mean?

Cuboid looks awesome. I wasn't sure, but I think I am convinced.

Good morning, caligari!

I played through this last week. It's a must buy for puzzle people, especially since these are so rare in the PSN. Took me 3 days to complete, which should tell something about its addicting qualities. And now some random whining:
- The block sometimes blocks (ha.) you from seeing the tile behind it and you can't rotate the camera.
- The time based rankings are useless, since everyone will get precisely the same time due to how the controls work.
- When you fall, everything resets except the move counter, which forces you to needlesly restart manually.
- No trophies for completing the expert levels, you get the same ones from basic.

Oh, and those who want to try it out, here's a free flash game with precisely the same mechanics:

If it's exactly the same game as Bloxorz with more levels, it's probably worth the price. One of my favorite puzzlers.

I bought this when it came out a few weeks ago and the reviewer summed it up perfectly. I'm not normally into puzzle games but I'm glad I purchased this one. Haven't done the Flos level yet though.

Might get this to make up for Noby Noby Boy. Thought I would give that a go on the strength of the last review. I still don't know what the fuck. Then usually at the end of god knows what I did to get to a point with a score board, it says cannot communicate with girl? Seems about right actually.

I thought I was weird when I first starting playing tetris and started dreaming of revolving pieces. I now look for that effect in all puzzle games. Hexic had it in spades....I might give this a shot.

@first paragraph of review

So... you're saying the devil steals Playstations and makes people in hell play them as punishment?

Been playing Cuboid for ages. It's ace. A very solid 8/10. I'm surprised it's taken EG so long to review such a brilliant game when there isn't that much on the market.

IIRC it's £6.99 or something. Which, to me, is just that bit too expensive. If it was a fiver I'd probably stretch to it but I've bought Flower, Noby Noby Boy and SFIV in the last couple of weeks and it's Killzone 2 on Friday, so I really don't have any money left in my gaming kitty.

On the internet, once Hitler it invoked it's the end of a discussion as the invocation is the warning sign that all reason is gone.

To start a review with the man, well..

Thanks Jon - a bit on the high side but still tempted. Some good games coming out at the mo, and with all the DLC games/add ons it certainly gives your wallet a kick in the nutts !!

The latest PSN reviews all sound very nice. A couple more and I might seriously reconsider getting a PS3.

I bought this, it's very good. I've just been doing a few levels a night and I find it quite relaxing and a good test of the old grey matter. After a while you do learn how to maneouvre your block around the place quite well but the game keeps introducing new complexities to keep things interesting. Can't see me going back to it much after completing it but I certainly feel it was worth the money. Recommended.

One question: Is this made by the people that came up with the original idea (which appeared in the flash game Bloxorz several years ago)? If not, that's ugly.

Oooh, I guess you should be quite angry too then at duke nukem 3D since that stole of doom etc etc etc etc.

I think all the basic ideas for videogames have been invented 20-30 years ago, not much has been added since then, only minor changes made to the concepts.

Bloxorz wasn't the original idea, I'm pretty sure I played something like that in the 8bit days (you know, C64, Amstrad & the rest).

I thoroughly recommend this and wouldn't even qualify that with "if you like puzzle games", just a straight up recommendation. I feel it's being overlooked because of recent PSN (Flower & Nobi Nobi Boy) and Retail (Street Fighter IV & Killzone 2) titles being uniformly awesome enough to overshadow it.

Brilliant. Will avoid EG at all cost from now on. :)

(ps. love to read anything you write about videogames, read through the entire reposted Driv3rgate fiasco on WoS, gave me an equal amount of chuckles and dread)

I like that it has the option to either sit down and nut it out, counting squares and planning a route until your cranium explodes, or just the button mash roll around until the solution appears, which is much more relaxing. Very like wandering blindly around Echchrome.

Mostly, I button mash, then go back to work out the short way to whatever the point was when the button mashing revealed the answer, so you get the best of both worlds.

Will be interesting whether DLC is paid for, when Echochrome doles it out gratis. I'm hoping for a Metal Gear/Cuboid crossover, where Snake has to roll a cardboard box across minefields to light up a Cathedral.

Nice solid game, good quick distraction. As good as Halo, definitely.
