Costume DLC for SFIV at launch
Five outfits per three-quid pack.
Capcom plans to release extra costume packs for Street Fighter IV in Japan, starting on launch day (Friday 12th February) and continuing every subsequent Friday for the next four weeks.
That's according to the latest issue of Famitsu (spotted by 1UP), which says each bundle will cost 320 Microsoft Points (GBP 2.70 / EUR 3.85) on Xbox 360, or JPY 400 (GBP 3 / EUR 3.50) on PlayStation 3.
The first pack to arrive will be Muscle Arms containing alternate threads for big and beefy characters Zangief, E. Honda, Rufus, Abel and El Fuerte.
The Beauty bundle will follow, adding attire for pretty punchers Chun Li, C. Viper, Sakura, Rose and Cammy.
Then we'll see the Shoryuken pack, which has new outfits for fireball-wielders Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Gouken and Dan.
Baddies come next, as the Shodaloo pack gives Vega, Sagat, Balrog, Bison and Seth something to change into.
And, last but not least, there's the Classic collection: called so presumably because Capcom ran out of themes. This features extra wear for Guile, Blanka, Dhalsim, Gen and Fei Long.
At the end of April, both sets of owners will be able to download all the extra costumes for a lump sum of 1000 MSP (GBP 8.50 / EUR 12.00) / JPY 1200 (GBP 9.30 / EUR 10.50).
Capcom Europe will make DLC announcements shortly, a spokesperson for the publisher told Eurogamer.
Street Fighter IV launches for Xbox 360 and PS3 here on 20th February.

And I believe PS3 DLC is region locked to the game version, isn't it? So no shopping in the US PSN store this time if SCEE do manage to screw things up once again.

Stop yer moaning*, It's not on the scale of Yoda/Darth Vader on SC4 - Capcom have stated they won't make any gameplay features like characters or moves DLC.
And the only unlockables that came close to this in previous Capcom outings were different colour costumes, not brand new costumes altogether - which takes (and costs) considerably more time than a simple bit of palette swap code.
(* If it turns out that this is all on the disc, and not actually downloaded, I'll join the moaning).

yes, because Capcom realizes that something that stupid would seriously hurt their sales. And in all honesty, asking me to shell out 1000 points for extra costumes (which ought to be included in a full price GBP40/EUR60 game) is such a stupid move that I'm considering to not buy the game at all until it hits the bargain bin.

Incorrect.
But yes, they are expensive.

No, this is why people hate DLC announced before a game hits and only features content negligible. I don't say I hate pancakes because I ate a bad one once.
I also remember a time when I used to have 256 colors on screen at once and I had to wiggle my joystick like crazy to get my Olympic athlete across the finish line. Ooh the excitement, those were the better days indeed! (sarcasm off)

Now this doesn't mean that you can't complain that the costumes are expensive (they are in my opinion) or unnecessary (probably) but Capcom are under no obligation to include them in the cost of the game based on when they were completed.
Also, in some ways I'd say this is ideal DLC fodder. It's unecessary to enjoy the game, no-one who doesn't buy it is missing out but serious fans can enjoy it to the benefit of Capcom's revenues.

It's not normal to transmit cosmetic differences in net code. Like in Quake days where you could opt to turn off downloading other player's skins, and Quake 1/2/3 would just substitute their skin with the default skin/model.

@ranger101
You don't mind and that's great and all but is it OK with you if we have our own opinions on this kind of thing?

No, that's true, however it is quite usual to download content before a game begins (if DLC adds weapons or maps for example you'll have to DL them before you can play). They could do it the way you suggest and use the default skin but that further defeats the point of paying for this kind of thing. It might just work out as a series of minor updates as they add each pack or they could already be on the disc; DLC like this is planned months in advance.

I would of thought if only 1 person has the costume then the other just sees the default outfit and not DLC? At least I would of thought...

Why? If playing online you wouldn't really be able to see what the other person sees. I would play dress up just for myself. Not to flaunt my expensive costumes across the world.

I don't know why I'm even whining, I'm not buying the game anyway. I should fuck off.

Unlockables like this are supposed to be incentives for solo players to keep playing. I realise that you don't have to download these things but this trend in DLC is what puts me off next-gen games.
Yeah I sound like a grumpy git but this is just my opinion
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Yeah I agree, i'm really looking forward to playing SFIV, but there's no chance i'm gonna pay for costumes. Would be interesting to see how many people actually pay for them but sales figures for DLC are not normally released.
Edit and if they are actually included on the disk and the DLC is just an unlock file, well then that would take the piss even more but I spose thats the way its going these days, what with the "time is money" pack in skate 2. Absolute joke.

Oh wait SC4 already did that.........................

I kinda think we should support Capcom during this economic recession. They just posted a very disappointing result for 2008, I believe, and I would be very, very sad to see them go. Or turn to the dark side like Sega. *shudders*

Did Capcom release any big games in 2008? All I can think of is DMC4.

Championship Mode. Available as a download on day one of release, this allows you to set up online tournaments within the game itself and is a great idea, given how popular the mode has proved in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

I seriously doubt that game made Capcom so much money it could carry an entire fiscal year. Which what my question was supposed to imply. You can't make money when you havne't got anything to sell. And DLC are still not huge sellers compared to a million copy's of DMC4 (just an example).
This year they have Dark Void, BC, Resi 5, SF4. see how that adds up to last ones.
