Conan topples GTA IV in Europe

German and Swedish charts hail new king.

More good sales news for the newborn MMO Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures - and this time it's not from a Funcom press release.

The latest German and Swedish games charts report that the bloodthirsty massively multiplayer fantasy RPG has toppled none other than Grand Theft Auto IV from the top spot in both countries.

This follows news that Age of Conan placed second behind GTA IV - and ahead of Haze - in the UK charts, making it the biggest PC game launch of the year to date in Britain.

Funcom has recently reported that a million signed up for the Conan beta, early access sold out, the game broke pre-order records, and 400,000 players signed up in the first week.

It now seems safe to suggest that Age of Conan is the most successful MMO launch since World of Warcraft. Check out our launch week verdict for more on the game, and expect a full review in the coming weeks.

I would still like a free downloadable trial before parting with any cash please.

I did not here good things about AOC from any of my online buddies.

Velios: they porobaly played the beta, then. Seems the finished product is quite different from the beta.
I'm thinking about maybe picking it up in the fall. No way I am spending this summer in front of a computer unless I can avoid it.

Conan is a fun, refreshing change if you've spent a lot of time with WoW or other MMO's. But like most MMO's at launch, it's bugged as hell. It's system requirements are a joke as well, unless you have a top notch machine with everything as up-to-date as it possibly can be then you are going to encounter a problem some where down the line.

Let's just hope it improves with age.

I really can't see all the bother over this game - subscription based MMOs take the piss imho!

AoC: what happens when you don't think through your PvP stance (or learn the lessons of every MMO since Ultima Online)

"We're not saying ganking is wrong. We're asking you to stop doing it in a group as a guild"

The first time I read the title I thought it was "Conan top less ..." :p

But anyway, I pre-ordered the game, bought the EA, played it but never registered.

    The game sucks.

I might come back in 1 year time.

well im really enjoying AoC atm. I might only be a lowely lvl 29 but the game so far has been the most fun i've had with an mmo since wow was launched over 3 years ago now..

And ive tried alot in that time. Good for Funcom :)

Was very worried about the 32 gig install but so far the game has been a good performer.

The combat takes a of getting used to, but it is very satisfying when you start practicing it. Have high hopes :)

32 Gigs? 32.32 GIGA BYTES! GREAT SCoTT!

What the hell is taking up that insane amount of space?

I remember when BG2's install was OVER A GIGABYTE. I was mortally shocked. Now, as a zombie, I laugh at the olden days.

the game plays and runs great for most of us.
its only been out for a week or so, we all must remember how unplayable many aspects of wow were when it was released.
many features taken for granted didnt ship with the game - I point towards:
    - 1 auction house per faction (if you rolled nightelf you had to trek to ironforge :/ )
    - no battle grounds, leaving pve players with limited pvp options
    - no arena (personally think that was a good thing lol)
    - server queues in excess of 20-30min
    - horrible lag in population centres like Ironforge
    - limited end game (launched with Onyxia and scholo / UBRS as endgame - i think).
    - class imbalance -> i point to the now infamous 'world of Roguecraft' videos etc.

just point this stuff out so the game can get kudos for what the've done right and a bit of patience and time to sort out the stuff that needs TLC.
my honest advice to anyone sitting on the fence right now is to wait a month or two and grab a buddy key or trail then, and judge for yourself.
