Company of Heroes now DX10

Patch Adams.

One of those THQ types has stealthily infiltrated our forum to tell you that Company of Heroes now has DirectX 10 support.

Mysteriously disguised as "MisterTHQ", the phantom suggested you should head over to the official website to get hold of the patch.

Once installed you should see - if you've got one of those expensive graphics cards - improved model and map details, as well as an increase in lighting, shadows and overall image quality.

Company of Heroes is a real time strategy game so good that we awarded it the highest mark possible. Yes, it takes place in World War II, but it will far surpass your expectations.

THQ also recently announced that a new expansion pack called Opposing Fronts would be added to the game this autumn. It lets you take up arms as the German Panzer Elite or British 2nd army and fight through some of history's most famous moments.

Pop over to the official website for more information.

From what I gather it's a bit of a pointless exercise, the comparisons with the DX9 game really don't draw many improvements.
Best to wait for a game built that's been for DX10 before getting excited.

Microsoft help advertise any game which signs up for the "Games for Windows" label, the Games for Windows label requires that the game works on both vista and xp out of the box, and they get an extra incentive if they don x64-bit support.

It's basically paying the publisher to put pressure on the developers to include better Vista support, to make Vista more appealing to gamers.

update: given it a try, it's a pretty decent update - adds some nicer shading and post processing effects but some might argue it makes the game a bit harder to play with blooms shooting everywhere. Frame rate when using dx10 seems to have jumped a good 5-10fps a second. got an average of 60fps on the little tech demo with max settings on a 8800gtx sli setup. So it looks a bit better, and runs a bit smoother - whats not to like :)

But you need a Vista for DX10, right? And Vista is currently quite buggy, correct? So...

    patch adams?

    right.

spongebob - vista isn't really that buggy at all, just has a couple of strange design decisions which are probably going to be fixed up in the first service pack. Haven't had a single blue-screen or hard-crash other wise.

I can second Pirotic on that. Not a single blue screen or freezing. Yes, some of the hardware is not properly supported such as printers or sound cards. I have been running games installed in XP by double-clicking on their exe's in Vista - they run perfectly.

I third that, Vista is very stable, hasn't caused me any significant problems so far.
