Crysis 2 in autumn, MP beta planned

Multiformat shooter sets its sights.

EA has said that Crysis 2 will be released this autumn and will be preceded by the unceasingly popular multiplayer beta.

The autumn target was specified in an advert in trade mag MCV, EA having previously said to expect it in calendar-Q4. October or November, then, presumably.

As for the beta, there are no exact details on it, but fans of Crytek's output who sign up to today's relaunched MyCrysis service (thanks VG247) will be in with a shout, according to the developer.

Crysis 2 is due out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

    Shooter of the year!

    Why do all shooters have Betas these days? I remember when COD4 had a beta and since then every one is doing them. I'm pretty sure they're mostly just marketing tools - exclusive demos basically. As most don't really change at all between the beta and final release version.

    The gameplay footage was ok. Nothing stunning on the gameplay front TBH. The multi-level fighting looked interesting but the AI was still extremely bad. I hope they focus a bit more on that so they might have a chance against the much bigger shooters end of the year.

    Why would you complain abut a beta? Its a chance to try out the game, and should hopefully iron out net-code niggles etc.

    I didn't even play the multiplayer on Crysis or Warhead. Single player is where all the fun resides.

    @Cheddar99
    It's not so much the demo/beta, it's the processes involved ; "buy this to gain access to are exclusive demo" , "sign up with our site so we can spam you whilst you play our demo"

    etc.

    @LHH: Bad Company 2 betas were used extensively to balance and patch the final version of the game.

    @Eraysor: I spent over 130 hours in Crysis + Warhead, but over 320 in Crysis Wars multiplayer, and IMO the mp is more fun than the campaign.

    @LHH I get that (refused to buy ODST to try the Reach beta), but a lot of beta's, like bad company 2, are free, and just a good way of ensuring a smooth launch and better quality product. Seems a bit churlish to complain.
