Company of Heroes sequel?

GFW editor spills beans.

Relic are working on a follow-up to the excellent World War II strategy game Company of Heroes, according to Games for Windows editor Jeff Green, who says the May edition of his magazine contains exclusive information about it.

"It's one of those 'exclusive' stories; this time about the follow-up to Relic's awesome Company of Heroes," Green confessed in his 1UP blog. "Guess what? We get to kill more Nazis again!! Yay! Them shitz never gets old, knowhumsayin?"

"I wish I could be hiding in the bushes by every one of your homes at the moment you see the issue sitting there, just so I could see that look of excitement and anticipation on your faces!"

Unfortunately THQ was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.

We thought Company of Heroes breathed new life into a stale genre and setting when we reviewed it last year, awarding it the highest mark possible. Head over elsewhere on Eurogamer to find out why.

    Fantastic news!
Also dear Relic, please update the Warhammer 40k franchise with the improvements you made in CoH. Would love to see a proper sequel to Dawn of War.

Struck me the CoH main menu always lent itself to having new campaigns listed in there.

Yah, Maldoror, DoW would definitely benefit from the more.... solid feel of CoH.

Not set in the Pacific, then? ;)

Aaaargh, no, please not another 40k game. Believe me, for someone who's never been into the 40k universe, it beats WWII in staleness hands down. Dawn of War was a good game, but I just didn't care about anything or anyone. Generic space marines and orcs, combining the worst clichés out of fantasy and sci-fi in one package.

As for the poor sales - I am not sure that's true. It was top of the PC charts in several countries for weeks or even months, and THQ called it an "outstanding success". I imagine it didn't sell well in the UK - you guys bought Saint's Row instead, I heard. :p

According to this thread on the Q23 boards (plenty of developers/writers post there, usually pretty reliable) CoH has had pretty disappointing sales so far.

Good news, though I'm surprised if it's a full-blown sequel. I would've thought it'd be an expansion pack or the like, given that the Campaign section has a drop-down menu listing "Invasion of Normandy" as the default.

Also, Jeff Green appears to be the most embarassing man in the world.

Either that or go and buy some taste like.

Seems odd. They really don't need a sequel, just a mission pack. They're going to be one of the first DX10 games on the market, so they hardly need a new engine...

They should do a wicked Pacific campaign for this, and update DoW with the new mechanics and graphics from CoH. They always said they're waiting for a new engine before adding in Tyranids. They can call it 'Midday of Conflict', or something.

Russia v Germany would be better than America v Japan.

In my oh so humble opinion.

Which means nothing, cos they'll do America anyway.
