My word this looks very, very promising

/weary experienced voice: well "looks" aren't enough for games...
  • Kami #3 6 years ago

Well, it's certainly very, VERY pretty.

Let's see how it ends up.

Looks good in the static screen shots. What power PC is required to run the game at this level.

    One that doesn't exist today.

I'll bet it won't be out for bloody ages anyway.

i noticed on the video some "pop-in" and tree resampling - anyone else spot that?

Don't forget it's also coming to the XBox360! :) Truely amazing video, although will the console version look this good? Hope so!

Crysis isn't coming to the 360. Well, maybe it'll be announced one day, but so far it's just a PC game.

Oh, Ok. Guess I got swept along with the media hype - no harm in dreaming though!
  • Collie #11 6 years ago

    They do jungles well.

Just as well the game isn't set in the Arctic wastes. Weary white screenshots wouldn't do much to wow us.
  • Talha #12 6 years ago

Remember Far Cry screens and videos? The game looked just as good - it is just that it doesn't run very well on hardware released even two years after its release on high resolutions, but you can see why.

I guess that will be the story of Crysis as well. I guess I'll have to postpone my wedding to prep up my PC for this.

    Hooray.

That sub surface rendering on the faces really seems to have cracked realistic looking skin and human features. No more shiny plastic looking people.

    Looks very very nice indeed.

Heres hoping they can attach a good game to this stuff.
  • UncleLou #14 6 years ago

    This is looking phenomenal.

I don't doubt they'll manage to make a good game. They know what the strengths of Far Cry were. Now of course it might be incredibly cheesy again, but as long as the AI is up to scratch... :)
  • hp_on_toast #15 6 years ago

    What shite... only joking :)

It's just a shame it's going to be PC only - I can't afford the kind of rig needed to run this :(
  • smelly #16 6 years ago

Well they've allegidly stated that a ps3 wont be powerful enough to run this. So my guess some sort of monster pc upgrade would be needed.

    I think i'll pass :-)

While the environments look unbelievable, the character models, from a distance, look a LOT more crappy than what the face closeups seem to promise.

They spend all that time rendering every pore on the face, yet the whole human figure still looks like a stiff plastic action figure. :\
  • jack_klugman #18 6 years ago

Psh! My garden at home looks more real than this. On... on account of being real I guess. Hmm...
  • Lukus #19 6 years ago

You know what?- This game looks too realistic. There's no character in it. In 10 years time people will look back at its visual style as boring, whereas something like Halo or Stranger's Wrath, games with character, will still look cool.

God damn graphics demonstration dressed up as a game!

Rubbish. People said that about Far Cry before it was released, but what we got was an excellent FPS with huge, open levels and an in many situtations amazing AI.

/weary experienced voice: well "looks" aren't enough for games...

Tell that to the millions of people who will be upgrading their consoles this year for just that....
  • stoopidgreg #23 6 years ago

crysis will rock, no doubt, it's not just a pretty engine.

but the recommended specs for playing it in full glory-vision are astronomical...
  • Carrybagma #24 6 years ago

    What is the recommended spec?

I didn't think EA had published it yet.

Will be interesting to compare the performance of Dx9 on XP to Dx9 on Vista and Dx10 on Vista (with a Dx10 card). I wonder if the alleged better performance of Vista for games will make any difference.

I don't doubt it will demand a good PC, but Far Cry wasn't quite as hardware-hungry as people thought it would be beforehand. And with CPU-prices as low as hardly ever before at the moment, the one weak link will be the GPU.
